In my car, I called up Megan.
"Meg, I need to know if you called Freddie in your promotion party."
"Freddie as in Amanda's brother?"
"Of course not. Why would I invite a mental patient to my awesome party?" She breathed deeply. "But.."
I was losing my patience. "But what?"
"Some of my friends did say they saw him in the bar. It's possible since he was scheduled to come out of the mental asylum this year. But Nat, they might have been lying-"
I shook my head. This can't be happening.
I told her, "I have to go."
By the time I reached home, I was already in tears. All the boys were playing soccer in my enormous lawn. As soon as I walked in, Louis turned to look at me and ran to me. He put his arms around me and asked, "What happened?"
"Freddie.." That was all that came out of me.
"You met him?" He searched my face and my hands for any scars or bruises. "Did he do something to you?"
I could feel his muscles grow tight. "No.."
Beside him, the guys joined in, looking all uptight and defensive. Louis insisted, "Then, what is it?"
I carefully took his hands, and placed them on my belly.
I looked up to him and uttered,"He's the one, Louis. He's the one."
"I remember now. He was there. In Megan's party. I spotted him near the bar. Then I recalled that he had only recently come out of the mental asylum. He looked sober and harmless. Since, he once used to be my friend, I went to greet him. Just a simple hello." I wiped my eyes. "Then, we both talked a lot. He told me about these anti-depressant pills he got from the asylum and he put a few in my drink. After that, I couldn't even try to open my eyes. I simply went numb."
Surrounding me, all the boys were sitting, putting up a supportive environment around me. But all I needed was a strong slap to make me realize of my mistake. "It was after a very long time that I finally woke up. I was in a room…not my room. It was a motel. Beside me, he was there, sleeping. I looked to the floor, and all my clothes were lying there." I shut my eyes, scared to picture that scene all over again. "I put them on, and tried to get out of the room, but I fell back on the floor. After that, all I remember is waking up in my room after sleeping for an entire day. I had a couple of scars on my hands, but I just couldn't remember how I got them." I cried all over again.
Beside me, I grabbed Louis' collar and said, "Lou, you have to trust me! I didn't know it was gonna happen. I really thought he was sober and I-"
He put his finger to my lips. "Shhh.." He pulled me into a warm hug, my tears soaking his shirt. "It's okay, Nat. Everything's gonna be alright."
I still felt responsible."I'm so sorry.."
He rubbed my back and said, "It's not your fault, honey. It's not your fault."
I grabbed another Kleenex, and said, "Lou, remember how I told you about this girl he used to torture.."
He smiled. "I know it was you." He kissed my forehead and added, "Don't worry, this time, it won't just be a mental asylum. This time, I'll make him pay."In his tone, was a glint of an inexplicable fury.
That is when Niall took my hands and squeezed them. "This time, we all make him pay."
All the guys nodded and cheered him agreement. But a question mingled in my head.
"How?", I asked.
Two hours later, he was in my house. Freddie. Truly a demon in human form.
Louis had called up his security guys, and had them find his address and deliver him here. His hands were held back in cuffs, his blonde hair was a mated mess with eyes so delusional, I had to look away from his gaze.
He smiled when he saw me, but his expression changed when he saw Louis by my side and the other guys sitting restlessly on the couch. He shifted in his seat. "A little harsh welcome for a friend, don't you think?"
Zayn snapped at him. "We beg to differ."
Freddie looked away. His eyes then fell upon my big belly. He looked up at me, pain in his eyes. "You're pregnant?"
Louis' grip around my waist tightened. Harry stood up and yelled, "After what you did with her, what else do you expect?"
Freddie shook his head, and said, "What are you talking about?"
Louis simply lost it. He walked up to Freddie, grabbed him shirt and spoke, "Listen man, I don't know anything about you except for the fact that you took advantage of my girl, and now she's pregnant because of you. Either you confess to this right now or you can see yourself in jail, counting your grey hair!"
Freddie struggled as he replied, "What? I didn't get her pregnant! I swear!"
I shouted, "Stop lying to my face, Freddie! I know you drugged me at Megan's party and took me with you!"
He confessed, "What? Look, I'm sorry that I drugged you. After coming out from that mental place, no one wanted to talk to me. Except for you." His face softened. "I was scared to lose you. I just wanted to have you to myself, but I never got the chance to take you with me. All because of that stupid guy-"
Louis jerked him up and asked, "Which 'stupid guy'?"
"That guy.. Don't you remember Natalie?" He looked at me, but I just couldn't bring myself to remember anything about some 'stupid guy'.
"Keep going," Niall said.
"I was going to take you home with me. Both of us were in the parking lot when this stupid guy and another old guy almost drove their car over me. I ran to get you inside my car, but the stupid guy already got out of his car, and started to beat me up. He accidentally hit you, and you fell on the floor. But you were totally out of your senses, so you just slept there. I tried to get to you, but this stupid guy just won't stop beating the shit out of me."
Every word he said only sounded made that night a stranger to me.
He kept going, "I was totally knocked out, and that's when the stupid guy stopped. The other old guy, he pulled you up and brushed off the dirt from your dress. He tried to clean your wounds and he kept calling you 'ma'am' which was really weird. And then, he put you inside your car, and the stupid guy gave me one last punch on my face and I was out."
I didn't want to believe him, and neither did Louis. "Are you telling us the truth or just making this up as you go?," Louis asked.
Freddie refused to look at him. He set his eyes on me and begged, "You have to trust me, Nat! I know I did some terrible things to you and I'm sorry. I really am.. but trust me, I would never do this to you. Never!"
I didn't know what to do. How could this be?
But one thing I did know was that, Freddie wasn't lying.
So I decided, "Let him go, guys."
Liam shouted, "Paddy!"
A huge, tall man came in, and opened up the cuffs which held Freddie's hands. Freddie got up and walked to me, "I'm sorry Natalie. I really am. I know it was very-"
Harry put a hand on his chest to stop him. "You heard her, mate. You can go."
So, it wasn't Freddie. It wasn't Jake. It is sure as hell not Louis. So who was it?
I simply couldn't wrap my head around what Freddie had just said. He didn't take me home, this 'stupid guy' did. And the other old man, who called me 'ma'am'. Why would he call me 'ma'am'? Do I know him? Does he work for me? Why would he clean my dress after I fell? Why would he even care to clean up my bruises? Why?
But the truth was way to hard to comprehend.
There is only one old person who works for me. There is one old man who would help me up if I fell. One old man who would come for me if I take too long to come home. One old man who still calls me 'ma'am', even though I'm like his daughter.
I shut my eyes.
"Ma'am?," he came into the room, looking for me.
So so... who the hell is it? Just to drop a hint, it's someone you already know. But it might take some time to ring a bell. And like always, thanks for reading it this far. U guys r really awesome. Keep breathing and keep reading. :)
