Fire 2

"We can forget all of the bad things and then start new."
"Is that enough for you."
"Do you love me?"
"As long as you do, it's always enough for me."

9. Thomas

"Ready or not here I come." the voice on the intercom made me freeze.

"Wha- what does that mean?" A girl began to sob somewhere on the other side of the bathroom.

"How'd he get in the office?" Grace mumbled to me her eyes wide, you could tell she was in shock, by the way her voice and hands shook. I would be too if I fell on a dead person. On a dead anything.

"He has the keys." Ryan's voice was low and he almost sounded... scared.

"If he got into the office then he has access to the master keys, the keys to every room in the building." Everyone silenced listening for footsteps, or at least I was. Then my mind drifted.

Thomas was a sweet boy. He was hit by a car when he was young and he was to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. His mom was sweet, she always helped in fun raisers and stuff like that, a breast cancer survivor. She'd be crushed, to find out her son was killed in a school shooting. Thomas was a charming boy, and lots of girls really liked him, everyone here saw past his disability, and he even had a few girlfriends. I remember talking to him about one girl he was dating and he told me that he was looking for a spark and he just didn't get one from her. He was really torn about leaving her, but he didn't want to lead her on and things like that. He was a really good singer, they'd ask him to sing the national anthem every home football game we had. He was just a cool guy.

"We have to get out of here. Someone turn the light on." Ryan's voice broke through my thoughts. I stood and flipped the light on. "Gabby open that window." she ran over to a stall, jumped onto the toilet popping open the window. "Grace you have to get up." he held his hands out.

"He... They.... Dead... Blood." she was in shock. Ryan bent down and helped her up. "What are you doing?!" he covered her mouth. Panic flashed in her eyes.

"Sh. I'm not gonna hurt you, I'm getting you out of here." she calmed as he walked her to the stall. "You can't worry about getting toilet water on your clothes, no one's gonna care." he told us. There were about 10 people in here all girls except for Ryan. "Gabby you go out first I'll help Grace climb up." Gabby nodded throwing her leg over the windowsill. Ryan helped Grace on to the toilet and Gabby grabbed her hand helping her up. Gabby disappeared over the sill and then Grace. And this went on until it was just me and Ryan. Then... Footsteps. Ryan looked at me as fear took over my features. "Scarlett..."

"You know you won't make it out of here if you save me." I felt tears sting my eyes.

"You're going." his voice was stern.

"No. I'm. Not."

"Yes! You are you've wasted too much time already."

"Climb with me."

"I can't we'll break the toilet."

"Then go first. Don't argue just go."

"I..." I pressed my lips to his interrupting him. I could taste the saltiness from my tears.

"Go." He nodded and in three quick jumps was at the window. I stretched my hand up to his and he pulled me up as I heard the click of the door.

"Jump." he told me and we jumped at the same time.

sorry about the Thomas thing, but a kid at my school in a wheelchair committed suicide last week and that was kind of the tribute to them.
