17. Fun Night

Nani’s POV*

It’s being two weeks since the last time I saw the guys; they were doing some stuff all over Europe. Interviews, concerts, premiers, even some awards. We still called each other, but not every day because of their busy schedule. They arrived yesterday and called right after they got home. We became so close in these past weeks, even when we’ve only known each other for no more than a month and we talked just a little bit, but when we talked, our conversations were from 2 to 3 hours, but in the past two weeks also I made new friends. I got the job in the store and met some really nice people. I also met my neighbor and the closest thing I have for a best friend: Caroline. I met her in the elevator. I was going to work and went out to wait for the elevator when the doors opened she was there. At the instant I saw her, she reminded me of Ariana Grande, she was so beautiful.

“Can I be her please?” I mentally said. People as beautiful as her just hurt your self-esteem. We stood awkwardly until we reached the floor, and we didn’t said anything; while I was on work I saw her again. I talked to her.

“hi, can I help you?” I said while smiling

“Hello. Hey, you live in the same building as me, right?” she asked

“Yeah. Which floor do you live in?”

“Third floor, I think it’s just above you.”

“Oh, really? That is so cool. My name is Najomitt but you can call me Nani.”

“Caroline.” And that’s how we met and became friends. Three days after we met, we were chatting in my apartment, killing time. We got to know each other pretty well. When I asked her if she liked One Direction, she literally murder me with her look

“No, I don’t like that type of music.” She said it like it was something offensive for her

“I like megadeath, dragonforce, metallica, slipknot.” I looked at her with confused face

“I have no idea which bands are those but I do know about metallica,” I told her

“Yes, they are the best. Let me guess; you do like that stupid boy band.” I felt anger build inside of me, she did dare to call “stupid boy band”?

“Ok, let me clear something up, because I like to be honest with the people. First, they are not stupid boy bands. They are 5 talented guys that are doing what they like. Second, just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean you need to make fun of them or be rude. Third, I am a Directioner, and if you mess with them, you are messing with me so try not to do that. If I respect what you like, I would hope the same from you. And fourth, the only one who are able to call them stupid are us,” I told her proudly. It really pissed me off when people disrespect others opinion or likes. I mean, everybody is different. I thought Caroline would be at least a little mad at me for my attitude, but she did the opposite, she laughed. I looked at her like she was crazy

“Don’t look at me like that, I was just teasing but I like your attitude, I like the fact that you defend what you like. We will be very good friends,” she winked at me. I immediately smiled, I liked her too. She was the opposite of what she looked; super girly and beautiful but her taste in music is completely different.

“This is crazy, you know,” I told her

“What’s crazy?” she asked me, taking a sip of her cup of tea. I did the same with my coffee.

“That you like metal. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just that you don’t have that look that most of the people have,” I said, a little embarrassed. I didn’t want her to think I was against that or anything

“Lots of people tell me that, but I guess they’re just stereotyping. I like girly things, but the music is just… I don’t know. I don’t like pop, it’s so repetitive. For me, all the songs sound the same.” She laughed again, and I saw again that, seriously, she looked exactly like Ariana.

“You look exactly like Ariana Grande,” I told her.

“Who is she?” I rolled my eyes ‘oh my god’ I said in my mind

“She is a singer who has the most incredible and powerful voice you ever heard, and she is so beautiful.”

“So are you calling me beautiful?”

“Yes, but I guess you already knew that.”

“Oh yes.” I raised an eyebrow at her. “I am just kidding. Aww, thank you. You’re so beautiful, too.” And that’s how we became literally best friends.

I was just cleaning, doing laundry and all those tedious things that we need to do when you have no mom to do it for you. Then my phone started sounding.

“Pick up your phone. It’s Louis and I want you to pick up the phone NOW!” The annoying ringtone with Louis’ voice came out of my phone, indicating that Louis was calling. All of the guys made their own ringtones, so when they call, I know which person is which.

“Hello Tomlinson,” I salute him. I don’t know why, but I just started calling him by his last name one day, and after that, I just kept doing it.

“Hi love, how are you?” he answered.

“I am good, you know, just cleaning.”

“Again? I can call you 5 times, and 3 of them you are cleaning. You need to stop.” I laughed

“Sorry for liking it things clean, not like you Mr. Messy.”

“Ha-ha. Yeah, very funny. What are you doing tonight?” he asked me.

“Well, I was planning to go to Caro-”

“Nothing? Oh great, then it is perfect to go to the new club, Candem palace,” he interrupted me. I looked at my phone to see he was there.

“Louis, are you in your right mind? I am seventeen years old, remember? I can’t go to a club,” I told him in a ‘duh’ tone.

