Chapter 2

Opening my eyes I see my reflection. I was wearing a lit blue and white dress. The sleeves bushed up at the top of my arm, then the middle and right above my hand. There was white lace down the middle with a blue flower right in the middle of the neckline.

I was standing there brushing my hair. The door fly open.

“My lady.”

“Oh, my!” I said placing my hand over my chest, “you about scared me to death."

“Oh sister, don’t be so dramatic," says the young man still standing in the door arch. His half pants were a dark blue that matched suite; his lacing, buttons, and belts where gold.

“Why are you here? It’s rude to be in a lady’s room while she’s getting ready,” I said turning back to the wooden mirror.

“I just thought you would like to hear the latest news,” he said

He knew I have a soft spot for gossip. A smile spreads over my lips as I turn to hear the news.

“Tell me my dear brother.” A little evil smile slips across his face.

“As long as I get your pie from dinner?” Father and Mother have cut his eating in half as he’s trying to enter the Queen’s army.

“As long, as the news is good,” I said.

“The town is buzzing with the news that Grey is going to ask someone’s hand in marriage.” For a moment if felt as if mother had tightened my dress to tight and I couldn’t breath.

Grey was a young gentlemen from the other side of town. His family ran the postal service for are area, along with the night watching services. He’s middle class. I remember the night I first meet him. The snow was finally leaving and my family was have yet another party. Sneaking away, I managed to make it outside before getting covered by yet another family. At the age of fourteen the families start looking for a seeker. I told my parents that I wanted to find my own they said they would think about it but usually the father choice.

I was looking back at the party, laughter and lights shown from my house. Turning the cover I slipped on some ice. I could hear footsteps come running over.

“Miss, are you alright?” Looking up I was meet by a set of brow eye that were a bit big for his face.

“Well, thank goodness for such a puffy dress.” I said.

He offered me his hand. He slowly pulled me up.

‘Thank you, kind man.” I said.

He was sill holding my hand. He was just looking at me. I believe he had to be about my age, maybe a year older.

“I’m Marley,.” I said.

“Grey,” he said.

“Well, it’s very nice to meet you,” I smiled.

And in that moment a friendship was started; as well as feelings. Slowly the memory from over two years were now faded as my brother's talking pulled me from it.

“So do you know who it is?” He asked.

“Know who is?” I questioned.

“His lady friend!” My brother said.

“Why would I know?”

“When you were younger you guy were a bit of friends.” He said.

If only he knew the real truth; which would be the reason to my family’s falling. I could never live with myself if I was me who brought my families downing upend us. He wasn’t the most like person in the town. And for now my family doesn’t know that we have been seeing each others or the fact that I’m most likely his lady friend.

It was after dinner and my brother was in the kitchen eating my pie from dinner. I was to be watching for father but my mind was elsewhere.

“Marley?” called a voice from the hall.

“I letter has come for you,” my mothers said.

Felting up my dress I head to the hall. I take the letter and thank my mother.

My one true love,

By now I know just how much I love you. Ever second away kills me. Meet me by the oak tree when the sun is setting.

You’re love, G

I read it over. ‘My one true love’. I read once more before taking my letter up to my room. I lock the door before finding the loss board under my bed. I pull of a wooden box full of letter, photos, and gifts from Grey.

That night an hour before the sun begins to set I head for the old oak. When I show up he’s already waiting.

“My Marley, you’ve come," Hh said smiling at me.

“Anything for you,” I smiled.

He takes my hand and we sit in the grass and watch the sunset. We slowly walk to my house. Everything felt right until we reached my house. Looking at the door I see that it’s partly open. By now all the doors are shut and the shades are drawn. I knew something wasn’t right.

Heading towards the door a hand grabs me. “Don’t,” He says in a low voice, “let me.” I stand back and let him go in first. I couldn’t wait any longer. Flitting up my dress I head inside. Voices come from the sitting-room.

“You were to be gone by now.” I knew that voice it was Grey. A pain twined stomach.

“Where’s the other?” Grey then asked.

“Taken care of, just like you asked,” said a deep voice. This time I didn’t know who the voice belong to.

“Where’s she at?” said a third voice.

“Outside,” Grey said.

“What are you going to tell her?” The deep voice asked.

“We’re following the plan that someone robbed her house,” Grey replied.

At that I new he was behind this. I take a chance and looked in. I can see blood on the floor; I about screamed. I turn to run but I bump into something causing it to fall. All three of them came running in to the hall. Grey ran over and helped me up.

“What are you doing? I told you to wait outside," he said. He doesn’t know I know. I just looked at him, fear, sadness and anger filled me. My eyes burned with tears.

“She knows,” Grey said. Letting go of me.

“You should have just waiting outside, darling.” I couldn’t tell if he was upset because I knew or the face that he really did love me and I knew.

“Take her to the kitchen,” he said. I tried to get away but I couldn’t.

They tossed me on the floor.

“Grey?” I questioned. He didn’t even look at me.

“We have two…” said one of the guys.

“I know.” His voice that flat.

I couldn’t tell what he was thinking or feeling. That scared me. I tried to get up and run but one of the guys tried to stop me making me fall and hitting my head on to the old brick over. I could feel something hot and gooey running down the side of my head. My vision began to go blurry, me heart began to slow.

I could feel someone’s breath on me. “I’m sorry.” Grey said.
