Okay, let me start off by saying regretfully that before I read it, I thought it would suck.
And let me continue by saying when I read it, this was me:
"WHAT THE HECK? HOW DARE SOMEONE WRITE BETTER THAN ME! CURSE YOU!".
I like writing about (what I find to be after reading the books over) two dimensional characters with no original personalities, and this girl goes right ahead and writes...THIS???
So, if you couldn't catch on to my fan-girling there, I like the book. That doesn't mean there aren't any flaws, though.
For one, there a wee bit too many simple sentences. If every line in a book look like this:
I laughed. I walked over to her. I sat down. I talked with her. She laughed.
Okay, that's NOT what Raven717 is doing, but there are too many
"I Laughed."s, so compound and complex sentences are needed more.
For two, something that might only bug me, Ariel acts a lot like a dog. For instance,
"Hi Emma!" Ariel squeals, bounding towards me.
Humans don't bound. Sorry, they just don't.
Aside from this, I still really like the book, and it you like the sound of it, go check it out!
