4. Chapter Four

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. I grabbed it from beside the bed and saw I was getting a call from Alexa. She's been on vacation for a week and she just now calls me? I swiped my finger across the screen to answer the call, holding the phone to my ear shortly after.

"Hey, Chelsea," Alexa's voice rang through the phone.

"Hey," I groggily responded. "Why are you calling me so early?"

"Early?" It's 1:30 in the afternoon." I pulled the phone from my ear and looked at the time on the bright screen. Alexa was right. I guess I was asleep way longer than I thought.

"Were you just now getting up?" She questioned.

"Yeah. It's been a long week," I say thinking about the past few days.

  "Why? What happened?"

"Well, I- I'll tell you on Monday. It's too much much too explain over the phone." She kept trying to convince me to tell her everything that happened, but I wouldn't budge. She eventually gave up and changed the subject, adding about half an hour of random stories to our conversation.

We eventually said our good byes and I put my phone back down on my nightstand. I got up out of bed and stretched my arms, feeling a pinch in my stomach. I walked over to my mirror and lifted my shirt, only to see several new bruises scattered around on my skin. I pulled the shirt the rest of the way over my head and threw it in my hamper. I stripped out of the rest of my clothes and grabbed a new outfit from my dresser, quickly getting dressed.

I walked over to my nightstand, grabbing my phone and shoving it in my pocket. I left my room and walked downstairs to the kitchen. I saw Cher sitting at the table eating cereal and talking on the phone. She looked up and said bye to whoever she was talking to when she noticed me

"Hey," she said when she set her phone down on the table.

"Hey," I responded, grabbing a box  of corn flakes from the cupboard.

  "How was school yesterday?"

"It was fine, nothing interesting really happened," I lied, not wanting Cher poking her nose I my business. I knew she just wanted to help, but sometimes she could be a bit too clingy.

"You sure?" she pressed on as I poured milk into the small bowl of cereal. "You seem a little off."

"I'm fine, Cher. Really." I grabbed my bowl and walked to the table, sitting down across from my sister. We ate our breakfast in awkward silence, her staring at her phone the whole time. I quickly finished eating and walked back to my room, wondering why I decided to go downstairs in the first place.

I checked my phone and set it down after seeing I had no messages. I sighed and sat on my bed, grabbing a book from the nightstand. I flipped it open and started reading. About an hour into reading, I was interrupted by my phone. I set the book down on my pillow and grabbed the phone. I looked at the screen and saw that Liam was calling me. I answered and brought the phone up to my ear.

  "Hey," I spoke.

"Hey. Are you feeling okay?" He asked me.

"Yeah. A little sore but other than that, I'm fine."

"Good," Liam said. "I was worried about you." When I heard him say those words, a slight blush crept  onto my cheeks and even though Liam wasn't with me, I felt like he could see my cheeks turn red.

"Thank you, Liam," I told him. "I'm okay. You don't need to worry."

"Okay, but if you need anything, just call me."

"I will. Bye, Liam. I'll talk to you later."

"Bye, love." And with that, he hung up. I picked my book back up from the pillow and started reading again. It took me a few minutes to realize what had just happened. Did Liam just call me "love"?
