6. I AM THE SQUISHER!

“I don’t know. I haven’t really ever thought about it. All I can really say is I don’t know.”

“Thanks Lye you’re a great big help.” I said.

“Well I guess if I were you, I’d have to think on that a while. You never knew your birth mom, so I guess Danni would be the closest thing you have to a mom. Also, you should probably think about her feelings. If you were her, you would probably want you to call you mom. Wait. What? You know what I mean. How would you feel if you were called mom for like ever and then because of two words, you suddenly can’t be called mom anymore? So you see what I mean? It will take a lot of contemplating. I suggest more coffee, ice cream, scary movies, t-charts, and ME!” he said. I laughed as he squished me in his arms.

“Bleggh!” I shouted, “You’re squishing me!”

“I AM THE SQUISHER!” he screamed.

I couldn’t stop laughing. Now he was tickling me. “Eighlye! I’m going to drop my coffee!”

“All right. I’ll stop. Not for you though, for the coffee.” He was trying his best to be serious.

“Okay,” I said mimicking his tone of voice. I set down my coffee, and walked into the bathroom.

“Your clothes are in the dresser drawers!” I heard Eighlye yell. I walked back out of the bathroom and back to Lye. I pulled his hands out of his lap. He followed my hands, standing up. He looked at me confused. I pushed myself up onto my tippy toes. Then gently, I brushed my lips against his cheek bone.

“Thank you,” I whispered in his ear.

“You're welcome,” he replied, “I’d do anything for you.”

“I’m going to go get dressed now I guess.”

“You do that.” He chuckled. I walked over to the dresser and opened the first drawer I saw. It was literally jam-packed with my clothes.

“Did you bring my whole wardrobe Lye?” I asked.

“Well yeah! How else would you be able to pick out what you want to wear?” he came up behind me as he spoke. I turned to face him.

“Eighlye Carter Woods? What aren’t you telling me?”

“Can we talk about this later?”
“No. Tell me what is going on.”

“Nattaliah, I swear that I will tell you the truth and nothing but the truth, but please let’s just talk about this later.”

“Fine.” I grabbed a pair of dark purple skinny jeans and a plain black t-shirt. I walked into the bathroom and slammed the door. As I got dressed, I thought about what had just happened. I just had an argument with Eighlye. We never fought about anything. It wasn’t even a real fight. And what were we fighting about anyway?

I walked back out of the bathroom. Eighlye was sitting on the couch with his head in his hands.

“I’m sorry,” I said, “I didn’t mean to make you upset. I really didn’t.” my eyes began to water. Why was I crying? What the hell? He noticed me and came running up to me.

“No, no, no. Shh. It’s okay. It’s fine. Please don’t cry. I hate it when you cry.” He picked me up bridal style and carried me to the bed we had slept on. He set me down and climbed in next to me. I laid my head on his chest still crying a little. Seriously. Why was I crying? This was not like me. Most of the time, I never show my emotions.

I finally stopped crying.” Would you like to talk about it now?” he asked.

“Yes. Please. Before I do something stupid again.”

“Well I’ll tell you now, you’re not going to love it. Well I hope you do, but you’re probably not going to.”

“Stop. Just tell me, Eighlye.”

“Well, since you’re 17, you know you can apply for independent living until you’re 18 right? Then you are free to live where ever you like? Well I applied and Danni filled out an application for you to. We were both accepted.”

“Wait. What are you saying? Are we going to live together?”

“Unless you don’t want to live with me, that’s kind of what I was thinking yeah.”

“Ahhh!” I screamed like a girly girl waiting for her designer shoes. Eeeeew. Eighlye looked pleased. “Why wouldn’t I want to live with you?”

“I just thought because of how you are and because I know you said you wanted to marry someone before you moved in and everything. And it’s not going to be easy at first. Aunt Jodie said we can stay here for about a month but then we need to find our own place. So that means we are going to have to get jobs, or at least I am and we need to find a place to live. That’s why I have all of your clothes and stuff.”

“Oh.” I said shocked.

“Are you upset?”

“What? No. Definitely not! Of course I want to live with you, and don’t worry about the marriage thing, it doesn’t really matter. So I guess, we should get jobs and stuff, and go from there.”

“Sounds good to me and I actually thought we could go eat somewhere and then go get a whole bunch of applications, bring them back here and have a fright night. How does that sound?”

“Wonderful!” I hugged him tightly. I actually was not to fond of the moving in without marrying thing though. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. I mean, what if we couldn’t get jobs, or we couldn’t find a home? Then what? I don’t want us to end up in a bad place because we have no money. I love Eighlye, but he doesn’t love me back. I know this for a fact. Well of course he loves me, just in more of a brotherly sisterly way. I loved him in the marry me way. This should be fun.
