4. Chapter 4

When I woke up, I saw that my bedside clock read 8:30 A.M. “Finally up,” Harry asked, causing me to jump slightly. Harry laughed at me, then pulled me in for a hug.

“What are you doing up so early? You used to be impossible to wake before 10 A.M.” I chuckled, remembering having to literally drag him out of bed in the mornings. You used to put up such a fight, and now here you are, wide awake at 8:30 in the morning!”

“Actually, I woke up at 5:30.”

“You what?!?” If I had a drink in my mouth, I would have done an AWESOME spit take. “Why?”

“The boys and I are still adjusting.” I looked at where Zayn used to be sleeping, but even HE was awake. Which, according to both the fandom and the boys, was insane.

“Adjusting? How so? You don’t like being home?” I sat up and turned to face him as he did the same.

“No no, not at all!” He placed his hand on my knee in a comforting gesture. “When we were on the road, the guys and I had to do a LOT of running, so Paul and the rest of the guys had us working out all the time. But it’s not like we HAD a lot of time, so we went to bed late and woke up early. REALLY early. I usually was up around 5 in the morning. So the guys and I are still adjusting to having more sleep.”

My eyes widened at the fact that they had to wake up so early. And how much dedication Harry finally had. He used to just go through the motions. The only thing he was ever really passionate about was music and protecting me. But now he was waking up early, working out, and going to rehearsals. His schedules were packed every day, but he was never happier.

“Wow… That must’ve been brutal,” I mused.

“Oh it was.” He nodded emphatically, but smiled all the same. “But it was definitely worth it. I don’t think the fans would be too pleased if I missed half my cues because I was out of shape.” It was all about the fans for him. He loved what he was doing, but it wasn’t for him. It was for them.

“Oh please,” I playfully shoved his shoulder, “they would’ve loved anything you did. They’re completely dedicated to you.” It was a testament to how ignorant he was to this that he blushed and looked down. I ruffled his hair, which he quickly smoothed and flipped, and laughed at him.

“C’mon,” he said, standing up, “Mom’s making breakfast. I think Niall said something about pancakes and bacon.” That got my attention. I was a sucker for pancakes, though I did prefer sausage over bacon.

“How long do I-”

“BREAKFAST!!!!!!!!!” Louis and Niall came streaming down the hallway, waking up even the dead. Harry shook his head and I laughed.

“I guess you don’t have much time.”

I nodded and hopped off my bed. “I’ll be down in a few, now OUT!” I shoved Harry out the door and locked it behind him.

I walked into my closet and picked out a pair of ripped skinny-jeans, a blue wife beater tank-top, a blue plaid button-up shirt, and blue high-top converse. What? I liked blue…

After I was dressed, I went into my bathroom and brushed out my hair. I had the worst bedhead today, so I pulled my hair into a simple side braid. But my hair still looked awful, so I put on a black snap-back. I had dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep, and no amount of concealer was going to fix it. I put on a couple swipes of mascara and my geek glasses, instead of my contacts. Next I threw on a black dog-tag necklace and was ready to go. When I checked the clock, I noticed that I only took about 5 minutes to get ready.

I raced down the stairs, fearful that the five boys now living at home with me would eat all the food. When I got there, I noticed it was just in time. There were a couple pancakes left along with a couple pieces of bacon. I quickly grabbed the food before anybody else, Niall, could take it, and sat at the counter. That’s when all the talking stopped.

I turned around to look at the guys, my fork halfway to my mouth. “What...?”

“Harry! Your sister doesn’t like us!” Louis shrieked, wiping away fake tears.

Liam rolled his eyes. “Come sit with us, love.”

I looked at the other boys, trying to decide if I was really welcome or not. Zayn was half asleep and texting someone, I assumed it was Perrie;  Niall was shoving as much food in his mouth as he could, I guess he missed home-cooking; Louis was still fake crying; Liam looked expectant, probably waiting for my answer; and Harry was very discretely glaring at Liam, his overprotective nature most likely kicking in when Liam called me ‘love’.

“I don’t want to impose…” I wasn’t getting an overwhelming welcoming feeling, but I didn’t feel unwelcome either.

“Adalaide, if anyone’s imposing, it’s us. We’re in YOUR house. You shouldn’t feel like you’re unwelcome at your own dinner table. C’mon, we won’t bite.” Liam’s smile was friendly and inviting, so I picked up my plate and walked over to the table, sitting between Harry and Niall.

“So what’s on the schedule for you boys today?”

All the boys groaned and Niall even covered his ears.

“What? Have I said something?” I didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes my first day with them.

Harry put his hand on my shoulder. “No schedules today, Addie. No schedules the rest of the break. We just want to relax and have fun.”

“Oh okay.” Understanding dawned on me. The thought of having a planned routine over Christmas break even made me shudder. “Well, y’all have fun,” I said as I deposited my dishes in the dishwasher. “Harry, Angelica, MahKy, and I are going out to catch a film later.”

Harry looked confused for a few seconds before he remembered who they were. “Okay, have fun.”

“Oh and Harry?”

“Don’t ruin the house…” I shook my head in mock disappointment.

“I won’t!” His voice took on a defensive tone and it raised in pitch ever so slightly.

“And you’re on dishes,” I shouted as I ran out the door, grabbing my car keys and phone on my way out.

I was about to get into my car when I realized it was still in the school parking lot… I had walked home to clear my head and didn’t even realize until now that I had completely forgotten my car. I sighed, took off my shirt so I was only in my tank, and started jogging to the school. I made it in about 10 minutes, slipped my shirt back on, and climbed into my car. The drive to Ange’s house was a bit longer, 23 minutes to be exact, but I guess it didn’t really matter.

When I got to the house, I didn’t bother to knock. Ange and I were good enough friends that we just walked into eachothers’ houses.

“Ange,” I called, “I’m here!”

MahKy, Ange’s little sister and my other best friend, came down the stairs shortly after. “She’s not ready yet.” Ky rolled her eyes in exasperation.

“She never is…” I smiled and sat on the couch with Ky.

MahKy was only 17, two years younger than Ange and I, but she was a treasure. She was really mature for her age though, and was usually the one supervising Ange and I, rather than the other way around… Ky worked at the Starbucks downtown, so we all got our drinks and such for a discounted price, which kinda sorta rocked. But she knew how to let loose and have fun with the rest of us, which made her really cool.

“I’m ready, I’m ready!” Angelica came charging down the stairs, but tripped on the last few steps, falling on her bum. Ky and I tried not to laugh, failing miserably. But as soon as we recovered, we helped her up.

“You lot ready to go, yeah?” Same old Ky, getting us moving; always the responsible one.

“Yeah, whose car are we takin’,” I asked as we all filed out the door.

Ange looked at my car, then hopped in the passenger’s seat. Well, I guess that settled that… I hopped into the drivers seat and we all drove down to the theatre, jamming out to the local radio station.

Seeing as how Holmes Chapel wasn’t the largest of towns, we only had to drive a few minutes to the theatre. We all piled out of the car, chose what movie we wanted to watch, bought the tickets, and found our seats.

Man it was good to have a girls’ day. We hadn’t had one in so long…
