A Real World Hunger Games

This is like a real world hunger games, but is a little different. There are no more continents except for North America. A meteorite has destroyed the other 6 continents. North America's people can not thrive or live without the help of food being imported from the other continents, so, North America is broken up into 12 districts. Each district must find a way to make a certain amount of food for the other districts, and each district is assigned their amount. When the people of the capital realize that each district can't support the rest of North America's people, they select 24 people from each district, and each district has it's own game each year. Only two people will survive from the group that has been drawn. This helps keep the population steady. Only 2,ooo people are allowed per district. The games help decrease the number of people. Oh Ya, there is also only a quarter of the world left, just enough land for North America to stay on. They call these games, the Hunger Games.

I don't believe it's fair for a girl my age to have to worry if she's gonna die tomorrow or not. My name is Darian Newman and I'm 12 years old. 200 years ago the world was struck by a meteoroid. Only North America was left. Once the idiots in the capital realized that North America wasn't big enough to grow enough food for the people it held, they created the Hunger Games. If there's not going to be enough food or water to support everyone, then people must be decreased. This is the Hunger Game's purpose. To decline people. They draw 24 people from each district every year to compete in the arena. I personally don't think these horrid games are for population control, I believe they are for the people of the capital to have something for them that's entertaining. It's sick, very sick. Once the 24 people are drawn, or should I say the 24 kids, are drawn, the games are held 2 days later in the middle of each district. The arena is always the same. A big oval covered with forest, and in the center, the only thing that will keep you alive, the cornucopia. These games are for kids 12-18 years old. This year, I qualify to be put into the giant bowl of names. Once they have their two victors of each district, the victors go on to the capital where they will be put into the real arena. Then, they will fight again. Only two kids will win that fight. The kids will then live in the capital with their family.

This year, I actually kind of hope I am drawn from the bowl. I mean, there is nothing else to live for. My parents were both killed by the district's leader. I don't remember much of my parents, since I was only two when they died. My brother said they were great people. My parents were killed for stealing food. They were only trying to get food for my brother and I, but they got caught. Ever since then, my brother took care of me, and when I was old enough, I started to hunt.

Every year my brother and I barely live on the little we can get. He is 18, so this is his last year to be put into the bowl. He is a great person, always making sure I eat enough before he even takes a nibble. We have a little hut in the woods of our district. It's not great, but it will do. My brother's name is Derek Newman. He has short, blonde hair, blue eyes, and is about 6'foot tall. He is very buff and strong. Tomorrow we go to the grand stands to stand for the drawing. Maybe my name will be picked, I will die, and not have to worry about surviving. Then I won't feel like a burden on my brother. Maybe, just maybe, I will get speared in the heart and not have to worry about anything again. Maybe.
