The Girl With Leukaemia

(Inspired by TFIOS) Aisling Rivers has been diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukaemia since she was 8 years old, and up until now, her life hasn't sparked any fun at all. It is a constant drive in and out of hospitals and their hospital beds, a normal day is impossible. Having a life is impossible. Finally, she meets a boy that is her age and she leaves her current situation completely to befriend Jett Nolan.

Jett Nolan is a notorious vandalist and has a buzz for putting up fights. He has been to court the previous two times and he assumed that it would be the same routine for the third time. Attend a court meeting, settle out any fines and then spend hours in a youth detention centre but his punishment this time was different - community service, in a hospital, filled with sick and old people. Not what Jett had in mind... at all.

She was looking for a friend and all he needed was some company but what they didn't know was that they would become so much more.

"Come on! Lets's go!" I said, I didn't shout it or scream it. I just said it. Aisling gave me a baffled look but still sat in her place as if she was debating whether I had gone crazy or just lost my mind. It's the same thing but I can see it in her eyes.

"You're not serious. My parents are going to freak when they find me gone especially my Dad" I shook my head at her and grabbed her hand, my fingers slipped in between her small ones and I held on tight making sure that I gave her support.

"Don't worry, we're not eloping" I gave her a smirk and her cheeks flushed pink. She held onto my hands tightly and jumped off the bed. We both walked towards the door and I opened to look out and make sure that there were no nurses standing outside and once it was clear we slipped out of the room.

"Why are you doing this?" I looked over at her, her eyes filling with excitement, her pulse beating fast for the mystery and the joy tingling in her voice. She knew why I was doing this, she simply didn't want to say it and ruin the things that lay ahead of the journey.

"Come on, I want to show you something" I let go of her hand and grabbed the doors of the hospital entrance open to allow her to get outside before coming out with her. The winter breeze swept over us and I then realised it was going to be cold outside. I looked over at Aisling, who had her arms wrapped around her in attempt to fight off the cold but I knew it wasn't working by the loud chattering of her teeth. I took off my sweater and handed it over to her.

"Here, take it. It's cold and it seems like you need it more than I do" She took it without question and put it over her long gown. I took lead and walked to the back of the hospital entrance which hid the vast open area that you see out of Aisling's window in her room but one thing that was out of sight from the small potrait of the area was the huge willow tree that had a handmade swing which dangled straight on white ropes. It was decorated in yellow glittering fairy lights ahead of the festive christmas time.

"Down there, can you see the Willow Tree" I pointed to the tree that was at least a couple metres away from us.

"It's beautiful" she said dreamingly, her eyes completely enchanted by the tree's beauty. It was the same for me the first time also, it's just a tree I know but for some reason it was different.

"That's what all the girls say, you have nothing better to say?" my arm dropped down to my side and I looked at her annoyed. Her eyes grew wide and her mouth dropped open and the whole expression was unbearable. I bursted out laughing my fist in my mouth trying to reduce the laugh as the laughter continued to pour out.

"Are you serious? You bought other girls here? What the hell is so funny?!" she questioned angrily, her smile had completely disappeared and was replaced with an irritated expression. I stopped laughing as I sensed her jealousy creep in. Her face then turned from shock to annoyed and she turned the other way, opposite from me. Her arms were crossed over one another and she tapped one of her feet on the snow.

"I'm joking, okay but come on I totally got you there" she turned to face me, her annoyed face was clearly going to spend  quite some time on her face but I hoped it would disappear by the time we got to the willow tree. I shook my head at her and grabbed her reluctant hands pulling her along as we approached the tree, by the time we got there Aisling was still annoyed.

"Sit down" I told her as I pulled her down by her wrist gently. She didn't flick my hands off even in her annoyed mood but still obliged to my command, I sat down beside her and my long legs were set on the snow beneath my sneakers which allowed me to push the swing backwards and forwards. I smiled as my eyes skimmed over her short legs that sat just a few inches above the snow.

"The world is quite a diverse place, wouldn't you say?" I asked Aisling, she looked ahead as though she was deep in thought. Each of her hands planted peacefully beside her as she let herself be rocked. The top of her nose began to slowly turn into a soft pink dot and her face was slightly whitening from the cold. "I would rather prefer to live in my own little bubble then roam a big world like this. So many people with chances, opportunities and a proper life and then there's me" I sighed and looked up at the sky. My life is one big mess, one that I am not too certain of how to escape.

"We all live in our own little bubbles. Some have bubbles more noticeble than others, it's the way I percieve things" she said quietly while staring out into the white field. I continued to stare up at the sky, the clouds a little noticeble as I watched them rotate around the world. How is it that people have a chance to do something great with their lives and I just have a way to cause destruction and ruin everything. Me, my vandalising and my dad. My dad always said I would become useless one day, maybe he's even right. I don't see myself standing up on a pedestel showing off my greatest acheivements that is if I have any by the time I actually grow up.

"That does not mean people don't try as long as they don't give up. People dwell in their bubble most of the time than they do in the present but, as long as you know you have something to live for. Life has a weird way of helping you" Aisling explained. Is that what I am doing? I'm I giving up? A cold hand slowly fell on top of my hand and held onto mine tightly. I looked down at our intertwined hands and then looked up at her beautiful face. Her hazel eyes glowing bright in the coldest moment.

"You're not the one to give up and you sure as hell don't look like the type to give up" she said through her smiling yet chattering teeth. I chuckled and held onto her hand just as tight before grabbing onto her waist and bringing her up.

"Come on, I think it's best we get you warm" I whispered into her ear and we walked back to the hospital. Nothing is easy that's for sure but, we're pulling together and we can get there.
