A Baseball Romance

Baseball. How can one sport bring two people together all by itself? Well it can. It happened to Lily and Justin. Just a country girl with nowhere to go and the captain of the baseball team.

(Lily POV)

I don't know where I'm going until the truck stops in front of Justin's house and I look up to see his Jeep missing from the driveway. I start to cry even harder. I don't know what I was expecting. For it to be like the movies? For him to be my knight in shining armor and take me away from my mother forever and we would run off into the sunset and live happily ever after?

I sit there, not knowing what to do exactly. I can't go home. At least not yet. I can't go to another friends house because I don't really have one. I could go to Starbucks or something, I have money, but I really don't want to. I just want to talk baseball with Justin and sit on the couch in front of the TV and eat good food again.

(Justin POV)

I grab my towel out of my gym bag and wipe the sweat off my face. I had just upped my weight so my arms were burning but it felt good and distracted me from Lily's disappearance this morning. Which still confused me, I thought things were going really well. The baseball was awful of course, it was our team being beat to a pulp tape after tape, but the conversation was good, we agreed on most things, except what tasted good at Starbucks and which kind of ice cream was the best. That's not a reason for leaving with no note or text though, right?

I walk out to my Jeep, nodding at the pretty receptionist (although not nearly as pretty as Lily looked last night) as I walk through the doors. I check my phone for any texts from Lily. There's none, only twenty billion from some stupid team group message the guys set up.

I drive towards my house and see a strange truck out front. Nervously I pull into my driveway and get out, slowly walking up to the truck I realize there's a lifeless body with red hair leaning against the drivers side window and I start to run.

The truck door is unlocked but she's leaning against the door and I don't want her to fall so I run to the passenger side and climb across the seat. Picking her up is going to be awkward, and my arms are dead from my workout but I tried anyway. seat all the way back, one arm under her legs one around her back, up, back, and out of the truck. I use my elbow to close the door and I jog to the open garage door, my gym bag still on my back.

(Lily POV)

I feel someone picking me up and then running with me in their arms. It feels like a dream so I don't open my eyes. The person smells like sweat, their arms slick with it and trembling under my weight but I could feel their muscles through my thin shirt so obviously they shouldn't be struggling with my weight, unless I suddenly gained 100 pounds. Their breathing was even even though it felt like we had been moving forever.

Finally the person, whoever it was, laid me down on a soft cushion, probably a couch. I heard his footsteps walk away from me and up a flight of stairs. I still don't want to open my eyes in case it all really was a dream and I'm still sitting, crying, in my dads truck in front of Justin's empty house.

(Justin POV)

I feel her breathing against my arms so I know she's not dead but who knows how long she was sitting out there,it's pretty warm outside, and her face is streaked with tears so I continue to bring her inside the house and lay her on the couch.

My gym bag is still on my back so I run upstairs to dump it in my room and in the process I realize that I reek and decide to take a super fast shower. The shower was basically the fastest shower I've ever taken and probably the coldest one too, but it was needed because I was at the gym for almost three hours.

Afterward I run downstairs to the kitchen and grab two cold water bottles out of the fridge and head back to the living room where I had stupidly left Lily on the couch. Thankfully she was still there, and still asleep.
