9. The Puma

Tara woke up to hear Gabriel still moaning in pain. He was shaking constantly, and burning

up. Tara went over to him, as she sat down, putting his head in her lap. She stroked his

hair gently, and talked to him in a soothing voice. "Don't you worry, I'm off to find you

help". Gabriel tried desperstly to talk. "No, it's far to dangerous out there alone". Tara

held him close against her chest saying softly "I will come back with help, I promise".

With that Tara made a pillow for Gabriel's head to lie on out of her clothes, put her coat

over him, and headed out of the door to the outside world.

She decided to remain walking in a straight line so she didn't get lost this time. She

strolled alone, shivering as it was so cold, and becuse she was afraid. As she walked on,

she stopped when she heard a bush rustle. She jumped at the sound of a twig cracking. She

called out "is someone there?" A low growling noise came from behind the bush. That is when

Tara noticed two large amber eyes glaring at her from within the bush. A big puma emerged

from behind the bush. It continued to growl with a menacing look in it's eyes. It edged

closer towards Tara, clawing the ground, with it's back arched so it's belly touched the

floor. Tara backed away as it continued to edge closer.

The puma let out a sound like a war cry, and ran at Tara. Tara had no choice but to run for

her life, as she turned on her heals, and ran as fast as she could. No matter how hatd she

tried dodging throgh trees, she just couldn't seem to lose the puma. The puma seemed as if

it was never going to give up the chase. Tara listened csrefully to the pounding of the

puma's paws, whacking the floor as it ran. When the pounding noise stopprd, Tara's

instinctivly ducked, as the Puma soared over the top of her. She double backed and

continued to run away. Soon she began to get very exausted. She was slowing down, and the

puma was begining to gain on her. She saw the cabin up ahead. She only had a little way to

go to get to safety. As she reached the cabin door, she wrenched it open, and just managed

to slam the door shut in the puma's face.
