I looked him up and down, noticing his muscled and tattooed build. He was talking to a group of friends when his head turned to my direction and he stopped talking. He held a hand out in front of his friend's face, to stop him from talking any further, and started to walk over to my table. I smirked, feeling my cheeks burn up and hoping he wouldn't notice. As he inched closer to me, I suddenly started to feel nervousness rise through my body. I looked down, fiddling with the straw in my drink. Until a tall figure casted a shadow over me and I couldn't see what I was doing anymore. I looked up, startled to see the man from before. The look on his face was a mix of confidence and cheekiness when he finally spoke,
"Care to dance?"
I looked around, making sure his comment was to me. A dangerous looking guy asking an innocent looking girl like me to dance. I looked back up and he encouraged me by taking out his hand. I left my conversation and took the mans hand. He led me to the dance floor, putting his hands around my waist. Although the song was quite fast, he started to slow dance. I followed his lead by wrapping my hands around his neck and putting my head on his chest. I heard him hum with pleasure. I lifted my head up to see closed eyes and a wide smile.
"Hayley." I whispered.
He looked down to my face, his nose inches away from mine, "Harry."
I looked down and smiled to myself. His british accent was soothing and raspy. We danced for the rest of the song in each others arms. When the song came to a stop, he grabbed my wrist, tugging me towards a quiet space under a tree.
I grabbed the rectangle devise from my pocket and handed it to him. He took a photo of himself and wrote a few things in there before giving it back to me. Something grabbed his attention from behind me and he walked away, giving me a quick brush of his lips on my cheek and a wink. As he walked off, I put my hand over my cheek, feeling if it was real. I actually pinched myself, and when I didn't wake up, I knew it had to be true. I laughed at myself, looking through my phone to see what he did. His number was saved there under 'Haz x.' I couldn't help but laugh. He texted himself through my phone. I'm guessing he wanted my number too. My attention was brought back to the party when I heard my name being called.
"Hayley! Come have a drink with us!"
I ran over to the boy calling my name and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
"I've missed you Niall."
"I've missed you too Hayley."
We sat down at a near by table, drinks in hand.
"So, what has my little Hayls been up to?"
"Nothing much Ny."
"I've been gone for five years. Something must have happened?"
He gave me a playful shove and took a sip of his drink.
"Yeah, she's doing good. She really misses you Ny."
He sighed, "You know it wasn't my choice to move to Australia."
I nodded understandingly.
"What about Claire? How's she doing?"
"Good, I guess. I don't live with mum anymore."
"Yeah, that's right. You're a big girl now. It's so weird, seeing you drink."
"How old are you now Ny? A hundred?"
He chuckled to himself. I missed that laugh so much. It brought back memories. Of us on the swing set at my childhood home, playing xbox together, being in a relationship...
I stopped my train of thought. That would only bring back bad memories.
"How about boys? You got a boyfriend yet?"
I smiled, thinking of the events that occurred earlier, but I shook my head, "Nope. You?"
"I had one Australian girl, Paige. But as we both know from experience, long distance doesn't work too well." He chugged down his drink, obviously trying to forget about the girl.
"Does that mean you two broke up recently?"
He nodded, swishing around the tiny remainder of his drink. A new song started and his head shot up.
"I love this song! Wanna dance?"
I nodded, running over to the dance floor and playfully doing horrible dance moves. I felt a buzz in my pocket and was happy to see Harry's name flash up.
From: Haz x
Great dance moves. I'm a little jealous of the blond fella across from you who gets to watch you x
I laughed to myself as I started to answer.
"No one." I lied.
"I can tell by your smile and blushed cheeks it is someone. A boy?"
I shook my head.
"I've known you for years Hayls. You can't lie to me."
He snatched the phone from me, holding it above him. My small height gave me a disadvantage as his tall frame towered over me. He started to walk off, out of the crowded area into a dark and empty area.
"Hey! Give it back!"
I laughed, "He's just a guy."
My phone buzzed and I felt my cheeks heat up.
"He wants to take you out tomorrow night. Wear something nice." He handed the phone back to me and winked. I read the text, not believing what Niall told me. But it was true.
From: Haz x
I want to take you out tomorrow night. Wear something nice x
"So, is he your boyfriend?"
"No, I just met him here tonight. We danced for a while, nothing much."
He nodded, "I'm getting another drink. You want one?"
Niall and I were stopped when we felt arms wrap around our shoulders.
"Look at you guys! Talking like it's high school. Remember, my room is off limits. If you two are going to do it, I suggest my sister's room."
