Halloween Spooks (short story)

We walked in to a dark dusty black room, which looked kind of like a dining room. The table, in the middle of the room, was set out for six, with a skeleton in one of them. I went up to it and looked at it closely. Then I saw a piece of scrummed up paper in his hand. I went to reach out and grab it, when a crash of thunder and lightning came from outside. 1. HALLOWEEN SPOOKS

Isabella, Sasha, Pandora and I were walking back from the cinema, when we came across an old angry looking house. Sasha ran up to it and knocked on the door, expecting someone to answer but no one did. So she pushed the door open. We ran up to her and followed her into a dark and gloomy corridor. We walked together, holding each other’s hand. Then all of a sudden Isabella screamed as loud as a lion. We all turned in fear at her, looking at her inventively. I asked her “why did you scream?” She answered “No I saw a spider, but it was massive I swear” We all believed her of course, but that just made us all more freaked out.

We walked in to a dark dusty black room, which looked kind of like a dining room. The table, in the middle of the room, was set out for six, with a skeleton in one of them. It was all covered in dust and dead bugs, me and the others shivered as we looked at it. I went up to the skeleton and looked at it closely. I saw a piece of scrummed up paper in his hand. I went to reach out and grab it, when a crash of thunder and lightning came from outside. We ran to the window and stared but there was nothing there, it was actually quite bright out. We all turned around and saw that the skeleton had gone. We all screamed in horror and looked around for the old boney skeleton. When then I spotted it, it was there sitting on the broken stairs motionless. But how did he get there he was a skeleton for Christ`s sake, I thought to myself. There was another crash of thunder and we all turned around again and the skeleton was back at the table on the chair. We all ran out of the room, scared out of our wits. We found ourselves in the kitchen, all of a sudden flash backs hit our heads like bullets, the pain so overwhelming it made us fall to the floor- people dying, being stabbed. But something was wet beneath my hands, I looked in the dim light and saw blood, the red substance that had once been inside someone’s body.

After a while we got bored of this old haunted house, but when we tried to find the door, but we couldn’t. We looked for what like hours, but we never did find it. We decided to check upstairs, I was first up the blood stained stairs. But what I saw was totally unexpected, there was a trap door covered in pad locks, chains and KEEP OUT on it, in blood.

I held in the scream and looked around for the key (I thought it might have been a way out), but it was nowhere to be seen. I called to the other to come and have a look atit.  But no one came. I went down the broken stairs, to find a truly horrific sight…… I saw all of my friends, on the floor, playing chess with mini skulls! I said “what in the world are you doing?” they answered “well we found this under the stairs, with this old key”. I replied “that’s the key! That is it!” I snatched it from them and ran up the stairs. I sat on my knees, took the big old rusty padlock in my hand, and heard it click as I finished unlocking it.

We all peered in the deep dark long hole that had been revealed. We saw pitch black nothing-ness. Wow, we were shocked, to just see nothing; we were expecting a giant grizzly crocodile or something like that. Pandora was the one to come up with the crazy idea of someone volunteering jump in it to see what could be down there. Like always Sasha said she would do it. Not being bothered to argue with her now, we all looked around for a rope, or maybe a very long string. Pandora found a really long all most broken twig, Isabella found an old piece of ribbon, Sasha found nothing and I found a long battered rope. We all agreed to use my rope, I remember being very proud of that. We tied the rope around Sasha and lowered her into the pitch black hole.

“Hey! What`s down there?” I asked. There was no reply. I asked again, louder.  She replied “I can’t really tell! It`s too dark for me to see anything!”

After a while we heard a loud thump, we all ran towards the hole, worried. I felt tension, lots of it, and my concerned heart pounding for my best friend. I was the first one to shout to Sasha “Sasha, Sasha, are you alright? What’s happening?!” she replied “nothing the rope just snapped, is there a torch anywhere I can`t see a thing?” “No I can`t really see one, oh wait what`s that, a candle. Sasha, will a candle and a match do?” spoke Pandora. “Yeah, of course what else would I get? A movie theatre.” Sasha said sarcastically.  “Guys this is no time to mess around, we need to work out how to get this candle lit and down to Sasha. Has anybody got any ideas? No didn`t think so!!!!!!!!!!” Moaned Isabella, Isabella isn`t very good in situations like this if you haven`t realised yet. “Oh, I think I know what to do” Pandora shouted out. “What, what?” Isabella screamed. “Oh, wait I lost it!” “Wait why don`t you just pass it down carefully, it’s as easy as pie guys!” Said Sasha “Oh shut up” We all yelled down the hole. Sasha giggled. We all did. All of a sudden Sasha`s giggling stopped. We all peered into the deep dark hole. To see no light from the candle we had thrown down to Sasha. We were very worried about her; she was gone, not in our sight. We were very worried so Pandora and I yelled down the hole, “Sasha, Sasha! Are you there? Where have you gone? We`re worried about you… answer, please answer.” There was no reply, so we asked the same thing again. There was still no reply. So I without any other actions jumped down the hole after one of my best friends.

When I got in the hole I was alone. The air was cold and murky, nearly like fog. I shouted her name, twice, there was no reply. I asked the others to send down a match to light the candle, there was no reply. So I decided to just carry on alone in the foggy darkness.

I`d been walking for a while now when I came across a cross road, as some may call it. I looked right, saw nothing but darkness, again, and I looked left to see a little bit of light, I ran off into the right tunnel, surprisingly. I knew the left tunnel, with the light, would have been a trap. I found nothing; at least I knew I was safe. But that’s only what I thought; in the corner was an old raggedy string puppet. I did not see at first, because I was looking for the door not the puppet. I`d just found a small hole that I think I could just about fit through, when something`s hand appeared on my shoulder, but I didn’t dear scream, it might of awakened something monstrous. I scrapped the small hand off my shoulder and ran for the hole. But when I got there I could not fit through it. I twisted and shaked from side to side, but I could only fit my head through. I turned round to see if anything was coming. I saw the puppet dragging it`s self across the floor towards me. I nearly screamed but I covered my mouth. Then at the last split second I broke the edges of the hole and wiggled through it, I`d just managed to escape the evil little puppet. I now found myself in a bright room full of flowers; this room did not look as scary as the last one with the puppet. I was thinking there was probably a creature in this one too. But there wasn`t, surprisingly. I walked through the room, unharmed, to a massive hole on the other side of the room. I walked to find myself not in a room but outside, quite near my house. I ran fast back to get the others. We all jumped down the hole, again and ran through the rooms I did. When we reached the outside we all cheered and hugged each other. But Sasha was not here. But we dared not to go back in.

For years and years we often thought of Sasha and where she`d be. But we`d never go back in. Our story was big in the newspapers, even though it took us a lot of explaining to get everybody to believe the truth, but they did in the end. We think of Sasha and hope she`s well.
