Once, Harry Potter was told that there were three unregistered animagi by his godfather, Sirius Black. But Sirius was wrong... there were four.

6. Chapter 6

James didn't have the next period free, so he left, and I sat there stroking Athena. I considered jumping out of the window and flying around in joy, but people might find a random owl flying in circles a bit strange.

"You're a lucky owl," I sighed, my fingers gently running down Athena's feathers.

James returned to the owlery to tell me that class would be starting soon. He gave me a quick kiss on the cheek, and my heart skipped a beat when he put his arm around me. We had potions with Slytherin, which meant that I would have to see Severus for the first time since he called me a Mudblood. Severus had been my friend when I was a child. We were neighbors, and he discovered that I was a witch. But he had a strange disliking for James, and when I started to hang around with James and his friends, Severus and I drifted apart.

James and I walked into the dungeon, hand in hand. My eyes scanned the room, and I spotted him. Severus, greasy, dark haired and large nosed, was sitting in the front of the class, writing in his book. He was excellent at potions, but was almost as mundane as Peter when it came to charms and spells. James and I sat down at the desk in the very back, and Sirius joined us there.

"James! Where've you been?" he asked with a mischievous glint in his eyes. I knew he knew that we had both been in the owlery thanks to the Marauders Map. I just hoped that he didn't know what we were doing up there. Peter and Remus sat in front of us, and looked back, eager for details. Then, Professor Grimwald, our potions master, called us to attention. We would be concocting a Deflating Draught. Each student pulled their cauldron onto their desk, and found the recipe in our potion book. We would be testing our potions on fake limbs created by Professor Grimwald. I took out my store of ingredients, and Professor Grimwald handed out vials of Flobberworm Mucus, since we had been told we wouldn't need any this year.

As I tried to focus on the lesson, I noticed that Severus kept looking back at me. After my draught was approved by Professor Grimwald, I tried to get out of the classroom as quickly as I could, but Severus intercepted me.

"Can we talk?" he begged.

"Fine. Talk," I replied dryly, with malice evident in my voice.