"Louis! Happy birthday mate." I wrapped my arms around his neck. It was obvious he was drunk, his full weight was leaning against my body.
"Yeah. I'm twenty-two now. Bow down bitches!"
Niall's familiar laugh echoed through the back yard as they hugged each other. Niall would always laugh at what Louis would have to say. No matter what.
"How 'bout we sit down? Have a mini reunion." Louis suggested, pointing over to a nearby table.
"Sure. I'm going to grab some drinks."
I left Louis and Niall to talk for a little while, grabbing us all drinks. Louis and Niall were my childhood best friends. We have all known each other since we were in nappies. Louis obviously being the oldest, then Niall and then me. I was like a little sister to them. My thoughts were brought back to the present when I felt strong arms wrap around my lower waist. My eyes widened as I turned. It was Harry. He looked quite drunk.
"Harry, let go."
"No, I want to show you to my friends."
He started to nuzzle his face in the crease of my neck and I pulled away.
"Come on Harry, I'll take you home."
"I like the sound of that."
I rolled my eyes and grabbed his wrist, pulling him out of the crowd.
"Did you drive here?"
"Yeah, my car's just over there."
I was surprised to see he had pointed towards an Audi. He handed me the keys, stumbling a bit. I wrapped his arm around my shoulder so I could support him.
"You didn't have to do that you know."
"Well I don't want you to crash and die."
He unlocked the front door to his apartment. It was obvious he had a roommate, an extra car parked in the drive way and the apartment was too big for just one guy.
"I'm going to get you some water. Where are your cups?"
"Just down there."
He sat at his dining table, playing with his thumbs and hanging his head low. I couldn't help but smile to myself. He was so gorgeous.
I sat down next to him, rubbing his back as he looked at me and drank.
"Thank you Hayley."
"It's no problem."
He grabbed my hand as he put his head down again. Within seconds he was asleep.
After half an hour of sitting there waiting for Harry to be properly asleep, I stood up to notice someone else walking through the front door. It must've been Harry's roommate. I made my way into the lounge room to see a guy around Harry's age with dark hair, gelled back into a quiff and a sleeve of tattoos.
"Hi." I shyly waved. At first he didn't notice me, turning to lock the front door. I cleared my throat and he jumped back in fright, looking at me. His eyes widened, clearly surprised to see a girl standing here rather than his roommate. I gave a slight smile.
"Shit, uh, hi. Who are you?"
"My name is Hayley."
"Are you fleeing from Harry?" He laughed to himself.
"What? No. I um... I helped him get home. He was drunk and he fell asleep on the kitchen table." I started to walk towards the door and get out when I felt a hand grab my shoulder. I looked back to see Harry's roommate with a hand out. I shook it and started to leave.
"Zayn!" He called as I left. I'm guessing that was his name. I turned a little and gave him a smile, walking down the road so it looked like I knew where I was going. I turned to see Zayn had closed the door, so I got my phone out.
"Hey, where'd you get to?" Niall drunkly slurred into the phone.
"I had to drop a friend off. He was drunk..."
"Where are you? I'll come pick you up."
"Nah, I think I'll just get a cab. Is the party still going?"
"It's died down a little, but you should come back and catch up with everyone. Liam just arrived."
I jumped in excitement. Liam was literally like a brother to me. He was always giving me advise and I missed him so much.
"I'll be there in ten."
The cab driver sped off as I gave him a last wave. I went home before that, getting changed into something more comfortable. I didn't mind what I looked like in front of Liam, Louis and Niall. I walked through the all-too-familar gate to the back yard where I saw all the guys around a little bonfire Louis created.
"Hayley!" Liam yelled whilst running towards me.
I burst out into laughter as he picked me up, gave me a hug and threw me over his shoulder.
"It's just like old times." I smiled as he sat me on his old chair, going inside and grabbing his own.
I observed Louis. He had a cup of water and his head in his hands, obviously trying to get sober.
I laughed, "You alright Lou?"
He looked up and gave me the middle finger and I laughed.
"So, Niall, tell me about Paige."
Louis's and Liam's head shot up.
"She's just this girl... We still talk but we broke up because I came back here. I guess every time I move, I lose a girl."
He glanced over to me and I looked over to Liam, trying to ignore the beautiful blue puppy dog eyes Niall had.
"So, Liam, what's going on with you?"
"You know what? Honestly nothing. Nothing really interesting has happened to me in the five odd years we've been apart. My life is definitely more interesting with you guys in it. I missed you all so much."
"Aw, Liam." Louis joked.
We all laughed and we ended up talking like it was old times again.
