16. Bruce Wayne Makes Dick Greyson-Wayne Angry

And then he jumped after me, reaching for me, afraid to let me fall.

He grabbed me by the back of my shirt and then he shot out a grappling hook and we were soaring through the air towards the building I was on earlier.

He landed and pulled me up, so as to keep me from being strewn across the concrete and my body torn to shreds.

"Batsy?" I questioned breathlessly, having not expected any of this from him.

He glowered at me and walked off, seething to his brooding self.

I ran after him, hair flying all around me in a whirlwind of red and green.

"Batsy! Batsy, wait up!" I called as I ran after him.

He spun around, grabbed my arm and shoved me against the cool, coarse brick wall behind me.

"You truly are a Joker, aren't you?" He hissed to me in my face.

I smirked at that. He was finally realizing this!

"Of course I am! Did you think Daddy and I were lying?"

"I didn't see the resemblance until now." Was all he said.

He walked away from me, releasing my arms from his vice like grip.

"What's THAT supposed to mean?!" I yelled after him.

"You're a Joker. You figure it out, Poison." He snapped.

"It's not like I was going to DIE!" I shrieked.

"THEN WHY DID YOU JUMP?!" He roared, whirling around vengefully.

I shrugged. "It seemed like a good idea at the time, Bruce."

He stiffened and pulled back his hood. "Look, I know you know. I don't care that you know. I know you don't care that I don't care. And I also know that you know that I like you. And I know that you don't know what to think of me."

It was my turn to stiffen.

And his to smirk at me.

"DAD?!" A voice growled behind me.

Wonderful. Bird Boy was here.

"Dick, don't." Bruce said, walking around me, backing me up to his side in concern for my well being.

"She almost killed Barbra!" He shouted. "YOUR GODDAUGHTER!"

I felt something odd stirring in the pit of my stomach. It was like a hurricane, fighting against the walls of my stomach. Refusing to let up. And then, those terrible words escaped from my lips. "I'm sorry, Richard."

He stopped talking and went slack jawed. So did Bruce. They tuned to look at me in confusion.

I was shocked too. I'd never said that before except to Daddy. And I've never meant it to anyone other than him.

What was going on?

Why am I changing?

What is getting a hold of my system?

I don't understand!

And Dick stuttered, "Wha...Wha..T did you say?"

I swallowed a lump out of my throat, trying to breathe properly again.

"I think she said she was sorry..." Bruce said.

"I...I did." I choked out.

"Wow..." Dick said, all memory of his anger with me forgotten, "I hadn't been expecting that. Thanks, I guess?"

"Richard Greyson-Wayne!" Bruce snapped.

"Right.. Errr..."

I slapped him and enjoyed it.

"HEY!" Dick gasped, appalled.

"I almost killed your GIRLFRIEND on PURPOSE and you just ACCEPTED that?!" I screeched at him in annoyance.

"Um.. Yes? You've never apologized to anyone in your life, right? That must have even hard for you to do. And you had to have meant it. You're living in regret now. And I'm sure if Dads got a humongous crush on you, you can't be all that bad. Plus, I'll probably have to deal with him trying to woo you and everything. And I'm sure Barbra will understand... Maybe..."

Bruce snorted disbelievingly at that comment. And I laughed.

"Right, and as soon as Daddy finds out I apologized to someone other than him, he'll let me walk away unscathed. He's the only one that knows how to hurt me for a longer time than anyone, and you think he'll let me walk out of our home breathing. Right. And Harley Quinn will just walk out on my Dad tonight too." I said sarcastically.

Suddenly, they got quiet. Dick was starring at Bruce with a look of concern upon his face.

Bruce looked angry. He pulled his hood up to cover his face and darted off into the night with a sinister glare marring his face.

Uh oh...