“Oh don’t worry, you can go inside. We know some people,” Harry said through the phone

“You cannot say no, we haven’t see you in two weeks,” Zayn said

“Aww guys, do you miss me?” I told them, my move suddenly improving. They make me so happy.

“No,” Louis said

“Talk for yourself,” I heard Liam said

“You see? That’s why I like Liam so much. He is sweet, unlike you Louis.”

“Yeah, whatever.” His annoyed tone made me laugh so much.

“Keep laughing love, I will get revenge,” Louis teased again.

“Oh really? How?” I said, raising an eyebrow.

“Well, you will not say no tonight, you will go.” I heard the guys laughing in the background

“How are you so sure?”

“In less than 5 minutes, you’ll find out.” I was so confused at this point but his tone was playful, he had something up for me and I was nervous about it

“What do you mean?” I said at the exact same time as I heard a knock on the door. I went to the door, still holding the phone still in my ear, and when I opened it Niall was there. Nervousness, a little anger and every other feeling I had was replaced for pure happiness and millions of butterflies were dancing in my stomach.

“Niall,” I said, smiling like an idiot. I threw my arms around his neck and hugged him and he put his arm around my waist. It felt so nice, so good, my heart rate increase to an impossible level. Just Niall’s presence made my day better.

“I missed you so much,” he told me. I smiled wider, hearing that was so cute.

“I missed you too.” Shyness took place. “Come in,” I said, breaking the embrace. I put the phone on speaker so I could talk with everyone. “Don’t get me wrong Niall, I really like the fact that you are here, but why?” I told him and he chuckled.

“Louis hasn’t told you yet?” he just responded.

“I was going to, but then you arrived,” Louis said.

“Just tell me,” I demanded. This is getting annoying, and I felt left out of the conversation

“Well, I am here to pick you up, and take you to the club,” Niall told me while looking at the ground

“What?” I said, not understanding anything

“He went there early so you couldn’t say no or make an excuse to not hang out,” Liam had the decency to explain.

“Guys, I would never say no to you. I just always joked about it but I love you guys,” I tell them. They seriously would think I can say no to them? And that’s Louis problem, he knows way to well I would never say no.

“Well, it’s settled then, see you at 8,” Louis said

“Wait, what? 8?!” I shout. “It’s 6:30, are you crazy?”

“Well you need to hurry up then,” Zayn chuckled.

“Very funny Zayn. But I am serious guys, why didn’t you tell me this before? I am not going to be ready by 8.”

“Just get dressed and it’s done,” Liam told me. Guys really don’t understand what, “get dressed” means in a woman vocabulary

“I need to shower, do my makeup, choose the dress, and do my hair. There is no way possible I can get finish by 8, sorry,” I said a little bit annoyed. Why didn’t they tell me this before?

“Just do it, see you at the club love.” And then Louis hung up, not letting me say anything

“I hate you Louis!” I shout at my phone and looked at Niall. He was sitting on the couch and his smile couldn’t be wider; he just started laughing when he saw my annoyed expression. I just remembered something. I couldn’t leave Caroline behind, so I decided to change our plans at the last minute.

“Caroline is coming with us,” I told Niall. He looked at me, more serious.

“I don’t know…”

“If she’s not going, I’m not going either. I changed our plans last minute, I can’t let her behind. She will come with us,” I said dementedly.

“Fine,” he agreed with me. I dialed her number.

“Hey Nani. What’s up?” she tried to imitate an American accent

“Hi Caro,” I called her by her nickname I made for her. “I was thinking, would you mind if we do something else instead of watching movies like complete loners?” She laughed at the last words.

“Well that depends… what do you want to do?”

“It’s not my idea, but I was somehow obligated to do,” I said, looking at Niall who had started laughing again. His laugh was the most relaxing thing for me. ‘focus Nani,’ I told myself

“Then whose idea is it?” she asked, confused.

“That doesn’t matter, would you like to go to the Candem Palace pub?” She didn’t answered me right away so I thought she was thinking about it

“Are you serious? I would love to. But you are still 17 thought.”

“Yeah, don’t worry about that. Other question, usually how long do you take to get ready to go out?” She needed to be ready quick, because if she was like me, then we will be screwed.

“Less than 30 minutes, I am pretty fast.” Perfect answer, hard to believe thought, she looked like she took at least 1 hour to choose her clothes. “Excellent, we need to leave before 8. Niall is going to take us. When you are ready please come to my house, because I would need help.” We both laughed.

“Sure thing, see you then.” And hang up.

