Everything happened in slow motion. The noise from the party was drowned out by the panic going through my head. All I saw was Niall falling into the pool and making a splash. His legs were thrown up into the air and his face was full of confusion. But of course this all happened in a matter of seconds.
“OH MY GOD!!” I screamed. I rushed over to the pool and watched as Niall came up from under the water, gasping for air. He wiped his face with his hands, then ran his hands through his hair. He looked around, finally, his eyes landing on me. I smiled weakly at him and extended my hand out to him. He stood there in the pool for a minute or two, staring at me, his face expressionless. Niall finally forced himself to walk over to the corner of the pool where the steps are, and where I was standing, waiting for him.
He walked up the stairs slowly, trying not to slip. His one hand was gripping the pool edge, the other hand was extended out towards mine. I grabbed it and placed my other hand on his triceps, pulling him out and giving him support. Niall looked up at me and I just smiled at him again. He was finally out of the pool, and we stepped off to the side, away from the pool’s edge.
Niall’s clothes made a big splash on the wood floor, releasing the water that they were holding. Niall looked down at himself and shook his head. I squeezed his hand and he looked up at me. I stared into his eyes.
“Niall, are you alright?” I said softly but seriously.
He nodded his head. I think he is upset that this happened. Niall still has no expression on his face. It was then that I heard giggles and laughter behind me. I turned around to see everyone there, looking at me and Niall, probably more Niall though. I shook my head in disgust and looked back at Niall. Niall was looking up too, watching the crowd. Now there was a wave of anger across his face.
“Don’t worry about them, Niall. The important thing is that you’re okay and didn’t get hurt.” He looked down at me and I smiled at him. Nothing.
“Here, Niall.” I looked to my left and saw Liam handing Niall a towel. “Are you ok?”
Niall looked at him and nodded. He snatched the towel from Liam’s hands and dried his face. Niall looked at Liam and then me. I smiled weakly at him again.
“I am going to go change.” He said sternly, and walked off, throwing the towel over his shoulder.
I started to walk after him. I felt bad and I didn’t want him to be alone. But a hand placed on my shoulder stopped me from doing so. I turned around to see Liam staring at me.
“Just let him be. He needs some alone time to cool off. It happens all the time, he will be fine. I promise.” He smiles at me.
I weakly smile and look down. “Ok.” I said softly.
The music started to pick up again and the crowd of people went back to what they were doing, as if nothing happened. Liam led me back towards Zayn, Perrie, Sarah and Harry. As I was walking back over, I looked back towards the house. I look up to the second story to see Niall standing there in a big window. I can only assume that he was standing in his bedroom. He was watching me from above because once I made eye contact with him, he closed the curtain. I looked down and sighed.
I know she was only trying to help, to comfort me. And I thank her for that. But I couldn’t help but feel angry, embarrassed, and totally pissed off. I just needed to leave, to be away from those annoying people for awhile. I just hope that Rebecca wasn’t upset with me. Normally, I would have laughed it off. I usually don’t care if I make a fool out of myself or not. But this time it was different with Rebecca being there. I just couldn’t believe something like that happened.
I threw on some blue denim jeans, a white v-neck t-shirt, a red cardigan and a pair of white and blue Nike sneakers. I put all of my wet clothes from the pool incident in my bathtub, letting them dry. I will come back to them later. I am drying my hair with the towel Liam gave me. It is still damp and I don’t feel like re-styling it. I got out my blue snapback with the New York Yankees symbol on and put it on backwards.
I pulled back the curtain a little and peeked outside to see what was going on. I saw everybody still dancing. I looked for Rebecca and saw her still dancing with everybody too. She was smiling and I couldn’t help but smile too. The DJ then announced that food was ready and everybody on the dance floor started to rush into the house. I watched as Liam led Rebecca inside, and Harry, Sarah, Perrie and Zayn following behind them. I decided I will wait until everyone is done getting their food. I am not quite ready to face everyone yet, even though I am starving.
After going through the mob of people trying to get food, I was able to sit down outside again with Zayn and Perrie back by the pool on the lawn chairs. Harry and Sarah came a couple minutes after me and sat down as well. We all sat there eating the food, commenting how delicious it was and laughing. I couldn’t help but look up at Niall’s window to see the curtain still closed and his bedroom light still on. I felt bad and hoped that he would come down soon. Screw the other people and their nasty ways.
After some time, I finished my plate of food and realized I was very thirsty. I stood and held my empty plate and looked around at everyone else, who were still eating.
“I am going to go and get myself a drink. Does anyone want anything?” I asked. Everyone looked at me and shook their heads with a smile.
