Dean sat in the cold room, he had just spent the last hour keeping a straight face. He didn't want to be portrayed as week and get wasted in the beginning of the games. Sitting in room surrounded by furniture brought from the capital Dean thought of Sam and how he might manage alone. Dean wasn't too worried about Sam though, he would be fine as long as he stayed out of the arena. Dean mostly worried about Jo. Dean knew that he and Jo were already at advantage at being raised as hunters but he couldn't help but worry. The peacekeeper opened the door a bit to let someone in. In walked Sam and he went to Dean and sat in front of him. "Dean.."
"Sam, it's fine, I did what I had to do"
"But you didn't have to volunteer! I would have managed fine, we were raised hunters, your not the only one who knows a few things about killing."
"Killing things that deserve to be killed and killing people are two different things Sam."
"I know, but I don't think I can handle watching you die, your all I have"
"You think I wanted to watch you die?"
"That's not what I meant.."
"I know what you meant"
After a few minutes in complete silence, Sam said "You're going to need an ally.."
"Dean, I know you think they will probably waste you the moment you can but you have Jo to trust"
"Sam, only one comes out, so if I choose Jo as an ally, she'll kill me or I her. Or she'll die another way and I'll have to watch that, I wouldn't be able to handle it.."
The spent the next few minutes saying nothing and just waiting for something to happen.
The peacekeeper opened the door and told Sam it was time to leave. Sam slowly left and Dean was alone once more. After a few more minutes of aggravating silence the door opened and to his surprise in walked Ellen Harvelle.
Ellen sat down in front of Dean and after a solid minute of silence she began to speak. "Ok Dean i'll cut to the chase"
Dean sat up ready to here what Ellen had to present "I want you to watch Jo when your in the arena, and in return i'll watch Sam for you"
Dean simply nodded not sure where she was going with this, he planned to form an alliance with Jo anyway even though he was against it. Ellen proceeded to take out something from her pocket, at closer observation Dean noticed it was a pin. The silver pin was a circle with a star in it. "A pentagram" Dean noted.
Ellen nodded "I gave Jo one too, take it as a symbol from your district"
"What like a good luck charm?" Dean chuckled
"Not quite, I have a plan to get you and Jo out of the arena alive"
Ellen simply smiled and left the room leaving Dean alone once more. Dean sat in the room waiting for further instructions from the capital. He never thought the odds were ever in his favour, but Ellen reassured him. In less than a week Dean would be put into an arena and expected to fight to the death, with only a lone victor to serve as a reminder. Dean wasn't sure if he was ready for the challenge ahead of him.
