8. The Surgery

It was late in the afternoon when I was wheeled to the room where the surgery was to take place. I couldn't talk, sleep or even cry. In fact, I could barely breathe. I lay upon the table, as the doctors surrounded me with shiny metal tools. I closed my eyes, imagining how difficult my life was about to become. I sighed, and thought of George. I knew he was waiting for me, just downstairs and I would see him soon. The nurses handed me a sleeping pill, similar to the one I had taken earlier that week, but this one was immense and looked much more powerful. I took a deep breath, preparing for my new life, and swallowed it. Immediately, I felt the effects of the pill, and sank into a heavy sleep.
