A Baseball Romance

Baseball. How can one sport bring two people together all by itself? Well it can. It happened to Lily and Justin. Just a country girl with nowhere to go and the captain of the baseball team.

(Lily POV)

I hear the boy come back and sit down on the thing across from me, setting something down, I also heard the crack of a water bottle cap being opened and him taking a drink. Maybe now would be a good time to see if this was really all just a dream.

'Better make this dramatic,' I think to myself. I flutter my eyes open and look through my lashes at the boy. Or Justin as most people know him. I probably ended up looking like an idiot instead of some dramatic movie scene where the damsel awakes to find her rescuer.

"You're awake." I hear him say with a sigh of relief. "I was worried I would have to take you to the hospital for heat stroke or something." I giggle a little.

"So what happened? You look like you've been crying." He really is perfect.

"My mom and I got in a fight and I didn't know where to go so I came here. But I didn't know where I was going until I got here." I try to hide my face but he pushes my hair back and looks me in the eyes.

"What was the fight about?"

"You really wouldn't understand. My mom is weird and honestly its just really complicated."

"I got time, plus I'm an honor student so I think I can understand. Unless you just don't want to tell me." He smirks at me. I shove at his knee.

"I really don't feel like explaining it right now." I roll over and press my face into the couch. Justin puts his arms around my stomach and pulls me onto his lap and starts tickling me. I shriek, laughing and yelling for him to stop.

When he finally does we just sit there for a couple seconds. Justin breaks the silence first.

"Want to watch a movie?"

"Sure, which one?"

"Well how about something other than terrible baseball?"

"Sounds good to me." I laugh, rolling off of his lap and onto my knees on the ground.

"You want something to eat?"

"Sure," I get up and walk with him to the kitchen. I still haven't gotten over how huge his house is, it feels like the kitchen is a mile wide and the refrigerator is gigantic compared to the one at my house. I guess I was standing there in awe because Justin says;

"What?"

"Oh sorry, my house is just tiny compared to your house, I didn't mean to gawk."

"I never thought this place was big, I guess that's because I grew up here though."

"Yeah, I've never really thought of my house as small, it's always been cozy, just right for my family because we would never all be in the same room together."

"Why? Not even to watch a movie? All together I mean."

"We're dysfunctional. I'll explain it to you one day." After that we make popcorn and grab Gatorade out of the fridge and head back to the living room to watch the movie Justin picked out.

He hits play on the DVD player and the beginning commercials began to play across the screen.

"Are you going to tell me what movie you picked out?"

"Nope, it's supposed to be a surprise."

"Well, just so you know, I don't really like surprises all that much." He just smiles and shakes his head.

"Of course you don't." I want to ask him what that's supposed to mean but I don't. He probably wouldn't have explained it to me anyway. No one ever does.

The movie menu screen finally appears only to show a movie I'd never seen before; Mulan.

"Did I make a good choice?" He asks smirking in my direction.

"I've never seen this before.." I trail off as his eyes widen. "What?"

"This is Disney! How have you never seen it before?"

"My mom never let me or my brother watch movies. We were always out cleaning stalls or tack or riding evil little ponies that would try to throw us off and once I was old enough to have real friends people thought I was the crazy horse girl and wanted nothing to do with me so I never got to go to sleepovers to see movies or anything like that." I had never told anyone this before.

"Wow, well I guess we will be watching a lot of movies today."

"We don't have to, I probably should go home and finish working my horses for the day.."
