At that moment, if I had to the choice to rip my eyes out, I would have chosen to do so. Because if this was any closer to reality, I might as well be living a lie.
"Billy?" I asked, shaken to the bone.
"Billy?," Louis asked, disgust in his voice.
"Billy." Liam stated, finally getting the fact.
"Billy." Zayn echoed.
Niall held his hands up."Wait. Who the hell-"
"Is he?" Harry completed his question.
No one dared to answer. All eyes were on me.
I walked up and made my way to where Billy was standing, his eyes never looking away from the ground. "Why Billy? How could you?" My heart started to ache.
Billy spoke,"Ma'am, there is no excuse. It was all my fault. I just didn't know-"
I couldn't take it. "I wanna know everything, Billy. Now."
"It was about 12:45 at night. You had told me that you will be gone to Miss Megan's party. And I know how Miss Megan's friends are- all wild and dangerous. So when you didn't return by midnight, I knew that I had to go looking for you. I took out my car and drove to the bar where the party was. But on my way, I saw my son Charlie, walking by the pavement. So, I picked him up and together we headed to the party." He paused, as if finally realizing his fault. "When we were at the parking lot, I saw a young blonde man grabbing you by the hand and dragging you with him to his car." I realized. Freddie.
Billy's face hardened. "That man taking advantage of you, and I hated to see you like that! So, I ran my car over him. He luckily escaped, but he had dropped you on the floor. Charlie ran out and started hitting the guy, while I went out of the car to pick you up. You were completely drunk, not even sure about your whereabouts. I brushed off the dirt from your dress, took out your car keys from your purse, and was on my way to seat you up when Charlie told me that he wanted to drive you home, while I rode in my car. I was okay with the plan, so I let him drive you home in your car." From the corner of his eyes, I saw a teardrop hit the fabric of his shirt.
"I lost him on my way home. I tried his phone, but it was all in vain. It was only about an hour when he finally arrived. I helped you up from the front seat, when I clearly remembered putting you in the back seat. Later, when I asked him what took so long, he said he had some things to do. But today, when I saw the blonde man from the bar here, I knew something was up. Only if I knew…" his voice trailed off as he started to sob.
So there it was. Charlie. Who would have guessed…
I knew him from before. I had met him about a couple of times, and I also knew that Charlie didn't have a stable set of mind. He was a little crazy, but never did I know that he could do this. Never…
Louis inquired, "It's okay Billy… Just tell me, where is Charlie now?"
Billy sighed. "He is in jail, sir. He shot his mother, Audrey."
Behind me, I heard Liam curse, "Holy mother!"
I grabbed Billy's shirt, "When did this happen? Billy, why didn't you tell me about it? WHY?"
He apologized, "I didn't want to cause more trouble than I had already… I'm sorry ma'am. I just don't know what to-"
Louis held me back, "It's okay, Billy. But when this happen?"
"About a month back. I kept pushing Audrey to ask him about that night. And she did. Every day she would ask him. That's when he lost his cool, shot her and fled. It was at night when I got home from work, and found her lying down, her blood all over her polished floor." He shut his eyes. "I thought it was because he lost control, but today, I realized there is so much more to it. Either way, it's all my fault. All of it!"
Zayn stood up and hugged Billy, "Cheer up mate. It's not your fault. It's not.."
Both men parted. Billy walked up to Louis, took his hands in his and begged, "I'm so sorry for all that has happened. I wish I could do something so make it all better. And most importantly, I just want you to know that Miss Natalie here is wonderful lady, and she is so lucky to have such a honorable man like you by her side. I hope you are able to look past all of this, and cherish this love forever, sir." Billy's eyes shone like stars.
Louis smiled. "I will, Billy. I will." He hugged him.
I smiled through my tears, but I had something more to do. "Now, Billy, you won't go back to that house. From now on, you are going to stay here with us. And I'm gonna need some experienced help with this." I pointed to my humongous bump. Billy laughed.
"Always at your service ma'am." Billy smiled, and I swear that smile was a million-dollar one. I swear.