“Ok, I will be right back.” I walked away from them towards the drink table. Along the way I found a garbage and threw out my plate. I got to the drink table and poured myself some soda. I started to walk back, passing the French doors to the house, when something caught my eye that made me stop.
I stood in the entrance way and peered in. I saw Liam sitting on the arm rest of one of the couches talking to someone. I shifted myself so that I could see who he was talking to. It was Niall. Niall was sitting down on the couch, leaning forward. He had a plate of food in front of him. Louis then appeared, placing a drink on the table for Niall, and sitting down next to him.
I really wanted to talk to Niall. I slowly walk towards them. Liam looks up and sees me. He holds up his hand, signaling me to stop. I do as he says, and stand still. He then holds up his finger, signaling a couple more minutes. I nod, understanding, turn around and walk back outside. I wanted to wait for them to be done, so I can talk to Niall.
I walk to the side of the pool and look out to the LA city skyline. The city is all light up and it looks so pretty against the night sky. Night sky? Is it really nighttime? Have we really been here that long? I just stare out at it and sigh.
“Hello.” I heard a soft, kind voice behind me.
I turn around to see a tall, thin girl standing there, smiling at me. She looked a little older than me, and had brown hair and eyes. She looked very pretty. She had red skinny jeans, a white, three-quarter sleeve, loose shirt, and blue vans on. Her long, brown hair was down and accented her face nicely.
“Hi.” I said back sweetly with a smile.
“Are you alright? You seem a little sad.”
“Oh no, I’m fine. Thank you though.”
She smiles at me. “I love your outfit. It accents your figure very nicely.”
I smile at her. I look down at myself and then back up at her. “Thank you, you’re very kind.”
She steps forward and holds out her hand. “Eleanor.”
I accept her handshake. “Rebecca.” I smile at her and she smiles back. “I love your name, its very pretty.”
She chuckles. “Thanks.” She comes closer and stands next to me and looks out to the city.
“Isn’t it beautiful?” I ask, looking back at the city.
“Oh my god, yes.”
“Is this your first time in America? I can tell by your accent that you’re from England.”
Eleanor looks at me and laughs. “Dead give away right?”
I chuckle and nod my head. “Yep.”
She smiles. “Actually, no. I have been here in LA before and New York City as well for some modeling jobs.”
“Ohhh, that explains why you’re so pretty.” Eleanor laughs and so do I.
“Thank you. Do you live around here?”
“Well, yes and no. I am originally from New York, but I am spending the summer here with my friend.”
“Oooo, that sounds like fun.” She says. I smile at her. “How do you know the boys? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“Not at all. I actually met them at their last concert the other night. Niall invited me to the party.”
Eleanor looked a little surprised when I said that, but then she just smiled. It got quiet for a minute or two.
“So, how do you know the boys?” I asked her. “Obviously from England.”
Eleanor chuckled again. “I’m actually--”
“Eleanor?!” I heard someone scream, that cut off Eleanor from speaking.
“Over here!!” Eleanor screamed back and waved at who ever it was. I look up to see Louis walking over to her. “Sorry about him.” Eleanor said to me. I looked back at her. “As I was saying before… I am Louis’ girlfriend.”
My eyebrows shot up in surprise, and I nodded at her. Everything sort of clicks together now.
“What are you doing over here?” Louis asks Eleanor.
“I was talking to this lovely girl right here.”
Louis looks at me and does a double-take. I smile at him and he smiles back.
“Buttercup!!” Louis wraps me in a hug and lifts me up off the ground, shaking me. I start to laugh and look at Eleanor who is laughing too.
Louis puts me back down. “Hi, Louis.” I finally say. Louis smiles his adorable smile.
“What are you doing here?”
I was kind of taken back in shock that Louis didn’t know that I was invited but I ignored it. “Niall invited me and Sarah.”
Louis’ face shows that he is in total shock. “Did he now?”
I smile and nod. “How is he? Niall, I mean.”
Louis looks at me in confusion but then understands what I am talking about. “Niall is fine. Just a little embarrassed that’s all.” I nod my head. I really want to talk to him.
“Do you think I can talk to him?”
Louis looks at me, his face unsure. “I don’t know.” I nod again and look down. “But, we are about to play some party games. And I am sure that Niall won’t want to miss them.” I look back up at Louis and smile, thinking back to what Niall and I were talking about before.
“Why don’t you come with us. I am sure Niall will be out soon.” Eleanor suggested. She flashed a comforting smile.
“Ok.” I say.
“That’s my buttercup.” Louis says with a smile. I laughed. Louis puts his arm around Eleanor’s lower back and his other arm around my shoulders and leads us towards the dance floor for some party games.