“Ok, I’m going to take a shower. Do whatever you want. Eat whatever you want, this is your house,” I used the same statement my mother usually says when someone visit us. I literally run into the shower. When I was done, I dried my hair, and started thinking what I would do about it. Curling it seemed good idea. It wouldn’t take longer because my hair was already curly. I went to my closet and took out every dress I had. I choose the ones which were appropriate for the night. I was between a pale pink and a navy blue, I loved both because they made me feel sexy and made look skinnier. I hear the bell ring. “Niall, can you open it for me? It should be Caroline,” I shout from my room.

Minutes later, I saw her coming through the door. My jaw dropped, because she looked stunning. She was wearing a strapless red dress until just above her knee, her red high heels complete the perfect outfit, and her hair was perfectly straight.

“Girl, you look just stunning. Can I be you, please?” I told her, and meant it.

“Thank you, but I think you are perfect being yourself, it’s not a necessity to be me,” she winked at me

“Aww, that is super cute. Okay, here. I have these two dresses but I am not sure which should I wear,” I told her, looking at the dresses

“Try both of them and then we can decide.”

For no reason I started to get nervous, but just I thought it was because I was going to see the boys again. Oh! I was lied to myself. The person that made so nervous was sitting in my living room. Niall. For me, his opinion was the only that mattered, so after trying my pink dressed and not liking it, I decided to try the navy. I loved that dress but I wasn’t sure if Niall would like it. ‘Why are you thinking so much about Niall? He is just a friend,’ I told myself. The dress it was a little bit tight and short, but not enough to make it seem inappropriate. My favorite part of the dress was the back because it showed my back, and it made me feel sexy. I put my heels on the same color as the dress

“What do you think?” I asked Caroline, turning around so she could see it from every angle.

“I think you look absolutely perfect and beautiful. You just need a little bit of makeup and your hair.”

“Thanks. You do the hair and I do the makeup?” I asked her, and she nodded. After a couple of minutes I heard Niall call us from the living room.

“Girls! You know is 7:40 right?” I thought about rushing a little bit but I refused.

“Niall, you know I am Hispanic, right?” I asked him instead of answering

“Yes,” he responded, and I could literally picture him frowning.

“Do you know what that means?” I asked him again. “That means I am late for everything. Lo mejor se hace esperar.” I laughed at myself, and Caroline started giggling

“Well, I guess that’s right. We are the best so I think we make them wait.” Niall laughed. I laughed as well. I surely didn’t think I was the best, but if Niall said it, I believed then. After about 30 minutes, we were done. I looked at the mirror and couldn’t be happier. My makeup was natural but I put I little bit more of the usual of eyeliner and my eyes looked great. My hair was in half of a ponytail with curls at the ends which made my hair longer.

“I don’t want to be cocky, but I look amazing,” I laughed at myself because I never used that sentence to describe myself.

“Yes you do. Now c’mon lets go, we are late enough.” She grabbed my hand. She had this little smile in her face, like she was expecting something.

“No, we are just 20 minutes late. For me late is when you arrive like, 2 or 3 hours after the time started,” I told her walking out of my room.

When Niall saw us coming out of the room, his eyes widened and he blushed.

“Y- you look beautiful,” he told me while looking at the ground. I smiled, that was the best feeling I had. The whole time I was thinking what Niall would think of my look and knowing that he liked it made me so happy and I felt butterflies dancing in my stomach

“Thank you,” I responded

“Are you ready to go?”

“Yes, I am.” He offers us both of his arms so we could take each; Caroline in the left, me in the right. ‘Such a gentleman’ I thought.

It was very quiet when we were in Niall’s car, and it was getting a little bit awkward, so I decided to talk.

“Guys, do you like music in Spanish? I know you do Niall,” I said looking him, and he chuckled

“I guess you know many things about me.” He raised a brow

“Maybe I do. Do you like it Caro?” I asked her. I know she liked her heavy metal music but who knows?

“Actually, I never heard Spanish music before.” I looked at her with wide eyes

“Never? Really?”

“No, never.” I shake my head

“Girl, I need to show you. You need to listen to it like right now. There is different types of course.” I searched for some music in my phone, and found the perfect one.

“This is one of my favorites and the genre is call salsa. You can say that the translation of the word is sauce but for music,” all of us laughed by my explanation. “the salsa is originally from Cuba, it spread for all the Caribbean islands and almost all Latin America. This song is called Vivir Mi vida by Marc Anthony, one of the most famous singer of salsa.” I played the song and instantly felt the need to dance

“How do you dance to that?” Niall asked me, looking at the road

“Everything is in the hips and follow the music. Just feel the music and move along.” I moved along with the song.

“I can’t do that. Is impossible for me,” Caroline told me but I just laughed.

“Oh c’mon. It’s hard, but not so much.” We kept hearing different genres of Spanish music like bachata from Dominican Republic, and reggaeton from Puerto Rico.

