Christmas Day. It had come. It was an awfully strange feeling when Loki was pushed through the door of his room still half asleep and made to wear a little paper crown from a cracker the two had pulled. He looked at the tiny tree and the gifts underneath it. One he knew the contents of the other intrigued him greatly. Scarlett thrust it at him as he sat on the floor.
"Go on open it!" She practically yelled from excitement. It was a small gift, flexible and odd feeling. It was a ring like shape. Loki unwrapped it.
It was a cat's collar. Similar to Seb's only it was blue not red and the little metal tag had no words on it.
Scarlett started to giggle.
"What?" Loki asked as he tied it round his wrist. He waved it in her face making her laugh even more.
"It's not for you to wear." Then she ran off to her room. When she came back, she had her hands behind her back. Loki tried to read her but couldn't.
Then she brought her hands round to the front of her.
There, in her hands was a beautiful white baby cat. The young prince latched onto it immediately, and as Scarlett came over and passed it to him, he knew then that this was the best present he could ever receive.
The tiny cat began playing with the collar around Loki's wrist, and he quickly took it off and tied it around the neck of the creature.
"Merry Christmas," Scarlett whispered.
"Tell me everything about it," he whispered back.
"Well, it's a he. Unnamed. And a young kitten-"
"No, he's a cat," Loki disagreed, lifting the cat up to his face to look it in the eye. If cats could laugh...
"A kitten is a baby cat, Loki."
"I love him."
That was the first time the god had claimed to love something in a very very long time. Scarlett and Loki were both grinning and the latter was getting quite caught up in the moment. The tiny kitten, who was absolutely exhausted, settled down in Loki's lap for a sleep.
He snapped back to reality and looked at the redhead in front of him.
"What are you going to call him?" She asked. Loki looked at the sleeping fluff ball and thought.
"Oscar," he declared after about two minutes. The kitten looked up groggily at the name, making the adults both laugh.
"I think that works for him," Scarlett agreed. Seb then came over to inspect the new animal and also rested in Loki's lap in a way to show approval. Loki sighed.
Scarlett was about the open her present but the man stopped her by snatching it back.
"Hey! What are you doing?"
"You can't have this now."
"Huh? Why not?"
"I can't match your gift to me."
"Loki, please. I'm sure I will love it."
Slowly, with eyes closed, Loki returned the gift, nervously he waited for Scarlett to unwrap it.
