I ran out of the ambulance truck and opened the front gate when a pair of strong hands gripped my arms. I turned to see the police officer from earlier.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but you can't go in there."
About ten nurses ran past us and into the front lawn. I felt the tears spill from my eyes onto my cheeks.
"No, please, you have to let me in there. You don't understand, Paul is my father."
"You've already told me and I understand completely." He let go of the tight hold he had on me. "Come with me."
He turned his head and started walking, I took that opportunity to run to Shay. I opened my arms to her and wrapped her in a tight hug. She took a step back, obviously startled by how hard I'd come onto her.
"Thank you so much Shay." I cried into her shoulder.
"It's okay." She whispered, stroking my hair to try and calm me down.
I let go of her to look for Mike. My eyes scanned over the crowd of nurses until they met an unmistakable mess of hair. He was with a nurse who was shining a small torch into his eyes. I started to walk towards him, but he noticed me and shooed me away with his hand. I looked around and saw Louis wrapping Shay in a blanket. Tears of joy fell from my eyes as I sat down on the grass. I laid down and looked up into the sky. I started to drift to sleep when I felt someone lay next to me. I turned my head to see Niall.
"Niall? W-wh... How did you know where I was?"
He scoffed, "It's all over the news, Samantha."
I nodded, "I'm sorry Niall."
"It's okay babe. It's not your fault."
He lent over and gave me a kiss on the forehead and intertwined our fingers. I heard the sound of something clicking in the distance and lifted my head to see Paul being lifted into an ambulance van on a bed. There were thousands of flashing cameras surrounding the house.
A man who looked like her was in his early twenties and had green scrubs on walked in our direction.
"Are you Samantha Jones?" He asked.
I just nodded.
"Well, you have to come with me and get checked out... I, uh, mean you could be in shock..."
I laughed and rose from the ground. My head started to hurt and everything was dizzy. The nurse held out a hand and helped me up. I gave him a toothless smile and brushed some of the dirt off my jeans. He directed me back into the ambulance van I was in previously and sat me down. It was very dark and extremely cold. I felt every hair on my body raise as a cold wind blew.
"Here." The young nurse said, handing me a blanket.
I smiled and wrapped it around my shoulders. The nurse came back in front of me with a little kit. First, he grabbed out a torch and shone it into my eyes without warning. I flinched back and rubbed my eyes.
"Oh, sorry about that." He laughed.
"It's alright." I smiled, looking back up at him.
"You know, you look awfully young to be a doctor. What's your name?" I asked. I know, it sounded like I saw flirting, but I was genuinely curious. He was very young looking.
He flashed me a slight smile, "Matt. And yeah, I guess you could call me this generations Doogie Howser."
I laughed as he tried for the second time to shine the light in my eyes. This time I blinked, but then got used to it.
"Okay, follow the torch."
I did as he asked until he stopped. He pulled out some instrument that looked like a mini hammer. He put a plastic cap around it and stuck it in my ear until it beeped. He looked at what it read and seemed quite pleased.
"Well Samantha, you seem fine."
"That's good." I smiled.
"But you have to stay here. The police have to get your statement or something like that."
"Okay, so Paul was looking for you?" The police officer asked, looking over a clipboard. It was obvious he was a bit lost with my story, seeing as this was the third time I had gone through it.
They had taken us to the station to get our statements. It was Shay, Louis, Mike, some teenage boy I didn't know and I getting asked questions. Niall drove over here so he could take us home.
"Yes, he found out where I was on the news."
"How on the news?"
"Well, Niall's famous. I'm his girlfriend."
"Ah." He said in realisation. "Thank you for answering the questions, and sorry for wasting your night Samantha."
I looked over at the clock on the wall to see it was midnight. I gave him a half smile and he left. I walked out of the cubicle and into the waiting room to see Niall with his head in his hands. I put my hand on his thigh and his head shot up. When he realised it was me, he put on an obvious fake smile. Niall put his hand over my hand, which was still on his thigh.
"It's okay Samantha. He's gone. He will never hurt you again. No one will. I'll make sure of it."
He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and held me close to his body.
"Okay, you guys are free to go. Thank you for answering all of our questions. We now have a clear idea of what happened."
We had been in the waiting room for about an hour now, waiting for them to let us leave.
"Thank you." I muttered, half asleep.
He gave us a last nod and left.
"Let's go home." Niall smiled.
"I like the sound of that."
