Silenced Heart

Luke Hemmings loves the fame. The sound of the girls screaming his name and the flashing lights. His band members see this, so they make a bet. If he can last without the fame, he'll be paid. Luke goes back to school, and he meets a girl who flips his entire world upside down. When the bets over, he has one of the biggest decisions he'll ever have to make: leave her or hold on for as long as he can.

21. Chapter 21

I woke up the next day, Hope curled up on the other side of the couch. I sat up, stretched, and yawned loudly, hoping she'd hear it and wake up.

"I'm up!" I chuckled after watching her dart up off the couch.

"Good. Want some breakfast?" She shook her head.

"No. I'm not hungry right now," she answered. I nodded and went to the kitchen to pour myself a bowl of cereal.

"I'd better get going," she told me, sighing and picking up her things.

"Alright. See you Monday!" I yelled as she shut the door.

Monday morning, and Hope was seated in her chair in Mr. Larkons' class. She was twiddling wih her thumbs.

"Hey there," I greeted, making her jump in her seat.

She laughed and shook her head.

"Sup?" I shrugged and took my seat next to her.

"Not much. You know. The sun." She snickered at my comment.

"The sun?" I nodded, making her roll her eyes.

Mr. Larkons stood up, picking up his dry-erase marker.

"New assignment," he stated in monotone, "no partners for this one. It will be an essay. I want you to write about an obstacle in your life that has changed you and who you are drastically. Keep in mind that I will be the only one who sees these papers."

I started to take notes in my book about the criteria for the paper.

I turned to Hope to find her staring blankly at the teacher at the front of the room, eyes dull.

"These will be due next Wednseday, so you have plenty of time to think. Two pages, size twelve font. I expect these to be great!" He snapped the cap back onto the red marker and placed it back down.

"What are you going to use for your paper?" I asked Hope, bumping her shoulder with mine while we walked through the parking lot.

"Eh, I don't know. Something stupid, I guess." I sighed and pushed her slightly.

"You have to do something awesome! Something that changed your life," I explained in an enthusiastic voice, but she was still sulking.

"Why not something sad?" she queried, looking at me sideways. I shrugged.

"I guess you could, but why not do something happy and exciting?" I told her, trying to lift her upset spirit.

"I'll see what I come up with," she answered, waving to me and walking down the street to the corner.

I had a gig that night at six. It was our last Philadelphia concert before Christmas. I had to be out of here by January. That's when we were leaving for New York.

Ross drove me there, and I hoped out and into the stadium.

"Hey, man!" Niall cheered, bro-hugging me.

"Hey," I said, pulling a smile.

"What's wrong?" I shrugged. The most ironic question someone asks you when you have a straight face.

"Nothing, really. Just tired. That's all." I realized that I was talking like a nine year old boy whole was raised in the suburbs of England.

"Oh. Alright. Kill it out there!" I nodded and started for the dressing room.

"Luke!" Calum cheered, throwing his hands over his head in excitement. I tried my hardest to chuckle believeable, but I came out as a nervous laugh.

"What's wrong, mate?" Michael asked, trying to emphasize mate in a posh English accent.

"Nothing. Tired."

I performed well, I guess. I was on the ball except for a few thoughts racing back and forth through my head.

I kept picturing Hope's face when would tell her that I have to leave. Her smile fading into a grim line, and her cheeks loosing their natural glow.

"Why are you leaving?"

I'd probably just lie, "My parents miss me. They want me back in Aussie. I can't stay forever."

"But why in the middle of the year?"

"Because," I'd say.

psshh. It always is. Sorry everyone. But next chapter I can pinky promise (I think) will be on time.

And I've really been obsessed with Me and My Broken Heart by Rixton. Very catchy.
