A Real World Hunger Games

This is like a real world hunger games, but is a little different. There are no more continents except for North America. A meteorite has destroyed the other 6 continents. North America's people can not thrive or live without the help of food being imported from the other continents, so, North America is broken up into 12 districts. Each district must find a way to make a certain amount of food for the other districts, and each district is assigned their amount. When the people of the capital realize that each district can't support the rest of North America's people, they select 24 people from each district, and each district has it's own game each year. Only two people will survive from the group that has been drawn. This helps keep the population steady. Only 2,ooo people are allowed per district. The games help decrease the number of people. Oh Ya, there is also only a quarter of the world left, just enough land for North America to stay on. They call these games, the Hunger Games.

9. .

I woke up the morning of the games, revived. Derek made me go to bed super early last night so I could play hard in the games. I put on my favorite, green-stemmed dress Derek had given me, and tied my hair into two pig tails. I put in the blue ribbon last. Derek was dressed casually, in a long-sleeved plaid shirt and jeans.

We walked side by side up to the town's candy store to meet Garrett. I noticed Garrett immediately. How could you not? He was wearing a bright yellow shirt and bright orange pants. From the distance, it didn't look like Garrett had been crying. That made me relieved. I felt a little less worry fall off my shoulder because now I wouldn't have to drag Garrett along with me during the games like a little girl. At least he was trying to act like a man.

I ran up and hugged him.

"Like my outfit?" He asked sarcastically

"Ya, ummm, about that. What are you wearing?" I asked

"It's to show the other tributes that I'm bright. Grandma made me wear it. Do you think they're smart enough to understand?"

"Sure." I said, trying not to hurt his feelings.

"Alright kids, let's go to the arena and find our spots. It's already 9:30." Derek interrupted

"Also, I heard last night that two other tributes got killed trying to escape the games. Good news for us, that's two less people for us to have to fight." Derek included

It's sad that that's  good  news.

    "Who were they?" Garrett asked

"I'm not sure, I guess we'll find out when we get there."

We get up to the arena and find the district leader. He directed us to the changing rooms and gave us the outfits to put on. When I got mine put on, I hated it instantly.

I looked at myself in the mirror. It shaped my skinny body well. It was more white then grey, but it did have textured grey coming down the sides of it. The suit was warm and insulated, and stretched well. So, as far as comfort ability, I loved it, but seeing me in one of these outfits, was not what I wanted to see.

I stepped out of my changing room to find Garrett and Derek waiting for me. I was surprised with Garrett's outfit. It was the same as mine, as all of them are the same, but the way it shaped him...was not what I expected him to look like in it. It showed that he had a lot more muscle then what he normally wore, which would make sense, considering he always wore baggy clothing. But I thought he was just skin and bones. This made my heart go two different directions. It made my heart go down because even though I wasn't the youngest, I was definitely the puniest. It made my heart go up though, because now that I see he has more muscle, we may have a better chance of surviving.

We all walked up to the bleachers where everyone was gathered, well, minus two. Nobody sat even remotely close to each other, except for the ones that were going to team up.

The district leader began to speak.

"Good morning everybody! Welcome to the 200th Hunger Games! I'm going to go over the rules here, then at 10:00 exactly we are going to take our spots for the games to begin. Ok, so when you guys get in there, you should be next to the person closest in age to you. You will all stand on the given platform until the horn is blown. Then you may do as ever you want. If you decide to start early, then you will suffer the given consequences. You may kill however you want to, but please, no cannibalism. There are plenty of wild animals in there for you to kill. When you get in there, you will notice a large cornucopia in the middle. It's filled with things you may need for survival. I think that about wraps it up! Also, I'm guessing most of you guys have seen the games before on TV, and you know that we have cameras set up around you, so don't interfere with them. Good luck to everyone and let the games begin!"

   I almost throw up.
