28. New Bunch of Folks
We continue through the fields until we reach a small town, there is a crowd of townspeople walking the streets, they seem to be scared of us because they huddle with one another. The dwarves, Legolas, Thorin and I all exchange a look of confusion. "I'll go speak with them." Thorin says. He slowly approaches the crowd. Mothers pull their children behind them and fathers step up to the front of the crowd, protecting the women and children. "We mean you no harm, we just need somewhere to stay." Thorin says calmly. The women are still afraid. Maybe they haven't seen people like us. I look at the way they are dressed. They seem to look French. "Thorin! I think I know why they are scared!" I call to Thorin. He turns around and motions for me to come over. I look up at Legolas and he nods. I slowly walk over and smile to the woman. "Est-ce que tu parle francais?" I ask. "Oui." The woman says. "Bonjour. Je m'appelle Aquilia, et vous?" I say. "Bonjour Aquilia, Je m'appelle Jolenta." She says. I smile. "Mes amis et moi besoin d' un endroit pour rester pour la nuit. Avez-vous une pièce d'épargner?" I ask. "Oui. Mon amie, Letha peut vous aider." She says as a taller, younger looking woman approaches us. She wears a dress that ends at her ankles. It looks to be made of silk. She wears a white hat, not too small, not too big. She has blue eyes, like Legolas. She smiles down at me and motions for us to follow her. "Come on everybody!" I say, looking back at everybody. Everyone smiles at me and follows Letha. "Nice job Aquilia." Kili says, smiling. I smile back and look to Legolas. "Since when could you speak French?" He asked, giving me a playful smirk. "For a long time. Remember how I told you I have alot of talents?" I asked, giving Legolas a smirk, and sped up to catch up with the others. I look back at Legolas who is giving me a teasing look. We continue to follow Letha until we reach a large house with many beds inside. It looks to be able to fit a group twice the size of all of us "This is where you can stay. Feel free to have something to eat. If you would like to, you can bathe in a house just up the path. If you need anything, don't hesitate to find me." She says. "Thank you." I say. Letha smiles goes to leave but I quickly stop her. "Um, Letha?" I say. She turns around. "How many of you speak french?" I ask. "Everyone does. I am the only one who is bilingual in English and French. There are some others who are taking english but they are still a bit rusty." I nod. "Alright. Thanks Letha." I say and she smiles and leaves the room. I turn back to everyone and they are all staring at me. "What?" I ask. "Nothing, we just didn't know you spoke french." Thorin said. "Well, I guess I have my parents to thank for it. They made me take French when I was very young." I said. "Would you mind teaching us some french?" Kili asked. "Haha sure. What do you want to say?" I ask. "Well, how do you say hello?" He asks. "There are two ways you can say it. You can either say salut, or you can say bonjour." I say. One at a time, each dwarf repeated the words multiple times. "That's it!" I said. "Now, goodbye is au revoir." I said. Again, each dwarf practiced saying it. They were pretty good. We spend the next few hours practicing French until we decided to go to bed. "Okay, well I want to have a word with Thorin and some of the other dwarves." Legolas tells me. "Is there something going on again between you and the others?" I ask. "No. don't worry babe. Everything is fine. It is just going to be a discussion about what the plan will be once we get to the lonely mountain." I gave Legolas a confused look. "Well then why can't I be a part of the discussion?" I asked, confused. "Because we are going to have to find you something special to do." Legolas pulls me close, resting his forehead on mine. "I already lost you once, Aquilia. I don't want to lose you again." He whispered before giving me a kiss. "Alright, but don't take to long." I say and go to get ready for bed.
