Fire had grown to be the least of Ava's worries. Red Eyes had seen her soul, he knew her secrets, desires, wants, her entire life and he used it against her. Everyday she was greeted by Caiden.
"It's your fault." He would say, over and over. "You're pathetic." When Ava would cry, he'd walk up to her and push her, hit her, slap her. "I never cared for you, you were nothing to me. We meant nothing. You are weak." And as the insults continued Ava would break down more, cries turning to screams.
At that point, she would begin to feel the fire all around her and in her insides. Chains would snake around and restrain Ava's arms and feet, and then they would pull tight; like in her dream. Except, there was never anyone turning a crank. The chains had a mind of their own. screamed as they would tighten pulling my body in all directions. Then everything would fade to black.
Then it was as if she was 'reborn'; it was the start of a new day, at least that was the best that Ava could think. So far, she had counted 10950 days (30 years not counting leap years), by marking the ground with her finger nails. Some tallies were stained with blood, her blood.
On occasion, she would get a visit from Red Eyes.
"My pet," he said. She usually ignored him, which resulted with a snap of his fingers. Obviously, he didn't appreciate being ignored. Immediately, Ava felt excruciating pain and watched as her red dress caught fire and then her arms and legs... eventually everything. When it stopped she looked down at herself. Her dress had been transformed. It was now black, waterfall style. It seemed that the edges had been torn and burned by flames. Ava skin seemed unharmed, as it always was.
"I think this is much more fitting." Then he walked away leaving Ava alone.
By day, 1461, year four, Caiden had almost given up on the thought of Ava being alive. She was gone, and there was no denying it. He never forgot Ava though; he just chose not the think about her. Instead, he focused on his job. Caiden never went on a date with someone more than once. He kept her things in boxes, but moved out of their apartment and into a small house.
"It's a nice place." Caiden told his mother on the phone.
"I'm sure it is." He could tell she was smiling, but he voice sounded sad.
Brad brought beer and food over as a house warming gift and they sat in his new living room and just hung out like they used to, it was refreshing. Things were starting to become more bearable, not because he was forgetting, but because he had learned to cope. Caiden had finally made friends with another woman, a coworker of his. It wasn't anything serious, they weren't dating. Everyone he knew loved her and said he should make something of their relationship. She was sweet, funny and everything a guy could ask for in a woman. But not Caiden, she knew that and understood.
14600 days... 40 years... 40 years of the same thing, the same torture, every single day. Ava lay in agony, screaming at nothing. Her torment was over for now, but she wanted to scream. After the visits from Caiden it seemed that the silence was worse that the actually pain. She paused a moment, hearing something far off in their hole. She stood and looked around, her hands wrapped around the bars of her cell. Then she saw it, a shadow figure off in the corner. A smile spread on her lips, her eyes were wide and her hair was wild. She looked psychotic and truthfully, she was. She had lost her mind here in this hell hole.
"Red Eyes is gonna kill you." Ava shrieked with laughter. Other voices mimicker her own, they were the voices of her people. She was the leader of these souls. They did as she said, and repeated everything she did or said.
"Red Eyes?" The person asked as they lingered in the shadows.
"He's going to burn you. You are going to wish you never got out." Ava's voice rose and fell irregularly, she sounded insane. Her followers cackled and slammed their hands on the bars of their cells happily. Seeing others in pain was the only source of pleasure in hell; if it wasn't you getting burned, it was a good day.
"Got out? I didn't escape." The figure stepped forward. He was tall, he had dark hair and startling blue eyes. He had an aura of importance and unmatched power, Ava a moment of fear when he showed himself but she swallowed it.
"Well, in that case, you are dead." Ava's eyes went wide, she had never seen someone waltz into hell uninvited.
"I doubt it." He laughed loudly. Her people sneered at him screaming and spitting.
"Get out!" Ava yelled, as she did flames grew around the walls of the hell hole.
You poor tormented souls." He walked up to the cages of my followers and placed his palm on their heads. "Do not be afraid." They cringed away from his touch, then fell to the ground.
"Stop! You are killing my people."
Before he could respond, Red Eyes appeared. Ava smiled softly and waited for the imminent burning that awaited this mysterious man. There was a twinge of worry in the back of her mind as she thought about his fate.
"Poppet, what in the blazes..." He stopped mid sentence and spun around. "What are you doing here?"
"Giving these people peace." The blue eyes man said.
"They have sinned, and they must pay the price. Those are the rules. These people are worthless to your lot." Red Eyes snapped.
"I did not invite him." Ava said in a dazed voice.
"I know poppet, now shut up." He snapped his fingers and the chains came to life, binding her hands and feet, the fire began to burn again. Rather than scream Ava laughed, this wasn't torture anymore, this was normal routine. It was going to end... but it always started again. It had driven her insane, and she couldn't differentiate between pain and pleasure, or anything else for that matter.
"Caiden," She called out. "I'm sorry." The blue eyed man looked over to her once more at the mention of that name. He immediately knew who she was.
"She is my latest project." Red Eyes said. "The first person in ages to summon me, my first soul in millions of years. She is going to be very special."
"Move." Blue Eyes said firmly.
"No, you are the trespasser." Red Eyes responded.
"I can kill you, and I will." Blue Eyes lifted his hand. "Now move."
Red Eyes held his hands up in surrender and snapped his fingers. With a burst of flames, he disappeared. The blue eyes man stepped forward.
"Get away from me." Ava said struggling to move, the chains holding her firmly in place.
"I am not who you should be afraid of, I am here to help." His arm reached into the cage. Ava froze. Up close, he looked to be glowing.
"What..." He put a finger to his lips.
His hand touched her forehead and suddenly everything was spinning and memories came flooding back. When she opened her eyes, Ava realized that she wasn't in hell anymore.
