Hope

This story is to enter the Movella Christmas Advent Calander competition
This probably won't win due to some of the topics, but I feel that this is a realistic topic.
But I hope you enjoy this story of hope and Christmas miracles :)

2. 24 December

~~I groggily stretched. Sam and I had fallen asleep in front of the tree last night.
We always wait till a minute past midnight to put our favourite decoration on the tree, and to be rebellious little demons and not follow the fairy tail tradition of doing stuff at 12.
I looked at our favourite bauble. It was a simple, clear, plastic ball.
To us, it signified that we could do anything we wanted. That our lives can be filled with whatever we want them to be filled with. To show that Christmas has a whole new, fresh beginning and feel of love and closeness.
Cause we're sentimental saps.
"Sam" I whispered. He barely flinched. "Sam!" I whispered again, patting his face. His face screwed up, and I smiled.
"No, mommy" he said huskily. I giggled, knowing he was already joking. "I don't wanna go to school. Let me stay at home and bake cookies with you."
"C'mon, cutie-pie. If we don't go now, the shops will be packed."
He groaned.
"Seriously, next year we have to start buying Christmas presents before Christmas Eve."
"You said that last year" I smiled.
He grinned and pressed the heels of his palms into his eyes.
"You go get ready" he then yawned. "I'll get up in a minute."
I rolled my eyes and pushed myself up, jittery with Christmas excitement.
"Robyn?" Sam called just as I went to go out the sitting room door.
"Yeah?"
He rested his arm over his eyes and a dazzling grin emerged.
"You have panda tears."
I frowned and touched my face. Then I laughed.
"Thank you, Sam." And I went to go find some wipes to clean up the mascara from my face.

After I finished getting ready, I grabbed some of Sam's clothes from his closet, and his jacket and shoes from the floor. I jumped down the stairs, two steps at a time. I quickly stepped into the sitting room, and, sure enough, Sam had fallen back into a deep sleep.
I chucked his stuff onto his stomach, and he woke up with a jolt.
"Bye, Sam" I smirked, seeing his sleepy, confused expression.
"Oh, uh, bye, sweetie" he said huskily.
I smiled and walked out the door, clicking it behind me.
