"Ben?" I whispered
It was 11.30 pm, I was sitting up in my bed holding my phone to my ear. I couldn't sleep, or even think straight, I needed to tell Ben, he needed to know.
"Sammy? What's going on?" He asked on the other side of the phone.
"I need to meet up with you, we need to talk"
"What, now? He sounded confused.
"In the morning, first thing"
" I'll come round in the morning, okay? First thing"
"Okay" I ended the call.
There was no way I could tell Ben over the phone that I was pregnant with his baby. It was sort of a one night stand, even though I'd told myself I'd never be that stupid. We never really spoke about it after that, mainly because we were too busy thinking about Amber, while I was helping her Mom arrange the funeral. A while after Amber's death, her mom and dad had filed for divorce. It was weird because I'd known her parents for so long, and they seemed so in love. But I guess after they lost their only daughter they couldn't cope anymore; they just drifted apart.
I lay in bed trying to think of what I was going to say to Ben. The thought of having to tell him something so important and not knowing how he was going to react was scary. My fingers ran over my stomach, and I wondered what was going on inside my tummy. A little life was growing in there, my little life. Even though my pregnancy came at such a bad time, there was no way I was going to give up my baby. Abortion was not an option for me. I could be a single mom, and that made me so worried. The day before, I'd took a pregnancy test, just to be sure; it was positive. So it was really happening, and I'd never been so afraid.
I woke to a knock on the door. Pulling my dressing gown around me I carefully went down the stairs and stopped at the front door. To the side of the front door was a mirror hanging on the wall. I stared at my reflection, and I didn't recognise myself. My tummy was even bigger, and I just didn't look like me. Another knock at the door startled me, bringing me back to my senses, and I unlocked it to see Ben staring back at me.
"Sammy? What's up? all last night I was so worried about what you need to talk to me about, and I called you back but there was no answer.." He trailed off.
I just led him into the lounge, and pointed to the sofa.
"You need to sit down".
