5. Back For You

2 months later

           Annabelles P.O.V.

“Lilly would you shut up?!” I yelled at my sister. “I am trying to finish my paper! Its due in an hour!” I couldn’t focus. I had a 20 page paper due in an hour, and I had only written 10 of them. On top of not trying to fail out of college, I was trying to get my lines down. The 1st performance was in two weeks.

I hadn’t been able to focus on anything important since Harry disappeared  after the audition. He hadn’t  responded to a single text, or called back, since the day of the audition.

I had been keeping tabs on him in the news though. Every time I would  hear about him  out with some supermodel , or singer I would get depressed. But I couldn’t stop myself from reading it. Lilly knew something was different. She hadn’t mentioned anything about it, but she was making an effort not to press my buttons, it was like she was walking on glass.

*Ding Dong* the doorbell broke me out of my trance. I had been thinking about Harry again. “Lilly can you get that!?” I yelled down the stairs.

“I got it!” she yelled back. Not 3 seconds later did I hear an ear-splitting scream

“LILLY?!” I yelled, taking the stairs 3 at a time. “WHAT’S WRONG!? WHAT HAPPENED!?” I raced around the corner and skidded to a stop, bracing myself on the kitchen counter. Lilly hadn’t even opened the door yet. She was frozen, pointing at the door. I looked at the door to see what had her paralyzed. HARRY. He had his hands behind his back, and was peering in through the window, squinting at the glare. I had played this moment over and over again in my mind, and each time I was ecstatic, overjoyed to see him. But now, now all I felt was rage. I ran to the door and threw it open.

“Hi,” was all he said. He had a smirk on his face, making his dimples prominent.

“WHAT THE HELL?!” I yelled at him. I grabbed his collar and started to push. I walked him off the porch, down the stairs and around the magnolia tree at the end of the sidewalk in my front yard, so that my sister could not see what was about to go down.

“Wooohhh! What's wrong?” he asked as soon as I let go of the collar of his shirt. “I thought you would be happy to see me.”

“WHY WOULD I BE HAPPY TO SEE THE SHIT-FACED POPSTAR THAT LEFT ME STRANDED IN DOWNTOWN ATLANTA!?” I screamed at him “I texted you and called you. Why did you never respond? Wait, I don’t want to hear your stupid excuse. I have had ‘Back to you’ on repeat on my Ipod! I cried myself to sleep for the next 3 days, wondering what I did wrong!” I paused to take a breath. “I was just starting to have fealings for you. And what do you do? You leave, without a word! What makes you think that it’s ok to just show up on my doorstep 2 months later without notice, and expect everything to be fine! THAT’S WHAT I WANT TO KNOW!” I was out of breath from the rant. He looked at me stunned.

    “I, I, I” He stuttered

“Thats what I thought!” I said and turned around. I felt the tears welding up in my eyes. I am not going to cry! I will not let him know that I care!

“WAIT!” He called as he ran after me. I felt his hand on my shoulder as he spun me around. Before I had a chance to react his lips were on mine. I wanted to melt into him. It felt so right. I could have stayed there forever. Thats when I remembered what he had done to me.

I ripped our faces apart, reared back my hand and slapped him across his face as hard as I could “WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!” I yelled at him, watching him rub his jaw. “SO NOW YOU THINK THAT YOU CAN JUST KISS ME AND EVERYTHING WILL BE OK?!”

“It was worth it.” He smirked to himself

“Kissing you, it was worth the slap.” I looked at him confused. “I haven't stopped thinking about you. I never did.” he continued to explain. “I left for your good. I didn’t want to leave. I knew that you couldn’t handle the pressure of the paparazzi, and being under constant watch. That’s why I left, for you.”

“Then why come back?” I asked, putting my hands on my hips.

“Because I’m selfish! I couldn’t go on knowing that i hurt you. That you hated me. Even if it was for you. I can’t sleep at night! You are all I think about. I even changed the lyrics to Diana to your name on stage a couple of weeks ago! I CAME BACK FOR ME! To end my suffering!”

“I’m not buying it.” was all I said as I turned and walked back inside. Leaving Harry looking gutted.

I walked inside to find Lilly still pointing at the door. “Y Y Y Y YOU!!!!!!!” she said, in a yelling whisper.

“Come on Lilly,” I reached for her arm. She turned around, suddenly unfrozen, to watch Harry drive away. We walked upstairs in silence. I sat back on my bed and stared at my computer, trying to digest what just happend.

All Lilly did was stare at me. I wasn’t sure what all she saw, but I just hoped that she didn’t see the kiss.

*Ding Dong* The doorbell went off again.

“I got it.” Lilly said getting up from her spot on my bed. She had been sitting in that one spot and not moving for so long that I was amazed when she and the bed became two.

“AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!” There was another scream from Lilly.

“I’M COMING!” I called as I got off my bed and headed back down the stairs, expecting to see Harry at the door. Instead I found Liam, cradling a passed out Lilly in his arms. I guess it had just been a bit too much excitement for her in one day.

“What are you doing here?” I crossed my arms at Liam

“Came looking for Harry.” He said, not taking his eyes off my sister.

“You missed him by like 3 minutes.”

“Do you know where he’s going?” He sounded concerned, finally looking up from my sister.

“Nope. He came here, scared my sister. I yelled at him for disappearing then randomly showing up two months later. Then he kissed me, I slapped him, and told him to leave, so he did.”

“Will you help me look for him, I will explain everything to you in the car.” He looked down at my sister again. A look of concern in his eyes.

“Yea, But will you lay her down in her bed first?” I asked, uncrossing my arms and beckoning  him to follow.

“Wow” was all he said the second we walked into Lilly’s room. He laid her down gently, treating her like a fragile rose petal. First her feet, then slowly down to her head. Liam then delicately removed her shoes. He stared at her face, and it seemed for a moment, that their silhouettes were a picture, frozen in time. Shattering the moment, he turned to me.

“Oh!” Liam shouted, surprised, after he turned around an inch from his own face. There was a huge fathead of all the boys on her wall.  “May I ask, how is it that you had no idea who any of us were, when you have a room in your house like this?”

"I live in the Broadway world. I don’t listen to mainstream music. Also, I just don’t come in here much.” I turned to leave. “Let me grab my bag and we can go.”

“Okay,” He pause in front of Lilly’s bed one more time before following me. My room was plain compared to my sister. The only thing on my wall being my practice schedule.

“Where should we start?” Liam asked me as soon as we got in his car

“He turned left, when he pulled out”

“Well, we’ll go that way then.” He cranked the car and sped down the driveway toward the highway.
