“Indeed he is.” She told the technician something and then directed me to inside the booth.
Zayn whispered it was going to be okay and I gulped. Louis spoke up, “Oh come on, Ellen! Let one of us sing with her. She’s so nervous! Look at her, she’s shaking!”
It’s true, I was shaking really hard. I tried controlling myself but it was harder than it seemed.
She nodded, “Which one of you boys wants to sing with her?”
Zayn volunteered almost immediately. He went straight inside the booth claiming his microphone nearest the window.
I took the one beside it. He tapped on the headphones he was wearing, silently telling me to put mine on.
I slid the big black headphones on and waited until I heard Ellen give us directions. “You two both know what song?”
I looked over to Zayn. He leaned up to the mic, “Well, I know the chorus of Lights by Ellie Goulding. Addie knows the whole song.”
I nodded in agreement. “Yeah, I know that song.”
“Very well. It’ll start in about 30 seconds.” I shut my eyes tightly to focus.
I heard the music blasting through my headphones. I instantly gave it my all.
I barely heard when Zayn joined in for the chorus.
As I heard the music fade. I finally opened my eyes and looked around at everyone. Harry had come in with Liam and they were bugging their eyes out of their sockets. Louis looked to be applauding and wooping at me, holding his phone up. I guess he had been recording me. No doubt that was going on twitter..or being sent to Niall. Either one was rather embarrassing.
Zayn ripped off his headphones and then mine. “ADDIE! YOU WERE SO GREAT!” He threw his arms around my waist and lifted me off the ground in a tight hug.
Ellen waved us out of the booth. I followed closely behind Zayn to hear her verdict.
We all nestled onto a couch. Well, actually I had to sit on Zayn’s lap because they all refused to move for me.
“Addie, you are very talented. I like your voice, it’s quite unique. Never really heard anything like it before.”
I bit my lip hard, to keep from squealing.
“Which is why I think the boys should have a song with you on the album.”
They all cheered. Harry punched my arm, “And you were nervous, psh. I barely made it on X Factor and here you are getting told how amazing you are!”
“I also hear you are a songwriter?” Ellen said, trying to keep us on task.
I nodded, “I helped Niall with What Makes You Beautiful.”
My phone vibrated and I ignored it. Even though it was Niall calling. He didn’t know I was here. Unless Louis had sent him the video. I glanced over to Louis who was typing away on his iPhone.
The boys discussed further plans. Some went as far as me being an opening act for them on tour. I didn’t oblige. The idea was still out there in Ellen’s mind.
“You know I have this friend, Simon. You might have heard of him?” Ellen asked me.
“Simon? Simon as in Simon Cowell? THAT SIMON?” I asked.
“Yes, he’s very interested in getting some talent under his wings. He has a little record label and is looking for some quality. Louis, why don’t you send me Annie’s video so I can pass it along to Simon during lunch?”
He speedily sent it to Ellen. Everyone was so busy preparing my future, it was rather overwhelming. Yesterday I was just singing in the car with Louis. How did THIS happen?
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Slow down, everyone.” I stopped everyone’s plans. “You’re going pretty fast. How about we just discuss doing this duet…or whatever you would call it?”
“You have to be a signed artist to be on the record.” Ellen said as she flipped her blonde hair on to one shoulder.
“Oh, well then I guess you should probably send the video to Simon so he can say whether or not he likes it.”
“I already did. He said he’s watching it in an hour.”
The boys eventually had to go record some solos and things. I quietly excused myself to head to the washroom.
I pulled out my sleek black, iPhone. 3 missed calls from Niall, 1 new text from Mum, and several 100 new mentions on twitter.
I opened my Mum’s text first, Hazza sent me the video of you singing! Wow! Call me l8r :)
I laughed at her abbreviations. I quickly dialed Niall’s number. It got to the second ring before he hastily answered. “Oh my god, Addie! You can sing!”
I laughed, “Yes Niall. Harry’s not the only talented one. I guess Lou sent the video to just about everyone.”
“Yeah, I was at the hospital and I had to leave the room to watch. Zayn stopped singing after a while because you were so powerful!”
“Did he really? I didn’t even notice. God, this is really embarrassing.”
“No, you were lovely. Like usual.”
I giggled, “Aw, Nialler.” I remembered the reason he wasn’t here, “How’s your Grandmum?”
I heard him clear his throat, “She just went in for surgery. She’ll be out in two hours or so. We’re all praying.”
“I’m so sorry Niall. I hope all is well with her and your family.”
“Thank you, Addie. I really should be heading back now. Have a good day. I’ll ring you tonight, maybe?”
“No problem, Niall. I hope you have a good day as well. I hope you can. I miss you.”
“Miss you too, Addie.” He said before hanging up.
I looked at my phone for a minute before realizing I had been in the washroom for over 15 minutes. The boys are probably going to think I fell in or something.
I exited and found myself back in the recording room.
Louis was wrapping up his solo work whilst the other boys were strewn about the room.
Harry was busy laughing at Zayn who was taped to an office chair. Liam was guilty of that; he held the clear duct tape in his hands.
“Addie, want lunch with us?” Liam asked as I sat down on the couch in the other side of the room.
“Yeah sure.” I mumbled.
The rest of the day went well. I recorded part of What Makes You Beautiful with the boys and they loved it. I sang Niall’s part and they sent it to him so he could have a listen. He loved it and gushed about it on twitter.
We were all lying round in the flat when there was a knock at the door.
“Go get the door, Addie.” Liam commanded, staring at me. We had been talking the whole night whilst the others watched some game.
“Liam, you just want an excuse to look at my bottom!”
He chuckled as I stood up and he smacked it. “Hey!” We both laughed.
I went to the door, “Hello! Is Harry home?” Caroline stood at the door. Time for some pay back, Hazza.
“Yes, he is. But he isn’t allowed girls in here after 9.” I said starting to close the door in her face.
She put her hand on the door, “Funny because he practically begged for me to come over. I really don’t think you control him, honey.” If it’s one thing I can’t stand it’s when people call others HONEY or sweetheart. “Who’s the little slut, Harry?”
Caroline asked, pushing past me. “Whoa… slut?” I rendered.
She nodded, “Yeah, pretty much. Why else would you be here?”
Harry stood up, “Addie is certainly not a slut.”
“Oh, Addie…Harry’s sister. I read about you on twitter the other day. I heard you and little Nialler had a thing? Saw pictures of you holding hands.”
My eyes widened and Harry’s jaw almost hit the floor, “What the bloody hell is she talking about, Addie?”
