-Excerpt-
My fingers gently run over the dark mark situated in the crook of my neck. I wince at the slight pain. As I open my eyes that I didn't know I closed, I look to Leah.
My eyebrows furrow as I realise she isn't looking at me, but rather someone behind me. My head turns immediately to the source holding her attention.
He stands there, only metres from the door, staring at me. He smirks at me before dropping his left eye in a wink and vanishing out the door.
Fear racks through my body as I remember his words.
"You're now mine, Emily."
I turn back to Leah, our expressions the same.
Complete shock and fear.

Chapter 29

Emily's POV.

We pull up out the front of Eleanor and Louis' house. "What are we doing?" I ask Harry looking over at him.

My eyes turn to the road watching a car go past us before looking back at Harry. "Come on."

I frown but still get out of the car, following him to the door. A car pulls to a stop and I look at it as Harry knocks. Wasn't that the car that just drove past us?

Before I can say anything Eleanor opens the door. "Hey I haven't see you in ages!" she says and pulls me into a hug. I take my eyes away from the car and hug her back with a smile.

"Louis, we've got to go!" Harry yells walking into their house.

After a few moments of conversation with Eleanor, Harry and Louis walk back out of the house in deep conversation. I instinctively follow before getting snapped at.

"You can't come with us." Harry says bluntly.

I step back from him. "And I'm not going to just sit around."

"Emily, this is fucking dangerous." He snaps.

"So is fucking life, Harry. And unless-"

"Drop it Emily!" He yells making me cower back.

If I were gutsy enough I'd yell back but I don't want to display our disputes to the public. Instead I turn around walking past Eleanor and into her house. Fuck Harry and his bullshit.

I plop down on the lounge with a huff. "Sorry about that." I say to her, knowing she's there.

She gives an awkward laugh. "Don't worry about it. Some of mine and Lou's arguments get pretty bad. I wouldn't even classify that as an argument, honestly."

"I still feel like shit about it though." I grumble getting up to watch out of the window. Harry and Louis pull away from the curb, only for their parking spot to be replaced by another car. The same car that parked a few houses down? "Eleanor..." I say cautiously watching as two people get out of the car. I turn to her as she walks in.

"What?" She smiles, walking in with two drinks.

My eyes go back to the window, watching what look to be two men reach into the back of the car. "We need to get out of here." I say quickly pushing the curtains shut as they turn towards the house. Before she even asks why, I tell her. "A car followed us here and the people inside are coming towards the fucking house. Have you got a gun?"

Her eyes widen as she places the drinks down. "Louis only has the one, which is the one he always keeps with him." Fuck. "But I have one in the room."

Bitch making me think I'm gonna fucking die. "Let's get it then." We race silently down the hall.

A few knocks echo through the house making us freeze. We then continue into the room and Eleanor gets the gun. The knocking sounds again.

"Come on girls, we know you're in there." A recognizable voice says. The guy from the hall at Greg's house. I take my phone from my hoodie pocket and call Harry.

After a few rings, I start praying as the knocking comes more often as does the voice. "Come on Harry." I whisper to myself as I ring him again. I look up to Eleanor who's holding the gun out to me.

"You know how to use it better than I do." I nod and take it from her hand. I hang up the phone just as the the front door slams open.

"Emily..." his voice trails. "I know you're here somewhere."

Fuck. I rush over the the slightly open window pulling it open further, then opening Eleanor's wardrobe and ushering us both in. I softly close the door as footsteps get closer.

"Stop hiding from me Emily. You know I'll find you." My heart beats erratically in my chest. I look over at El in the darkness praying that they will think we've run. I cover my hand over my mouth to stop my panting. I need to stay calm for both our sakes.

The door creaks open making my heart beat impossibly faster. "They've gone out the fucking window." He begins muttering curse words and leaves the room, his angry voice fading.

I slowly push the door open and climb out, beckoning El to follow me. I point to the window, a signal for her to climb out. I turn away from the window and make sure no one is behind us.

I turn back around and climb out after Eleanor, looking at her with a successful smile.

"Emily, you fucking bitch! Where the fuck are you?! You can't hide from us forever!" The guy from the hall yells out in frustration, obviously figuring out what we've done.

With eyes wide, I grab her arm and run around the house. "Emily?" Eleanor asks from behind me.

"Wait." I whisper back, stopping before going around the other side of the house. I take a quick glance before pulling Eleanor along again.

"I know you're here somewhere Emily!" His voice booms, but sounds closer than before. I think he's following us.

I race over to the car, pulling the door open. Fucking idiot left the car unlocked.

I leave El to get in herself, closing the door silently. I get in the other side, immediately reaching for the keys. I can't say he's too much of an idiot, he's got the keys. "Duck down." I say quickly while pulling my seat back to hot wire the car.

I lean under the wheel pulling out the wires I remember that I need. 'You need to be calm to hot wire a car, Emily. Remember to focus on the car and not everything else.' Derek's voice flows through my head. How the fuck can I be calm when I'm about to fucking die?

One more twist of the wires got the car started. I let out a breath of relief and sit up, mentally back-chatting my brother. A gun is fired and both front windows shatter causing El to scream and curl herself tighter into a ball.

"Emily, get the fuck out of the car now!"

I look over to the voice with a smirk. "You were just outsmarted by two girls. Embarrassing much?" I laugh before speeding off. Another gunshot is fired smashing the back window of the car. "I fucking hate manual cars." I grumble as I finally change to 5th gear.

Speeding around the corner is bad enough, but speeding around the corner while getting bullets shot at you and a phone buzzing in your hoodie is worse. I pull my phone out of my pocket tossing it to Eleanor. "We're fine now. Can you read that message?"

She sits up slowly, her body shaking dramatically. After a few moments she speaks. "I'm not sure if you want to hear it now." Referring to my speeding.

I shake my head, taking the phone from her hand and reading it myself. 'Grandpa passed away last night. Miss you like crazy, call me when you're free. Love you.' I drop my phone and clutch the wheel tightly in my hands.

"Are you okay?" Eleanor asks over the sound of the rumbling engine.

I nod, a small smile coming over my face. "Perfect, couldn't be any better."

"What?" She asks slowly.

I begin to laugh. "The asshole finally fucking died."
