"It's amazing." Harry gasped
"Yeah it is," Ron agreed
"It's even better than Sirius described." Harry continued to marvel at the castle that was Hogwarts
I couldn't blame him. It was huge and it looked so...so... I didn't know how to describe it, but I could sense the power rolling off of it's walls. I could not believe I would be staying there. Hermione tried pushing her way through us boys to get a look out the window. I smiled at her and stepped back.
"Thank you, Neville." Hermione nodded at me politely
"Your welcome, at least one boy here isn't a rude buffoon." I coughed
"What?" Ron stepped back
"Oh, sorry Hermione." Harry said stepping away from the window
"Thank you," Hermione huffed and I heard her laughing into the window
"First years this way," Hagrid led us to the edge of a huge lake
"It's the Black Lake." Hermione smiled at my puzzled expression, "All first year go across. I read about it in Hogwarts A History."
"Ah," I nodded
"The Sorting Ceremony will begin in a little while. I must go in for now, so wait here quietly and patiently." The lady who had introduced herself to us as Professor McGonagall said
She turned and went through the large doors in front of us. A platinum blonde boy walked over to where he stood in front of me. He smiled and held out his hand. I rolled my eyes.
"The name's Draco Malfoy. I think you'll notice there are some people here you shouldn't hang around. I can help you there. You are Neville Longbottom, right?" He waited for me to shake his hand
"I think I can take care of myself," I laughed
He glared at me and walked back into the crowd. I turned to Hermione who smiled at me. Harry and Ron were laughing really hard. Professor McGonagall came back out. They shut up immediately after. She shut the doors behind her.
"Okay, now come along. Quietly please." She gestured for us to follow and we walked through the large doors she had previously gone through
"The Sorting Ceremony will proceed in a moment, but before we get to that I have a few announcements to make. First of all I wish to remind you who have come to school here before that the Forbidden Forest is off limits to all students, there will be no tricking the first years to go into the forest. Second, I am glad to announce that the Sorting Ceremony will begin now." A tall man with an extremely long beard said and then sat down
"The Sorting Ceremony will proceed as follows; each student's name will be called. When your name is called you will walk up here and I will place the Sorting Hat onto your head. A house will be called and you will go to that house's table to wait patiently for the ceremony to end." Professor McGonagall said
She began saying names, but I didn't pay attention. Ron had mentioned something about all of the houses. He had said Slytherin was for stuck up snobs, future evil doers. He told me that Ravenclaw was for the intelligent boring people. He pointed out that Hufflepuff was for people they didn't know what to do with. Then he finally brought up Griffindor, it was a place for those with courage and true talent or that's what he told me. I heard my name and looked up.
"Neville Longbottom," said Professor McGonagall
I walked up and she placed the Sorting Hat on my head. It muttered to me in my head and I sighed wishing it would just shut up so I could go back to my thoughts. It ignored me and continued muttering as if it was a bug in my ear. I sighed let it rummage through my thoughts.
"GRIFFINDOR!" The Sorting Hat screamed across the silent hall and I heard cheering
I walked to my table where Hermione and Ron were waiting. We listened to the rest of the names being called and finally we heard Harry's. He was sent to Griffindor to join us. We all cheered as loud as we could. Every student was supposed to clap at least when a first year was sent to a house. The house the student was expected to cheer at receiving that student because it meant they got another member.
"We are all together," Ron grinned ear to ear
"Hermione isn't here," I pointed out
"All the better, we don't need a girl." Ron rolled his eyes at us
"Whatever, Ron." Harry and I laughed at him
"I'm just saying, we're boys and she's... she's," He scrunched up his nose in disgust, "she's a girl."
"So?" Harry asked, "It's not like anyone of us likes her. Oooo, Ron! Do you like Hermione?"
"No! No way, I could never like such a know it all." Ron's eyes widened
We fell back onto our backs laughing at Ron. Ron sighed and sat down on his bed waiting for us to stop laughing. He looked so annoyed which made Harry and I laugh harder. Then Harry turned to me as we both remembered that he had just called Hermione a know it all. We turned toward him with anger in our eyes.
"You can't call Hermione a know it all, she's our friend. Not only that, you're her friend too." I glared at Ron
"She may talk about how she knows a lot, but that doesn't make her a know it all. And even if she was you don't even have the right to call her one." Harry glared at Ron too
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you two liked Hermione." Ron laughed at us
"As a friend, yes." We both said at the same time
Ron just laughed at that, we rolled our eyes.
"Come on, we need to get ready for bed." I said and they both nodded at me
