Sofia's Story- Goblet of Fire

Sofia enters Hogwarts in Harry Potter's fourth year, the year of the Triwizard Tournament and the return of Voldemort. She is a member of the Adema line, the oldest and most powerful pure blood family alive. The timing of her entry to Hogwarts is no coincidence. She has a secret that she can tell no one. She is cursed to a life that gives her no free will.

5. The Champions

Red flames leapt from the goblet and sparks shot into the air.  A piece of charred parchment fluttered out.  Professor Dumbledore caught the piece of parchment, as the flames turned blue-white.

“The champion for Durmstrang” he read loudly, “will be Viktor Krum.”

Sofia watched from her seat as cheers and applause filled the hall.  She watched the boy stand up and walk away from his peers to the front of the hall.

The flames from the goblet turned red again as another piece of parchment shot out.  Professor Dumbledore grabbed it and called out to the hall.

“The champion for Beauxbatons is Fleur Delacour!”

A very beautiful girl with silvery blonde hair stood up as the crowd erupted.  Sofia thought that she looked more veela than human.

There was only one champion left to be selected, the Hogwarts champion.  Though she supposed she should be anxious for the decision, Sofia felt herself only slightly more interested in this selection than she was in the selections from the other schools.

As the flames in the goblet turned red again, Sofia leaned forward in her seat a little bit.

“The Hogwarts champion is,” Professor Dumbledore called as he caught the last piece of parchment, “Cedric Diggory.”

The hall, which had been waiting in silent anticipation, exploded into loud cheers as the handsome Hufflepuff rose to his feet.  Sofia clapped halfheartedly, and then stopped.

Something was not right.  She could feel a tingling in the black eagle shaped tattoo on her wrist.  It was a sensation that she had never felt before but she had heard her parents describe it many times.  Something evil was at work.

Red flames once again began to leap from the goblet and the hall turned silent again.  This was not the same excited anticipation silence that had filled the hall moments earlier.  This silent was ominous and confused.

A small piece of parchment shot from the goblet.  Professor Dumbledore caught it as it floated past him.  He looked at it for a moment as if he was having trouble understanding the writing.  After a moment he called out to the hall.

“Harry Potter.”

Sofia’s tattoo seared with the worst pain she had ever felt.
