5. Fast food and car ride
“Since you are the most hungry, I think you should decide what we are going to eat,” I say as I point to Karoline. “Ugh that's a really nice offer, but I don't know any American food places,” she smiles at me. “What haven't you been in The US before?” Ty asks her. She giggles and says: “No, I've never been out of Europe.” Europe? I should've guessed that from her accent. She must be from England. “Wait are you from Europe?” Quinton asks. “Yeah,” she answers; “I thought you guys could tell from my “non-American” accent.” she giggles again. “Are you from England then?” I ask. “Alot of people think that, but I'm actually not even from an English speaking country. I'm from a tiny country called Denmark,” never even heard of it. “I know you've never heard of it. It's almost 230 times smaller than the United States. We're mostly known for our butter and beer.” “You don't really seem to like it that much,” Adam laughs. “It's a hole filled with stupid people and a stupid gradingsystem.” she has stopped smiling now. It doesn't seem like she is very happy back home. I really want to talk to her about it, but it doesnt really seem like she wants to and it is really private. I really don't want her to be sad. Ian brakes the silence; “I think we should go out and eat some real American food, since you've never had it before.” we go to the cars and since we're eight people, we have to drive in two of them. I get into Adams car and Jerome sits next to him up front. Karoline opens the door next to me and sits down next to me.
“Is it alright if I ride with you guys?” I ask and smile at Adam. “Of course!” Mitch burst. “ Wow, eager much?” I ask as I laugh at him. He blushes and scratches his neck like he's nevous. Jerome and Adam just laugh. As we start driving I put one of my legs up on the seat and turn to him. He gets a bit closer to me and I whisper to him; “I really like you Mitch.” I turn to Adam. “Can we listen to some music?” I ask him. Jerome starts to turn on the radio. “Of course we can. Do you have your phone or something with music on it?” Adam asks. I hand him my phone and Jerome finds a song called “Heroes” - by David Bowie. We just sit and listen while Adam follows Ians car. I try not to look at Mitch, but it's difficult. I take a quick glance at him, only to see that he is staring at me. He leans in and whispers; “I really like you too,” with a cheeky smile on his face. “What are you two whispering about?” Jerome asks with a smile. “Oh, just about something from the pool incident earlier,” I answer with a little smile. That makes him shut up and he starts looking through my music. He finds a song called “Jonathan Low” - by Vampire Weekend. I start dancing in my seat. “This is my jam!” I almost yell and Mitch gives me a weird look. Adam and Jerome just laugh.
We pull into a carpark and we all get out of the two cars. The boys start walking into the fast food place. Mitch and I are walking a bit behind the others, when he asks; “Why did you lie to Jerome?” “I just didn't really know if you wanted me to tell him... Could you even call it a thing?” I ask him. “Do you want to make it a thing?” he asks with a cheeky smile. “Don't you want to know me a bit better first? I want to know you a bit better atleast...” I say and look up at him. He hugs me and whispers; “Sure, but can I start calling you nicknames honey?” I nodd and laugh into his chest and we just stand there. He lets go of me slowly. “We should probably find the others,” he smiles at me. I nodd and turn to walk inside. He grips my hand and just hold it while we walk. His hand is warm and it makes sparks go through my entire arm. When we get inside, the others look at us weirdly and they stop talking. They're standing looking from the counter when we walk up to them. “So, umm what happened?” Adam asks giggling between his words. I look at our hands and blush, while I wait for Mitch to say something. “Umm... We kinda just confessed that we both really like eachother,” he almost mumbles. “Mitch has got a girlfriend! Mitch has got a girlfriend!” Jerome sings, dancing around us while the others are laughing their butts off. “What about some food? I'm starving,” I ask while dragging Mitch over to the others. “What do you want?” he asks. I look at the menu over the counter. There's a lot to choose from. “Hmm, I'll just have the same as you,” I answer. “Then I'll have what you want.” “You're a cheeky little fella.” I laugh at him “It's your first time at an American fast food place. Just order what you want!” he laughs. I walk up to the counter and theres an older woman behind the counter. I think she's around 50 maybe. She says; “What do you want sweetheart?” “What is the most American thing you have?” I ask. “That will be this burger,” she says and points to the menu thing above her head. “Okay. I'll have that with french fries and a big soda, please,” I smile at her. The boys order too and while we wait the woman starts talking to us; “Is it your first time in America? How are you liking it so far?” I try my best to answer all of her questions, but she just keep coming up with more. Our food is finally done and we walk back to the cars.
