Norie.." My blood boils at the sight of him. He places a hand on the side of the wall blocking me from entering. The one time Harry doesn't follow me, Alex has to be here.
"What are you doing here?" I snap.
"Dropping off your friend." He turns enough for me to see her lying on the bed, still in yesterdays clothes.
"Why didn't she answer her phone?" He shrugs and lets me past. "You can go now." I tell him going to Emma's side.
"No 'thank-you'?" I shake my head and point towards the door.
"Go." He ignores me and sits down on my bed.
"So, I'm throwing another party tonight, interested?" I squint at him and he smirks.
"Can you go?" I tug the pony from her hair and lay her hair around her neck. "Em!" She groans and turns grabbing my hands.
"Norie, I've missed you." She slurs. Is she still drunk? What has he done to her? "Everything hurts." she whines. "I need drugs!"
"Em." She turns and buries her face in her pillow.
"Aspirin, now!" I snap my head to look at Alex who is smiling and sprawled across my bed. "Norie!" I rush to the bathroom and find a aspirin bottle with two pills left inside. The box of tampons she bought yesterday is thrown across the floor. I really hope she didn't try to put one of those in in her state. Before I go back out there I text Harry.
Harry you need to come pronto!
I slip back into the room and give her the pills.
"You should go." I say for the fifth time. I'm not sure if he's intimidated by Harry but maybe he'll go just to avoid confrontation.
"I said I'm fine." I sit next to her and take the bottle of water from her night stand and hand it to her.
"I love you." she sighs as she cradles my hand in hers and buries her face back into her pillow. I gaze down at my phone. No texts from Harry yet and it's almost time for me to go to work, I don't want to leave her here she might burn the place down. I'll have to cancel for today to take care of her.
"Emma, get some sleep." I whisper getting up to grab a movie from the rack. I was kind of excited to relax but now nothing about this situation is making me feel anymore calm than I was last night. I still have annotations to do for American lit and I have to call in and cancel.
"I have to tell you, last night really did something for me." I glare at him and wait to hear Harry's thudding on the door. Silence. Where is he?
"Are you still mad at me?" He can not be serious right now.
"Yes of course." I tell him.
"Norie. there's no reason to be so mad. Everybody's happy and smiling."
"What did you give her?" I say finally standing. "Why is she like that?"
"She wanted to have a little more fun so...I gave some acid. She coming down from it now." I grow wide eyed and fist the fabric of my sweatshirt, feeling my nails pierce through the fabric and my skin.
"You gave her acid!? Are you insane? You could have killed her!"
"Oh calm down." He says. I'm beyond angry at this point! I am livid and want to smack him so badly. How dare he? What is his problem?
"I won't calm down! She could have OD-ed or done something incredibly stupid. Someone could have done something to her and all you can do is smile?"
"Don't worry buttercup, her hymen is perfectly intact." I jump at him, scratching, screaming, hitting. An arm loops around my waist and I'm pulled back with my legs still kicking fiercely. Harry's hands are on my wrist.
"What the fuck is going on? Why are you here?" He says directing his question to Alex. I heave still fuming, as I take in a deep scratch on his cheek. I wish I would have done more.
"He gave Emma acid." I breath.
"Of course he did."
"You're fucking crazy." He spits and pushes himself up from the bed. I see him lock gaze with Harry and he leaves.
"What the fuck." Harry yells. I pull away from him and turn.
"I hate him."
"Everyone does." He smiles.
"Stop smiling. Where were you?"
"On my way here. I got you're text, is that why you wanted me?" I nod and bite my lip still replaying his words.
"He drugged her! That bastard drugged her! I'm calling the police." He quickly takes the phone from me and raises it above his head.
"Harry! Give it back."
"I can't let you call the police."
"Harry!" He turns and sits it on the top of my book shelf. "Harry!"
"I'm helping you."
"No you're not-"
"Yes I am." He grabs my wrist and holds them in his hands so he can speak. "You don't want to do that, not with Alex. He has too many people out here that will hurt you, Norie and I don't want to end up in jail.. pipe down." I breath in and out. In and out. Calm down, Norie. You're okay. Smile. She's here and she's safe.
"Wait, why would you go to jail?" I ask.
"You know why." He tells me. I smile and turn. I'm pretty sure he'd be the one to handle the drama instead of me and I don't want to see him get beaten again. I wrap my arms around his abdomen and squeeze. I place my head on his chest and breath. Cigarettes and mint.
"Thanks." Startled he places his hand on my back and the other on the side of my head and rest it there.
"It's no problem." I pull away and run my fingers through my hair, pressing play on the DVD.
I was gonna watch a movie and-"
"Emma!" A male voice booms as a man in sweats waltz in. "Where is she?" His head turns to her sleeping on her bed.
"Has she been here all day." I look to Harry who shrugs.
"Yeah." I lie. I don't want her to get into any unnecessary trouble.
"Where is her phone?"
"Did you check her pocket?" Harry chimes. I nudge his shoulder. He digs in her pockets and tries to wake her up.
"What's wrong with her?" I swallow. Oh God! What do I say? Oh I let your daughter get drugged. I am the person to blame for this, if only I said no.
"Well..." He turns to face us.
"She's high." Harry tells him.
"Well were you going to say it?" No.
"What do you mean?"
"She went to a party and got-high. H-I-G-H." He looks from us to her in disbelief.
"She can't hear you." he lifts her and grabs her bag from the bed.
"I knew this was a bad idea. She will be transferring."
"He says and rushes out of the room. I debate whether to call after him and my instinct takes over.
"Norie!" Harry calls.
"Wait." I say as he carry's her away. "You should at least let her come to so she can make the decision."
"Absolutely not. She wouldn't have this problem. You know that. It's your fault. You're parents obviously didn't raise you right." I stumble back as he turns and continues walking. Harry comes to my side and grabs me in his arms, something I would usually push away.
"It's okay." That isn't the problem. I don't care that she is leaving, well I do. She's my only friend but the fact that he thinks it's my fault and I would let that happen to her makes my stomach hurt. I would never.
He closes my door and pulls my hand into his.
"Come on. I want to show you something.
