1. Chapter 1
Jade was sat on her fluffy couch with her headphones on. She was listening to her favorite music, when suddenly there was a knock at the door. She heard her mother get up from her ‘nap’ and rush to the front door. Jade felt entreated and went quietly over to the door to see what was happening. She saw her normal everyday-to-day postman standing outside in the pouring down rain with his spotty yellow rain jacket on. He was handing a grey old looking parcel with her name on it, ‘Jacqueline Debra Williamsbrough’ it was written in an old fashion fancy font, to her mother, who looked dreadful. Jade almost shivered whenever she saw her full name, because it either meant a letter for her brother, Kevin, from the army in Iraq (that just made her think of the horrible times when she’d been sent telegrams from the war office about her brother been missing in action) or her Grandma was trying to get in touch, that always meant smelly biscuits that tasted like socks. Jade always thought it was because her Grandma never liked to follow recipes, ‘be original be your own hero’ she always used to say. She decided she couldn't be bother about asking her mother about it, she would just block Jade out like she always did. She instead asked her mum what they were going to do today. Her mother had answered “oh darling we’re going on a family stroll, OK? So get your purple walking boots on and let’s ago-go!” Jade hated it when her mother said stuff like that she was just trying to be cool, that will never work out Jade thought.
Jade and her family had been walking when they’d passed by Uncle Matthew’s house- his house had an old red front door, with British red bricks surrounding it with two little plant pots either side full of soggy soil-and thought they’d drop in to see if he was alright. You see Uncle Matthew been recovering from a brain tumor and was very weak, the family had been meaning to visit but were always busy. Jade parents then asked Jade politely if she would go up and knock to see if Matthew was in. Jade had agreed and slowly walked up the steep stairs and came to the door she started to knock.
Jade had stood at the door and knocked for what seemed like forever. Eventually Jade, guessing that her uncle was probably in the shower, had walked away and given up. When suddenly something dashed past her, Jade dropped suddenly down to the floor with an extremely loud thump. Jade tried to race to her legs and stand, thinking that she looked like a fool, but as soon as she did a horrible stinging pain shoot down from the top of her thighs to her toe-nails. She squealed and fell back down again, but this time she hit the top of her head on one of the small plant-pots. Jade felt a sudden rush of dizziness as her parents scrambled up the crocked stairs after her. After trying to stand on her feet once again as her surroundings became dark, Jade felt cold hands pick her up and run away with her. Jade suddenly felt faint and the whole world fell into darkness, she could only hear the cries of her parents behind her.
