9. Chapter Eight - Jess

Jess wondered if Whitney was right.

Certainly, she wasn't really proud of her eating habits, and certainly, her family was a little unhinged. Okay, a lot unhinged. But that couldn't stop her from living the rest of her life, right?

Staring at her reflection, she wasn't so sure. She pinched a bit of the slight flab on her midsection. Maybe I am fat. She scrunched up her nose. I should try to lost weight . . .

Her twin sister poked her head in the attic that Jess occupied. "It's time for dinner, Jess." Jessica announced.

Jess's head swiveled to make eye contact with her sister. "I . . . I think I'll skip it tonight."

Jessica's blue eyes went wide to an almost inhuman level. "Are you okay?!"

"Fine, just not hungry." Jess snapped with a glare.

Jessica glared back, but more inquisitive than angry. "You're always hungry. I've never, not once, heard you say that you're not hungry."

"Well, there's always time to change."

"You're not going to try to starve yourself like those image-obsessed models, are you?"

But as Jessica shook her head and disappeared back downstairs, Jess added, "I'm not trying to starve enough to die, at least."

No, she'd just eat once a day for now. Not eating more than once every two weeks would mean concerned parents and a trip to the counselor . . . or, considering her mother used to be a therapist, unofficial therapy.

Her friends and family would not know of her motives.

Not yet, anyway.
