I pulled down my suitcase and stared at the familiar front door I didn't expect to see again that early. I looked for the key in my bag and quickly opened the door rushing then inside the flat. After grabbing my luggage, I walked in and stayed still in the small hall. I sighed loudly; I wasn't fond of being back here at all.
I left my stuff there and went into the kitchen to make myself some tea. A while later, I was sitting on a stool while sipping slowly the hot water. I turned on the radio, I couldn't bear that silence anymore.
"I'm sure you all will remember the next song! Let's listen to Story Of My Life by One Direction!" a voice exclaimed, soon followed by the slow tune of the song. I listened to it carefully and as I recognized the Irish accent of Niall, I burst into tears.
Why had everything collapsed so fast? I only saw him twice; everything was fine. But then, dad had called me and it had gone bad. Maybe, I shouldn't have come home; I should have stayed in London even though Dad didn't want me to. But the reason why I left was that I needed to have an answer; I wanted to know what Dad had known all these years about Niall that he had never told me. I couldn't believe he had lied to me all this time! Twenty years of my life couldn't be based on a lie.
I cried harder and harder for a long time, unable to calm myself down.
Suddenly, my phone rang. I took a deep breath and tried to wipe away my tears before answering though I didn't know the number written on the screen.
"Ciara?! Is that you?" an anxious voice yelled in the phone, taking me aback. The person on the other side of the phone seemed to sigh with belief. "Where did you go?" I recognized mum's voice. I opened the mouth to answer but she cut me off as she seemed to speak to someone else who must be beside her.
"Sorry, the two ones with me didn't want to shut up," she told me, apologizing.
"Who are you with?"
"Niall and Harry."
I sighed. What were the two of them doing at her house at that time of the night? Weren't they supposed to be with their manager or something like that?
Mum broke the silence by repeating her question again, "where did you go, Ciara?"
"I just came back home. There's nothing to worry about." I tried not to show how I really felt about it.
I heard whispers but didn't understand them. "Why did you go back home?" Niall's voice shouted in the phone. I could hear sadness in his tone and I had to make a huge effort not to start crying again.
"I...I had to... There are some things I have to know. Some things aren't clear," I said in a whisper. None of them replied straight away but it was mum who broke the silence a while later, "what do you mean? I don't understand..."
"It doesn't matter. I'll explain once it will get better." My tone must have been a bit sharp but I didn't want her to worry.
"And how do you know I left?" I changed subject.
"Niall and I went to your house but one of your neighbours told us you had left earlier." I raised my eyebrows in surprise even though they couldn't see me. Why did Harry and Niall go to my house?
"Was it an urgent matter? Because I'll come back to London soon so we'll see when I'll be back!" I exclaimed, feeling happiness overrunning me at the mere thought of seeing the two of them again.
I expected them to be thrilled about that idea too but my sentence was followed by an awkward silence. Then, I heard footsteps walking away from the phone and Harry's voice yelling Niall's name. But it seemed Niall didn't come back so Harry spoke to me, "I'm sorry, Ciara... But you won't meet any of us ever again. We went to your house to tell you goodbye..." His Sad voice echoed through my head. No. He must have been lying; this couldn't be true.
"I... I don't understand..." I stuttered.
"Well..." Harry started to reply but Niall's angry voice cut him off, "This is stupid! There is nothing to understand! I don't care what the management said!" The management? What did it mean?
"They can't rule our private life all the time! I am not going to lose my sister again for the next twenty years!" Tears started to form in my eyes as I listened to him.
"And you want to know what? I'm coming to Ireland. Yes, I'll join you there!". What? No, He couldn't! It would make things worse!
"Niall... I'm really happy you decided to keep in touch with me I don't th..." I started to say but I couldn't finish speaking.
"It's too late, Ciara... They are gone."
