Fire 2

"We can forget all of the bad things and then start new."
"Is that enough for you."
"Do you love me?"
"As long as you do, it's always enough for me."

1. Dreams

It happens every night and the same exact thing happens. I'm standing by my brother who is tied up to this chair on a cliff. The same cliff he died on ten years ago. We were surrounded by soldiers, the same ones that killed my brother all those years ago. They were torturing him and his screams rang through the open oceans but died with the waves. The biggest soldier would come up with a huge knife and then Ryan would be sitting in that chair instead of Simon. I couldn't do anything except for watch and try to scream but nothing would come out. And the man would stab him and I'd cry finally making a sound. By then in real life I was screaming at the top of my lungs and Ryan would wake me up and I'd never finish the dream.

"It's okay, I'm here, I'm with you at home in bed." he would reassure me. I'd nod and continue to cry until it's out of my head. Ryan then goes and gets me a glass of water.

Ryan and I have been engaged for a couple months now, and since then we've been living in my parents old house, which brought back a lot of bad memories. Such as Jacob and my parents. It feels haunted when I'm alone.

"What's gonna take your mind off of this bad dream?" he asked.

"What do you have in mind?"

"I can turn on the fire downstairs and we can just lay down there. Or we can play Grand Theft Auto 5."

"You're such a boy."

"So who makes the hot chocolate?"

"You. I need to read this stupid book about death."

"See this is what's wrong. This book is it about war?"

"Tell your teacher that you have a history with war and that you can't read it anymore."

"And when she says no?".

"I'll scream at her for keeping us both awake all night."

"If that doesn't work?"

"It'll work."

We were sat b the fire as I wrapped my arms around his torso. I leaned my head against his shoulder his arms wrapped around me tightly.

"Off the record, I'm not gonna die, not out there."

"Are you so sure about that? I  mean you could even die in training."

"Scar, I can die tomorrow at school."

"You know what I mean. I hate the thought of you dying and I can't even say goodbye." I held back sobs.

"Look, I promise if I get shot and they take me back to a tent or whatever, I'll make sure someone has a cell phone and I can call you. How does that sound?"

"Terrible." I laughed.

"I don't have to leave for 6 months. End of June."

"Why haven't we put the Christmas tree up?" I asked changing the subject, because in my mind 6 months is too soon.

"Because we don't have one."

"Yes we do! There's one in the Garage."

"What about a real Christmas tree. It smells good and all that."

"I'm allergic." I lied.

"No one's allergic to trees."

"Fine, I have this whole thing, where it sickens me to take away a squirrel's home or whatever and so my parents got a fake tree when I was 5 and I love that tree."

"Fine. We'll put it up tomorrow and then we can put our own little ornaments up."

"I got you something you know."

"I got you something too."

"What?" I bit my lip.

"I'm not telling."

"Please?" he shook his head. I kissed his neck. "I'll be your best friend." I giggled running my hands down his naked torso.

"Are you trying to seduce me into telling you your Christmas present?"

"Is it working?" My hands found the waist line of his sweat pants.

"I'll walk around the house naked for a month."

"Urg. Fine then I guess we're not having sex tonight."

"Fine with me."

"You're such a-"

"Bastard." he finished. I looked up at him mouth agape. He looked right back at me. "I know you too well." He then planted a kiss on my forehead and stood up. "I also know that if we stay down here another minute we're gonna end up having great fireplace sex, so I'm gonna go get a condom."  I laughed at his cockiness.

"YOU WISH!" I yelled after him crossing my arms over my chest as he jogged up the steps. Who am I kidding, I thought. Of course we're having fireplace sex, I mean look at him.
