Sofia woke, feeling completely at peace. Bright lights surrounded her, and she heard voices. She opened her eyes and sat up.
Professor Dumbledore was talking to Madam Pomfrey were talking at the foot of a the bed she way lying on in the hospital wing.
"Ah, Miss Adema, I'm glad to see you awake," Dumbledore said.
"What happened?" Sofia asked.
"Voldemort nearly killed you, and Harry as well. Had it not been for your father, you would not be sitting her right now."
"Harry? Is he okay? What about Neville, and Hermione-"
Dumbledore cut her off.
"They are all fine, thanks to you. Had it not been for your interference, many more lives may have been lost."
"Many more? Professor, what happened?"
Dumbledore turned to Madam Pomfrey, who nodded and left the hospital wing silently.
"Sirius was killed," Dumbledore said when she was gone.
"Sirius? So Voldemort really did have him then?"
Dumbledore raised a hand to silence her.
"Please, Miss Adema, let me speak."
Sofia nodded and looked at him gravely.
"Voldemort never had Sirius. After you helped him discover the connection between his mind and Harry's, he knew he could use it to his advantage. So, he placed a false image of him torturing Sirius to lure Harry to the ministry so that Harry would retrieve the prophecy. Once their, Lucius Malfoy was supposed to get the prophecy from Harry and capture Harry so that Voldemort could kill him. They were supposed to take Harry and the prophecy to him, but when you showed up, the Death Eaters had to call Voldemort."
Sofia looked away from him, unable to meet his clear blue eyes. She must know her secret now.
"Yes, Miss Adema, I know your family curse. I had suspected something for a long time, since before you were born, but now I know the truth. Anyway, members of the Order heard about Voldemort's trap to lure Harry to the ministry. They went at once, Sirius included. There was no way he would stay behind while his godson was in danger. Bellatrix killed him."
Sofia opened her mouth to speak but Dumbledore beat her to it.
"Yes, they are cousins. They've always hated each other though, just as Sirius hated most of his family."
Dumbledore paused, and Sofia let his words sink in for a moment before he continued.
"When Voldemort arrived at the Ministry, he was waiting in the lobby for Harry. He knew that Harry would come up, because he was chasing Bellatrix. You showed up first though, and in his rage at you, he performed the Cruciatus curse like no one has ever performed it before. He wanted you to suffer for your betrayal. He wanted you to die. The pain he forced upon your body should have killed you. But you see, there is such powerful magic in your blood that those who share your blood can often feel distress in each other. Your father sensed it and performed the most powerful magic I have ever seen. He detached his spirit from his body and entered your mind, where he worked from within to block the pain of the curse. He was able to pull your physical senses away from Voldemort's grasp. Without that, you would have died."
"My brothers!" Sofia exclaimed. "Are they okay?"
Dumbledore smiled softly.
"They are fine. Your parents took them into hiding. They will be quite alright. The enchantments that were used cannot even be broken by the curse that binds your family to Voldemort's service."
"Sir, do the others know? About my family, I mean."
Dumbledore shook his head.
"No, but they are suspicious as to why you were at the ministry. They are thankful for your help, but suspicious."
"Thank you, Sir."
"Rest now. The magic your father performed will bring peace to all of your senses when you sleep. You will be unable to dream, unable to feel, unable to be afraid."
He left the hospital wing quietly, leaving Sofia alone in silence. She laid her head back on to her pillow, shut her eyes, and was asleep instantly.
A few days later, Sofia returned to the common room. It was the final day before students left. When Sofia walked into the common room, everyone was at the end of year feast. Everyone except Harry.
"How are you, Harry?" Sofia asked nervously when she saw him. She had not seen any of the six since she had awoken in the hospital wing.
"How did you get there?"
Sofia had been expecting the question.
"Harry, what you have to understand is that my family is not a normal wizarding family. Our blood is ancient and filled with magic you cannot begin to understand."
"How did you get there?" He repeated.
Sofia sighed deeply, and then transformed. Harry stared at the white wolf in front of him until she transformed back again.
"So you are an Animagi?" He asked.
"Not exactly. Animagi have to teach themselves the ability to transform. Members of my family are born with it."
"Why though?" He challenged.
"So that we can reach our masters when summoned."
"What do you mean by your masters?"
Sofia had been dreading this, but she had to get it out. It was better for him to know that anything she said to him she could not keep a secret, no matter how much she wanted to.
"Thousands of years ago, my family was something of wizard royalty. We ruled everything because of our money and our power. We ruled peacefully for the most part and were very fair. But there were still some wizards and witches who felt that our role in life was unfair. There were four in particular, and these four joined together to bring down the head of our family. You see, not one person alive then could have defeated my ancestor. He was too powerful. But together, the other four most powerful wizards and witches alive were enough to harness his power. They could not take it from him though. Instead, they bound him to their service, binding his blood to serve their blood. From then on, my ancestors have been forced to serve the ancestors of the four. No matter how much you do not want to do something, once they order you to do it, you have no other choice."
"Who were these four?" Harry asked.
"They were the four founders of Hogwarts."
Harry stared at her, his mouth open in shock.
"Yes, Harry, I am bound by my blood to serve the heirs of Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, and Salazar Slytherin. And yes, all known heirs of all four have died out except for one."
Harry glared at her.
"All this time, I trusted you! And now it turns out you were just Voldemort's pet, betraying me to him!"
"No Harry, I did everything I could to protect you. Had it not been for me following you to the ministry that night, Ron and Hermione would be dead. Others might be too. And i paid a heavy price for it. For your information, Voldemort pretty much killed me. I should be dead right now!"
Harry looked at her apologetically.
"I'm sorry. I am so thankful for that, but you should have told me. You shouldn't have let yourself around me when you could hear important information."
"I didn't have a choice, Harry. He forced me. Before term started, he ordered me to get close to you, to create havoc for you at Hogwarts so Dumbledore would be removed. I fought and fought against it, but this is something that the most powerful wizards and witches in history have been fighting for centuries. If they could not break it, there was no way I could either."
Harry looked at her, then looked away.
"I'm sorry Harry."
He didn't say anything for a moment.
"What happens if the last of the heirs you have to serve dies?"
"I suppose the curse does as well."
Harry looked back at her.
"Well, just so you know, either Voldemort or I has to kill each other, so it's safe to say that I'll free you or die trying."
