Niall and I had laid on his bed for hours, talking about personal things.
"I've always wanted to go to Fiji." I whisper.
"Same. I love the sun."
He locked our hands together and brought my face into his, giving me a quick peck on the nose.
"We should go there soon."
"Sounds like fun."
"You know, our four month anniversary is coming up."
I thought about it. Had it really been four months?
"You don't even remember our anniversary, do you?"
I laughed a little, "Isn't it supposed to be the girl who remembers?"
He started to tickle me and I screamed of laughter.
"Stop!" I tried everything I could to swat him away from me, but he brought his body on top of mine, looking down at me with a serious expression. I laughed and pushed him over, so I was on top of him.
"I like this." He smiled.
I brought my face down onto his, giving him tiny pecks on his nose, cheeks and forehead. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and I sighed.
From: Mumma Bear👩
Come home. Now.
I showed Niall the text and he sighed.
"I'm an adult now, I should be able to stay."
I started to type when Niall stopped me.
"You should go home."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, just please be back soon."
I brought my face on his and gave him a passionate kiss.
"I promise." I whispered. I left my forehead on his and we looked at each other. I watched as Niall's lips curved up into a smile. I was about to kiss him when I felt my phone vibrate again. This time it was a call. I answered without looking at the caller ID.
"What?" I asked into the phone, annoyed.
"Well that's a bit rude there Sammy."
I laughed, "What do you want Mike?"
"I'm coming to pick you up, okay? Mum's not angry at you. Someone's here."
I heard the sound of cars beeping through the phone. He must've already been driving here.
"I'll see you soon, sis."
"Love ya." I said as I hung up.
"Who was that?" Niall asked.
"It was Mike, but I have no idea what's going on. He said someone's here."
He gave me a confused look and I shrugged. I walked around the room, picking up my shoes and fixing my hair in a mirror. I heard the doorbell ring.
"That must be Mike."
He rose from his bed and shook his hair, making it look scruffy. I walked over to him laughing and fixing it.
"There." I smiled.
"What would I do without you?"
There was a knock at Niall's door which interrupted us.
"Sammy, you're brother's here."
I walked out of Niall's room and into the hall. Niall followed me to the door and stopped.
"I would follow you out there, but I am only wearing jocks. The paparazzi would get a photo."
I sighed and gave him a last kiss.
"I'll be back." I called as I walked to Mike's car.
I got into the passengers side and gave Niall a last wave.
"You're never going to believe it."
"Just tell me."
My heart sunk in shock. Dad? He was my best friend. I loved him even more than mum. Mum would never understand me and I would always hang out with dad. One day I woke up to a bran new stuffed animal on my bed. A note was stuck to it. It read, 'Take care of Mike. I'll be back for you x.' At the time, I didn't know what it meant. I walked into the kitchen to see mum crying.
"What's wrong mummy?"
"You're dad. He's-he uh, he left us. He's got another family he's been visiting in Australia." And she broke down.
My attention was suddenly brought back to the present as I felt a hand wipe a tear that had rolled down my cheek. I looked around us to see we had stopped at a red light.
"I'm sorry sis. I love you."
"I love you too."
"Mum, how'd he find us?" Was my first question as I walked through the door. I had so many questions flooding through my mind.
I turned from locking the door to see my dad, Paul, and my mum talking and laughing.
"Hello to you too, Samantha." Paul joked and I scoffed.
"Hello? You don't deserve a hello. Where was my goodbye?"
"Samantha!" Mum yelled.
I looked at her, "What? Wait what?! Are you sticking up for him? Is this fucking serious?"
"Look, Sammy, your dad and I have been taking and..." Mum stopped as Paul grabbed her hand. I gave them a look of disgust.
"What the fuck? Are you two back together? Mum, what about Morgan?"
"He wasn't right for me."
"How about that time Paul left you with two of your young children to go to Australia and love his other family? Did you just forget?"
"Look, Sammy, you don't get it. Your dad and I have loved each other since we were about nine years old. You can't just forget that kind of love."
"No, I think you don't get it. That's exactly what Paul did. He forgot that 'love' and left us like we were nothing."
"No mum, I'm not hearing anymore. I'm done. I'm not staying here. This is fucked!"
I ran into my room and grabbed a bag I had used last weekend when I went to Niall's. I grabbed the money out of my piggy bank and ran back into the kitchen.
"Where do you think you're going, little girl?" Paul asked.
I sharply turned on my heel and gave Paul a hard stare.
"I'm not a little girl anymore. I grew up. And you were never here. "Daddy."
I used my fingers as quotation marks for the last word. He looked down, clearly hurt by what I had said. But I didn't care. I ran out of the apartment and to Mike's car. He told me he'd stay in there to get some air. I jumped in the passenger's side and wiped the tears from my cheeks.
"W-well I-I said I wasn't staying-."
I stopped as I felt Mike's hand on my shoulder. That's when I really broke down. I couldn't believe what I had just saw. He was the man that made me lose trust in everyone. I was thirteen and I was confused. I didn't know why he didn't love me. He was the reason I was lead into a deep depression. I had only just became happy with life three years ago. I'm still self-conscious and have anxiety. I looked down at my wrist. The scars were still fresh... I stopped that thought. I would not go back into that.
Mike noticed me looking at my wrist and gave me a hug. It was awkward because of the gear sticks in between us. I watched as the tears rolled from my eyes, to my cheeks, to Mike's shoulder.
"Anything for you, sis."
We pulled away and sat in the car. Silence surrounded us and I started to think about bad things again. I turned on the radio and flicked through the different stations until I heard a One Direction song. I put my head back on the chair and closed my eyes, listening to Liam's solo.
"Take me to Niall's, please."
