Here's the imagine you requested. I was feeling a bit of the holiday spirit... Hope you like it!
I walked down the rows endlessly, searching for that perfect tree. It was two weeks before Christmas, and I was supposed to picking out a Christmas tree with my best friend and roommate Alli, but she had cancelled on me for the third time and I was growing impatient. I wanted to actually enjoy the thing before we had to take it down! So here I was on a chilly Saturday night, bundled up in my hat, coat? and scarf, looking for a tree.
After about 20 minutes of browsing, I finally found the perfect little Christmas tree. It was only about 3 feet tall and skinny, but my apartment was tiny and wouldn't fit anything much bigger. I dragged it up to the front register, so that I could pay for it. The line was ridiculously long, so I had to wait for a while. Hoping to kill some time, I glanced around at the other tree-buyers that were on line to pay. There was a family with three little kids, an older couple, some teenagers... people of all ages. As I went to look forward again, I noticed a guy in a dark blue coat looking at me. When I made eye contact with him he promptly looked away. I knew that face. But from where? He was about medium height, with blue eyes. I couldn't see his hair, because he was wearing a hat and scarf. Maybe I had seen him one of Alli's parties or something. Huh.
As it was my turn to pay for my tree and have it wrapped, I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was looking at me. I didn't want to seem weird though and look around, so I went on with my business and dragged my tree to my car.
Tying the thing to the top of my car was harder than expected. First of all, I was having trouble even getting it on the roof by myself, with its bulky shape and size.
"C'mon, tree. Just. Get. On. Here." I grunted. "I'm cold and I want to go home."
"Maybe I can help," a voice said from behind me.
I turned to face the guy in the blue coat. "With the tree, I mean," he added.
"Umm, sure. Thanks." I was a bit caught off-guard by this attractive stranger.
"We can just lift it on three, one, two, three." We hoisted the tree on top of the car. He pulled out some rope and began securing it to the car. I watched in silence as he worked. Within three minutes, my Christmas tree was tied down tight.
"There," he said, brushing off his hands. "All set."
"Thank you so much!" I told him. "I would have been here all night if it wasn't for you."
"No problem at all." I noticed his cheeks were slightly red. I wasn't sure if he was blushing, or if the cold and wind were the cause.
"I hope you have a very Merry Christmas."
"Thank you! You too," he replied with a smile as he walked away. I was about to get in my car when he turned on his heels and came back over.
"I know this is kind of random, but I'm really bad at this. I'm Niall, by the way." He held out his hand for me to shake. That was it! He was Niall Horan from One Direction! I didn't want to seem overly fangirly though, so I played it cool.
"Nice to meet you, Niall! I'm Madi." I shook his hand.
"Hi, Madi! I was wondering if you would like to go, err, get some... hot chocolate? I know you said you were cold..."
I kind of giggled out loud. He was so cute. "Sure. I'd love to."
"Sorry. I sound like an idiot. But really?"
"Yeah. Want to meet at the diner in 10 minutes?"
"Definitely! See you then." I watched him scamper off to his SUV across the parking lot. I didn't normally go out with guys 10 minutes after I met them, but Niall just seemed so sweet. Plus, he was Niall Freakin' Horan!
I pulled up in front of the diner and went inside. Niall was already seated at a booth in the back corner. Without his hat and scarf on, he was totally recognizable. He stood when I walked over. Geez. He was a gentleman.
"Hi," I squeaked as I sat down across from him.
"Hi," he replied with a grin.
"I hope that this isn't a total conversation killer, but I'm a big fan of 1D."
"Oh, awesome. I wasn't sure if you recognized me." His tone suggested he was slightly disappointed. He probably thought that was why I agreed to go out with him.
"But don't get me wrong! That's not why I'm here. I didn't even know who you were until you said your name. Your hat and scarf disguised you."
"Oh," he chuckled.
"Yeah. I mean, I think you're really sweet and cute... Gosh I just screwed this up a lot."
"No you didn't," he laughed as his cheeks turned bright red. "I believe you."
"Thanks... So..." I myself was really bad at first dates. Was this a date? I wasn't even sure.
"So why did you get your tree all by yourself? That doesn't seem too fun."
"I could ask you the same thing," I replied, chuckling. "My roommate couldn't come, so I went shopping by myself."
"Ah, I see. Focused and determined," he joked. "I live by myself, so I didn't want to bother anyone."
"Oh... But you have family to spend the holidays with, right?"
"Oh yeah, lots of people to have a laugh with. What about you?"
"Yeah I do... My family lives kind of far away, but I'll see them for Christmas."
"That's good." Just then, a waitress brought two steaming mugs of hot chocolate and a plate of chocolate chip cookies.
"I ordered for both of us... I hope you don't mind."
"Not at all. That was so nice of you!" I stirred my drink.
"No problem." I watched as Niall devoured three cookies in less than a minute.
"Sorry," he blushed when he saw me looking.
"I don't mind," I laughed. "Just save one for me."
We sat there in the diner, just talking and laughing for a while. Niall seemed like a genuinely nice guy- as a fan, I knew he was sweet but talking to him made me fall for him even more. His eyes lit up when he spoke, and he really loved telling me about his little nephew and his family. We were having such a good time that I didn't even realize we had been there for two hours until I looked at my watch.
"This has been so much fun, Niall. I hope we get to do it again." I reeeeeeeally didn't want to leave, but I was afraid someone would steal my Christmas tree from my car.
"Oh, wow, it is late, isn't it... I should probably go home and set my tree up." Niall replied. He seemed kind of disappointed that I was leaving.
I flagged down the waitress and asked for the check. When she brought it over, I opened my wallet to grab my credit card. Niall snatched the bill before I could pay, though.
"What do you think you're doing? I'm paying," Niall said.
"I can get it. To thank you for your help with my tree."
"Don't be silly. I was just being a gentleman."
"Not many guys are gentlemen anymore, so your manners are extra-appreciated." I grinned. He was so honest.
"I hope I get to see you again," Niall replied as we stood to put on our coats. I noticed his phone on the table and picked it up.
"Do you mind?" I asked him.
He shook his head. I opened his contacts and added my number.
"There ya go," I handed him his iPhone.
"Thanks. And thanks for a great night, Madi."
He walked me out to my car. "Bye."
I watched him get into his SUV as I sat behind the wheel. He still looked kind of sad.
What the heck. I didn't have anywhere to be tonight.
"Wait!" I called as I bolted out of my car and over to his before he pulled out of the lot.
When he saw me, he immediately rolled down the window.
"What's the matter?"
"Do you want some help with decorating your tree? I don't want you to have to do it all by yourself..."
Niall's face lit up. "I'd love for you to help!"
Twenty minutes later, I was helping Niall carry his tree into the living room of his apartment. Unlike my little tiny one, Niall's tree was 12 feet tall for the high ceiling of his penthouse.
There was a box labeled Christmas in the corner. I opened it up while Niall set up the stand for the tree.
I pulled out the ornaments and began untangling the bunches of lights.
"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmasssss," Niall started singing. Before long, we were both belting out a Capella Christmas carols.
I had so much fun with him. It felt like Christmas for once-just decorating and relaxing.
"I really like you, Madi."
"I like you too, Niall."
He reached out and ran his fingers through my blonde hair. His touch was electric. His lips looked so kissable...
I suddenly realized that Niall was holding something up with his right hand. I looked up and saw a bundle of mistletoe.
His cheeks turned bright red.
I didn't even have to think about it. I leaned in and kissed him on the lips.
And he kissed right back.
Let me know what you think! Sorry if it was more like the first chapter of a fanfic than an imagine... Feedback is greatly appreciated! :)
