13. Britie - Daughtless
We wait a few minutes until all the new Daughtless come, then everyone starts running down the stairs. They are running fast, I am surprised that people aren't falling. I was running so fast I thought I could be flying. All I saw was black and every now and then a flash of white, blue, red.
Their was so many Daughtless around me I couldn't see where they were running to. Then I heard it. A train. They couldn't possibly jump on a train. Could they?
I guess they can. We started running up next to the train and jumping into the cars. I grab a hand and pull myself in. I look at the person that helped me on a train. He was tan, he is daughtless born and raised, and had black hair that he had styled into a quiff. "Hi, my name is Britie.", I had to yell over the wind, it was annoying my hair was flying out of my updo. He smiled, "Hey, I'm Erik." He didn't have to yell as much, because the train was slowing down on a curve. Erik looked at me and whispered in my ear, "Be ready to jump. Hold my hand." He started pushing his way towards the door of the train. Then he jumped with me with him. I tried to scream but it was more like a happy laugh. We landed on a metal roof. Pain went up my shins.
Erik comes over to help me up, "Are you okay?" I look at him, he looks better in the light, and nod. He helps me up and gestures towards the group of Daughtless. I follow him. "Listen up! I am one of the leaders at Daughtless. Let me put this out here. I want you to jump." A bunch of people start murmuring. I look over the edge and there is a huge dark hole. You can't see what's at the bottom. Erik nudges me, "I'll jump with you, it won't be so bad." He grabs my hand again and he helps me up onto the edge. He squeezes my hand once, then twice, then a last time. We jump as people gasp.
The wind is ripping through my hair, but the only thing I notice is Erik's hand. I smile. Then we hit a net.
