2. Chapter Two

I left school and started the ten minute walk home, making sure no students saw me. I was half way home when I started to feel drops of water on my arm. It only took a minute for those drops to become pouring rain. Just my luck. I held my backpack over my head, as if it would keep me from getting wet. After a few minutes of running, I finally made it to the front door of my house, completely soaked. I trudged inside and saw my older sister, Cher, on the couch facing the TV.

"Welcome home," she said when she realized I was there. She looked at me in confusion. "Why are you wet?"

"It's raining," I stated bluntly. 'If you'd get your ass up off the couch and looked outside for once, you'd know that,'  I thought.

"Need me to get you a towel?" she asked me.

"I'm fine." I walked up the stairs to my room, leaving my sister behind. I got to my room, quickly stripping off my soaked clothes. I walked up to my mirror to check my bruises, seeing that they've become a darker shade of purple. I sighed and went to my dresser to find some dry clothes. I grabbed a torn t-shirt and some sweatpants, pulling them on as I climbed into my small bed.

I grabbed my IPod and my ear buds off my bedside table and stuck the buds into my ears. I unlocked my IPod and scrolled through the songs until I found what I was looking for- Autumn Leaves by Ed Sheeran. I started to play it as I stared at my ceiling. I eventually closed my eyes, letting the soft melody lull me to sleep.

******Next Day******

'Here we go again,'  I thought as I pulled my hood over my head, preparing for another horrible day at school. I opened the door and walked into the hallway, being bumped into by jocks and girls with way too much makeup.

After making my way through the crowd of hormone-crazed 18 year-olds, I finally made it to my locker. I twisted the combination lock and opened the locker, hearing a creaking sound as I did so. I grabbed my books and shoved them into my bag, closing my locker after. 'Just make it to class and you'll be fine,' I reminded myself. Unfortunately, I couldn't get to class. I saw Zayn and his friends Ashton and Michael walking towards me. I tried to run away, but Zayn quickly pushed me up against my locker.

"I told you we weren't done, Andrews," he whispered, sending a chill down my spine.

"C-can't we do this s-some other time, Z-Zayn? I c-can't be late," I stuttered, fear taking over my mind.

  "Afraid not, Chelsea."

I gulped and closed my eyes, preparing for the worst. I soon felt Zayn's fist come in contact with my stomach, causing me to whimper in pain. He hit me two more times before I fell to the ground, hearing the bell go off shortly after my face hit the cold surface. I felt sharp kicks to my stomach, looking up to see Michael and Ashton snickering. Tears escaped my eyes and made their way down my cheeks. The kicking stopped and my eyes opened when I heard someone down the hall shout.

"Hey!" That was the first word I heard, the word that caused the kicks to stop. "What do you think you're doing?!" The boy was getting closer to us.

"Hey, Liam," Ashton spoke. "We're, uh, just messin' around."

"Just messing around? You're hurting her!"

"We just, um, we..." Zayn was struggling to come up with an excuse. Not like it's easy to lie about beating the shit out of someone.

"Don't give me some shitty excuse." I looked up to see Liam glaring at the three of them. "Leave her alone before I beat the shit out of you."

I could see Michael glare at me before the three of them walked away, not saying a word. Liam reached out his hand to me and I grabbed it, letting him pull me to my feet.

  "You okay?"

"Yeah, th-thanks." I felt a massive pain in my stomach. 'That'll definitely bruise.'

"Why were they beating you up?" Liam asked me. I could swear I heard a hint of worry in his voice.

"I honestly don't know. They do it all the time." I was acting like it was no big deal.

  "What?!" He was pretty shocked.

"I-It's no big deal," I lied.

  "Have you told anyone?"

"Well we need to tell someone."

"No!" There was no way in Hell I was bringing anyone else into this. Liam and I argued back and forth, me telling him the reasons why we can't tell anyone about what I go through everyday. Eventually, he gave up and agreed to stay quiet.

"Okay, I won't tell anyone. But I can't just let this happen," he sounded like he actually cared about me.

"It's fine. Just act like we never met." I was desperate to keep people out of this whole situation.

"But we did meet. I'm not going to let them hurt you again." A slight smile played on my lips. I just met this boy, and he actually cared about me. Someone else actually cared about me.

  "Thank you. Liam, was it?"

"Yeah, Liam Payne. What's your name?"

"Chelsea Andrews." Liam held out his hand and I slightly shook it.

"Well Chelsea, consider me your new body guard," he smiled.

  "Thank you, Liam."

"I promise I won't let anyone hurt you anymore," he placed his hand on my shoulder, giving it a slight squeeze before walking away.

He cares about me. For once in my fucking life, someone that's not my sister or Alexa actually cares about me. Despite my bruises, I was actually happy I came to school today.
