When I wake up I go into the bathroom. I splash my face with water and look at my reflection in the mirror. My black hair in tangled curls from sleep. My blue eyes wanting to close again.
I pull my hair into a bun and brush my teeth. When I'm finished I walk back into my room and find Nick sitting on the bed. "Good morning, Jade." he says and smiles at me.
"Good morning." I say and sit by his ghostly self.
"How did you sleep?" he asks.
"Good. How did you sleep?"
"Ghosts don't sleep."
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I feel so stupid now, I'm sorry."
"It's okay calm down." he says. "Come with me, there is something I need to show you."
"Okay. Let me get dressed real fast."
Nick just stands there for a while not moving. I give him a look and he says, "Right sorry. Um... I'll just wait outside your door."
I laugh as he leaves. For some reason I expect him to open the door but he just walks through it.
I take off my pajamas and put on a pair of skinny jeans, a band t-shirt I go t from a concert, black lace up boots, and my jacket. I open the door and Nick is waiting for me. He motions for me to follow him and I do. Nick leads me outside to the back yard. It's colder than I thought it was. I start to shiver and Nick turns to me and asks, "Are you cold?"
"Yes." I say through chattering teeth.
After I answer his question he disappears into the house and returns with a purple fleece blanket. He drapes it over my shoulders and I give him a questioning look. "What?" he asks.
"You can pick stuff up?"
"Yea I have been practicing. I just have to focus really hard on what I want to pick up. But I can only pick up stuff like blankets and pillows, I can't pick up heavy things like picnic baskets though."
"Oh okay." I say.
He starts to walk into the woods and my voice stops him. "Why are you going into the woods?"
"I told you, there is something I need to show you. Why are you scared? he joked.
"No I'm not scared!" I say. Nick starts walking towards the woods with a smirk on his face and I follow him.
