A Real World Hunger Games

This is like a real world hunger games, but is a little different. There are no more continents except for North America. A meteorite has destroyed the other 6 continents. North America's people can not thrive or live without the help of food being imported from the other continents, so, North America is broken up into 12 districts. Each district must find a way to make a certain amount of food for the other districts, and each district is assigned their amount. When the people of the capital realize that each district can't support the rest of North America's people, they select 24 people from each district, and each district has it's own game each year. Only two people will survive from the group that has been drawn. This helps keep the population steady. Only 2,ooo people are allowed per district. The games help decrease the number of people. Oh Ya, there is also only a quarter of the world left, just enough land for North America to stay on. They call these games, the Hunger Games.

17. .

I ran and cried and then slowed to a walk. I ran and cried and then slowed to a walk. Again and again I repeated this for what seemed like forever, but was only about 20 minutes.

Giving up, I hunched over and put my arm on a tree for support.

That girl. That might have been even more sad then the first girl I had to sooth to death. When she grabbed my arm and screamed for her parents I just wanted to shrivel up into a little ball. I know the feeling. Even though I had never really known my parents I always just wanted my mom. Especially my mom. For she is the one who holds you in her stomach for 8 months and mothers you until you are ready for adulthood.

I really hoped that that girl's parents had not been watching their child die on TV.  If I was a parent I would never want to see that, and not be able to comfort my child. No matter how much the parents plead for their child to not be in the games, they stand powerless against the capitol.

I still sit there, slumped up against the tree, not wanting to get up. I stare up in the sky and notice the sun lowering. This would have been the time that her parents would've tucked her into bed. How sad.

I kept on sobbing. I did not want to get up, but knowing that Garrett was probably starved, I forced myself too. I ran and ran and ran. Never stopping to let my heart tell me I was pushing it too much. I just simply...ran, and yelled for Derek.

    "Derek! Derek! Deerrrrreeeeekkkkk!" I screamed

A spear flew past me and stuck to a tree nearby. Oh no. Someone is after me.

"Hey little sis." a deep voice said jumping down from a lower branch on a tree.

    My heart rose.

   "Derek!"

I ran to him and he bear hugged me.

"I see you've turned into quite the scavenger. Have you killed anyone yet?"

"It's nice to see you too."

   We both crack up laughing.

"Where have you been all this time. I've circled the forest about 17 times trying to find you!"

"We've been hiding out in a cave."

    "Good thinking."

I stare at him. A huge smile spread across my face. I could not have wished for anyone better to see.

   I clapped my hands together.

"Derek, we should go. I'm betting Garrett is starved by now. I kind of had to leave him back in the cave because he twisted his ankle."

"Ok, then what are we waiting for?" he said casually as if we weren't in a death trap.

He walked over to the tree and yanked out his spear.

"Shall we begin?" he asked bending his arm to wear I could chain mine around it.

   "We shall."
