16. Chapter 15

It's been a few hours since I last saw Justin. After I finished showering, he'd tried to get me to talk to him but I decided not to budge. So, he resulted in locking himself in my room until I decided to talk. I was sitting on the couch now, staring blankly at the TV while Camryn played with her toys.

Then my phone started to ring.

I groaned. I still didn't feel like talking to anyone, but once I noticed that it was Greg, my old boss, I quickly picked up. "Hello?" my voice was scratchy due to crying.

"Katrina! So nice to hear your voice again," Greg said quite cheerfully. "How've ya been?"

I furrowed my eyebrows with confusion. "Uh...good, I guess?"

"Oh!" he said. "I bet you don't know why I'm calling right now."

I fought the urge to scream at him. "No...I don't."

"Good, I'll tell ya." Greg started. "I know we had a little...disagreement a while back, and I found out a few days ago that you'd left early because of your daughter. Well, Kat, you should've told me! I would have been more lenient."

I rolled my eyes. Of course Justin told him. "Can you please get to the point, sir?"

"Greg," he corrected. "Anyway, I was just calling to offer you the job again."

I almost choked. Somehow, I knew he was leading up to that, but I didn't think he'd say it. My heart started beating fast--then I remembered my deal with Justin. We'd be jobless together. "You're not kidding?"

"Nope. I believe it was wrong to fire you under such a situation that you were in, and I apologize for that. The company would be very glad to have you back, Katrina."

I jumped up off the couch and Camryn looked up at me. I smiled at her. "Of course! Yes, definitely."

"Great. You start Monday."

I hung up the phone and ran straight for the room. I didn't care if we were mad at each other, I had to tell Justin. I knocked on the door and after a minute or two, he opened up, his eyes red and his hair all over the place. "What?" he said harshly.

I tried to suppress my excitement. "Guess what just happened?"

Justin raised his eyebrows.

I smiled. "Greg called and gave me the job back!"

There was a moment before he rolled his eyes and attempted to shut the door on me. I stopped it with my arm. Justin frowned. "Kat, that's great, but I really don't care. I'm not happy for you."

I frowned. "What?"

He opened the door a little bit. "I don't care. It's your life, not mine. You don't have to tell me everything."

I paused, my mouth hanging open. I let the anger flow through me before I completely spazzed out. "Jerk," I spat. "Don't you know why I'm telling you this?!"

"Don't you understand that I don't care?" he said, looking bored.

I clenched my hand into a fist. "I got my job back. I can finally take care of Camryn properly again, and you don't give two shits about it? What a great father and boyfriend you are."

"Are you saying that I don't care about Camryn?" he asked, his voice becoming dangerously low. I looked him straight in the eye. "Because I do, Kat. Maybe it's just you I don't care about."

That was it. "Then why are you here?!" I shrieked. "Why are you fucking here if you fucking hate me?! Did you just come to hit me again? To pour out your feelings by making me your punching bag again? I'm sick and tired of being your punching bag!"

Justin looked like he had a smart ass remark on the tip of his tongue, but he chose not to say it.

"Just in case you were wondering," I said, my voice ice cold, "I'm telling you because I love you. I love you enough to let go of a stupid argument over a stupid date to tell you that I got my job back."

His expression remained the same. If he did love me, he wasn't showing it. Typical.

"You can leave, now." I told him, turning away. I started downstairs and heard him following.

"Where am I gonna go, Kat?" he asked. "I don't have anywhere else to stay."

"Anywhere but here." I said without looking back. Justin groaned.

"Kat, I have nowhere else to go!"

I whipped my head around to face him. "Find somewhere. I'm done with you."

"What about Camryn? Huh? What's she gonna do when I leave?"

I was about to say something, but it got lost in my mind in my giant tangle of thoughts. Justin stepped down to the step I was on so we were eye level. I looked at him, wanting to cry, but nothing happened. I was all cried out. "Justin," I said quietly. "She'll hate it if you leave, but she's lived three years of her life without you. I'm sure she can handle it."

He frowned.

"Me, on the other hand," I moved my gaze to anywhere but him. "I...I like having you here, most of the time...but if we keep fighting, I can't--I don't think I'll be able to handle it."

"Kat," Justin said, his voice soft. "Everyone fights, you shouldn't be scared of it because of what happened four years ago."

I glared at him. "You weren't me."

"I know I wasn't, but that's way in the past. You can't think of it every time you see me." he took the risk of putting a hand around my waist and pulling me closer. He brought a hand up to my cheek and rested his forehead gently on mine. "You know I would never hurt you again, right?"

I was forced to look at him now. "I want to know that, but you haven't done a very good job of showing it."

He smiled. "I can work on that."

I rolled my eyes and wrapped my arms around his neck. "So, will you be nice?"

"No promises," he said jokingly. "I'll try my hardest, for you baby."

I laughed. "Why are we so dysfunctional?"

Justin shrugged and leaned into kiss me. I moved closer to him and our lips touched for barely a second. We both smiled at the same time, but I lost mine quickly. "Why did you say you didn't care?"

His gaze traveled to my lips then back up to my eyes and he frowned. "I'm a guy, Kat. Usually I don't care about anything. A few minutes ago I was just really pissed."

I nodded. "That makes sense."

Justin kissed me again. "I love you. I hope you know that."

"Only if you keep telling me and stop acting like a little bitch," I smirked. He pretended to gasp, and I laughed. "Just kidding."

Justin gave me another smile and let go of me. I reluctantly accepted the fact that we couldn't stay like that forever, and I brushed the wrinkles out of my shirt. When I glanced over at him, he had his phone out and was rapidly texting someone.

"Shit," he muttered under his breath, then looked up at me. I raised an eyebrow. "I gotta go."

Then, he stuck his phone in his pocket and jogged down the stairs. I preceded to follow him and ask him where he was going. 'Out' was his reply, and I decided not to get mad. "Out where?" I asked.

Justin glared at me. "You don't have to know."

"That makes it sound top secret." I leaned up to kiss him, he smiled, then left.

Since I wanted to know, really bad, where he was going, I decided to follow him. I grabbed Camryn from the living room and told her she was going to play with Greg's kids. She clapped a lot and I ignored her. My whole focus was on Justin.

Thankfully he hadn't left yet, making my plan easier. "Justin," I called out. He looked back. "Do you need a ride?"

Justin shook his head.

I rolled my eyes and motioned for him to come over. "You can't just walk to wherever you're going!"

He jogged over to where I stood with Camryn. He said hi to her quickly then turned his attention to me. "Kat, I'm fine, I swear."

I raised an eyebrow. "Get in the car."

I gave him a warning look. Both he and I knew that we couldn't argue in front of Camryn. He gave me a look of pure hatred and got in the car. This should be interesting.