After our little session of music, we finally arrived to the Candem Palace. There was a long line, but like I guessed, we didn’t wait; the security guy saw Niall and instantly let us enter without saying a word.

“I feel important,” I whispered to Caroline

“I know, me too.” We both laughed. Inside, the music was deafening. There were people everywhere dancing and drinking. We followed Niall until we reached a big rounded table in the back in which were sitting the boys, Eleanor and Perrie. I was surprised and excited to see them there. I knew the boys were going but nobody told me the girls were going. Louis was the first one who I greeted.

“Hello love, you look amazing. Wasn’t that was enough time to be ready? Well, you were not on time because is almost 9,” he smirked. I rolled my eyes at him.

“I was ready, thanks to Caroline who helped me, but an hour is not that late you know,” I arched an eyebrow; we looked at each other about 5 seconds before started laughing. We seriously couldn’t be serious.

“I want you to meet Elea-” he was cut off by Eleanor hugging me.

“Nani, oh god, I finally meet you. Louis talks so much about you.” I looked at him, and then back to her.

“He does? What does he said?”

“Oh, that you are like a little sister for him and that’s why he bothers you so much.” The three of us laughed.

“Nani, how are you chica?” Liam greet me.

“Liam sweetheart, I am good and you chico?” I laughed

“Pretty well. Glad that you could make it.” He winked at me. I swear, this boy is so sexy. How he changed so much in less than 3 years?

“Hello Nani. You look great.” Zayn smiled at me; he’s such a sweet boy

“Thank you Zayn. Guys, I missed you so much,” I said to all of them. I saw Perrie coming to greet me. I never loved Perrie, to be honest. There was something about her that I didn’t like her, but I’ve never met her before, so I had to be nice.

“Perrie, I am so glad I made it to meet you,” I put the most honest smile I could make.

“Hello Nani. It’s nice to meet you too. I’ve heard a lot about you,” she smiled. When she took Zayn’s arms, I saw her ring. ‘Beautiful,’ I thought. Zayn looked at her and smiled at each other. They looked so happy that I smiled myself.

“You look beautiful,” somebody whispered in my ear and I jerked away by instinct. I looked behind me and saw it was Harry.

“You scared me.” I laughed “And thank you.” I hugged him. I saw Caroline talking with Niall and I remembered that I didn’t introduced her to the guys.

“Guys, I want you to meet my friend Caroline,” I said loudly so everybody could hear. Everybody said hello to her but Harry stared at her like she was the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen before. Immediately he talked to her, and she just gave him the little attention possible. I giggled at Harry and rolled my eyes. We all sat at the table. Perrie with Zayn, Eleanor with Louis, Harry and Caroline, and Niall, Liam and me all besides one another. ‘Liam is the only one who doesn’t have a partner,’ I thought. Wait, why I was thinking that? Niall and I haven’t got a partner either. That made me feel weird, because I wanted to be Niall’s partner just as Perrie and Zayn were. I shook those feelings away; they made me so confused and at that moment, the only thing I wanted to do it was enjoy the night.

“Here, drink this,” Louis offered me a big cup of what I think was beer

“Sorry, I don’t like beer,” I declined, because it really tasted horrible.

“How do you know? I bet you haven’t even tasted,” Louis started teasing me again. ‘game on,’ I said in my mind

“I actually had. I even got a little drunk before.” All looked at me as if I was crazy.

“Yeah, sure,” Louis told me

“Well, let me tell you, cherry vodka is the best,” I winked at him. He didn’t expect that. I saw surprised in his face but it was replaced fast

“Ok, so do you want some now? I mean, if it’s true that you’ve drank before.”

“Do it. I don’t know if they will give it to me because I am under age, but you can try.” Before I ended my sentence, he stood up and went to the bar and came back with a whole bottle of cherry vodka. He placed it in front of me.

“Drink,” he ordered me. I did as I was told, grabbed a cup filled with the liquid and drank it. It burned in my throat. It’s been so long since the last time, so I wasn’t used to it. Everybody was looking at me.

“What? I told you guys I’ve drank before. It was on a party in Venezuela. We were visiting there and my friends invited me to a party and well, I drank, but nothing crazy,” I told them

“Do you parents know?” Eleanor asked me

“I told them eventually, after like a month or two so they couldn’t tell me anything. Anyways, I ended grounded because I wasn’t supposed to do that.” I rolled my eyes, remembering.

“You weren’t supposed to do it,” Liam told me in a ‘duh’ tone.

“I know,” I shrugged. We forgot about my little conflict with my parents and kept talking with each other. I was going to have fun that night, or that was what I thought.
