I sat down next to Caleb’s bed and closed my eyes. It has been a whole week and there was no sign of him waking up soon. Collin, Blaze and I had gone through the security videos of the rank, and it appeared that someone did in fact tried to sabotage Caleb, the only thing left was to find out why and who.
“Esther.” Blaze voice brought me back from my thoughts. “Love.”
“Yes?” I whispered opening my eyes.
“Let’s get you cleaned up okay?” Blaze asked. “Your father is coming in a few hours, and I highly doubt that you want him to see you like this. No offence, but you need a bath.”
“Is Collin or mama George here?” I questioned.
“I’m here.” Collin replied. “Go and refresh.” He added. “I’ll be here for when you come back.”
“Thanks.” I whispered.
Blaze grabbed my hand and helped me out. I said goodbye to Collin and Caleb and walked behind Blaze towards the car that was waiting for us outside. I had called my father yesterday and he was already in his way to come back home, he was going to transfer Caleb to a better hospital, I don’t know where.
“Esther.” Blaze said stopping right in front of me.
“Huh?” I asked confused.
“There are paps outside.” Blaze said and I rolled my eyes. “Put this on.” He added handing me a hoodie and some sunglasses. “Grip to me.”
“Sure.” I replied. “Wasn’t planning on letting go.”
Blaze and I got out of the hospital and into the farm avoiding a whole bunch of paps and reporters, and if you ask me, I still don’t understand what they are doing here. Mike drove us back to the house where I ran towards my bedroom so that I could take a bath. I hadn’t realised how tired and dirty I felt. Whilst I was in the shower, I started to think back about the video that proved the Caleb’s skateboard was wrecked, and it came to me that there was one person who might have done it.
“BLAZE!” I shouted as I walked out of my room. “BLAZE?!”
“KITCHEN!” He shouted back.
I walked towards the kitchen with a plan in mind. I was going to confront Lucas, and get him to confess he fucked up Caleb, for the stupid reason, I believe is: because Caleb was going to win the competition. Blaze was cooking some eggs when I entered. I sat on the counter and let out a sigh. Blaze turned around and gave me a questionable look.
“I’m confronting Lucas today.” I said.
“You what?” Blaze choke.
“I’m speaking with Lucas.” I repeated. “I need for him to confess that he is the one who fucked up and has Caleb in the hospital.”
“You’re not even sure that he’s the one.” Blaze tried to reasoned. “Don’t rush it love.”
“Blaze.” I said. “Do you know how hard it is to sit down and wait when your best friend is laying on a hospital bed with not even a secure future.”
“I don’t Esther.” Blaze said. “But I don’t want to see you do something you’ll regret later.”
I rolled my eyes and jumped down the counter. There was no way that Blaze would let me talk with Lucas. There was only one way that I could get to do that. I had to go to the rank.
“Where are you going?” Blaze asked.
“For a walk.” I lied.
“Should I go with you?” Blaze questioned.
“I want to be alone.” I replied.
I entered the skating area and scanned the area, as I searched for Lucas and his friends. People waved at me, and other turned not to face me, so I assumed that if they did that, they knew why was I here. I saw that Lucas was at the table where Caleb and I used to sit every time we came here. My blood started to boil as I approach to the table. How dare he.
“Lucas.” I said standing right behind him.
“What?” He asked turning around.
“A word.” I smirked as I saw his change in the expression when he found out who was the one talking.
“Fine.” He said standing up. “Speak.”
“In front of your followers?” I questioned.
“They are not my followers, they are my friends.” Lucas explained.
“That follow whatever you say.” I said waving my hand ignoring whatever he was going to say. “Did you know that Caleb George is at the hospital in a coma and they don’t know if he’s going to make it?”
“What?” Lucas exclaimed in shock. “I never- What- Shit. What happened?”
“You never?” I furrowed my eyebrows. “You never what Lucas?”
“What happened?” He questioned.
“You never meant to sent him to the hospital?!” I exclaimed. “You bastard son of a bitch!”
“It wasn’t my intention to leave him like that!” Lucas shouted.
“But you did!” I shouted back. “Your fucking jealousy sent him there!” I slapped his face.
“You didn’t do that.” Lucas hissed.
“Oh I did.” I replied and a fight broke lose.
I was throwing punches towards Lucas, as he was doing the same. Then his friends started to get involved and it was six against one, and so even though I am a girl, I still kept fighting even when I knew this wasn’t going to do anything at all…
“I can’t believe it Esther!” My father exclaimed as he paced in front of my cot. “I can’t believe you went out there and start a fight! What were you thinking?!”
“I wasn’t thinking.” I murmured as I applied ice to my eye. “I WASN’T THINKING STRAIGHT!”
“IT’S OBVIOUS YOU WEREN’T THINKING ESTHER!” My father shouted back. “WHY DID YOU DO IT?!”
“BECAUSE HE DESERVED IT!” I shouted back. “HE JUST TOLD ME THAT HE DID IT! THAT MOTHER FUCKER IS THE REASON WHY CALEB IS ON THE HOSPITAL AND HIS LIFE WITHOUT A FUTURE!”
“What?!” My father questioned. “What did you just say?”
“Lucas did it.” I replied. “He told me. It was never his intention to leave him there, but he did.”
“Did you tell him that Caleb is on a coma?” My father asked.
“Yes Enoch. I did.” I replied.
“He confessed.” My father breathed. “Stay here.”
My father left the room where I was being held. I laid on the cot and stared at the ceiling, what on earth is happening? I sat up and walked over to the door. I opened it and saw my father hugging Mama George, Collin was beside her, and tears were streaming down his face.
I was walking towards them when a hand hold me back. I turned around and saw Blaze with tears in his face. This was not good. Blaze embraced me in a hug and stroke my hair. I still couldn’t process what was happening, and I was more than sure that no one was going to tell me.
“Blaze.” I whispered. “Where is Caleb?”
“Esther.” Blaze whispered.
“Answer my question Blaze.” I demanded.
“I can’t tell you.” Blaze replied. “Your father asked me not to.”
I ripped myself from his embrace and walked towards my father.
“Tell me.” I said as I stood in front of him, Mama George and Collin. “Please tell me.”
“I’m so sorry darling.” Mama George cried as she hugged me.
“Where is he?” I whispered as tears flowed down my cheek.
“He’s in a better place now.” She replied.
