2. Chapter 2

Weeks had passed, and Bree and I had really bonded during our stay, though I had yet to see her.

We were in the Capitol. We, along with 18 others, had been captured in a raid. We had only been in the white room for a couple of days. They had moved us to small cells, mine still being next to Bree's. There were three brick walls and one glass wall with air holes in. There were no windows, and the harsh lights were always on. The only way I could tell how much time had passed was from the changing guards, and the regular meal times.

There was a little, very uncomfortable bed in the cell, and a little corner had been shielded off, so that we could use the toilets in some sort of privacy.

We were brought out to shower every third day. We were brought out one by one, and they had us run on some machines, doing some exercise, and taking some test. Then they showered us. I wasn't even allowed to hold the hose myself. All the workers were wearing protective suits, as if I was carrying some sort of disease, and there were always people with guns pointed straight at me, in case I acted up. I didn't, but I know some poor bloke tried to escape on his way being showered. They shot him on the spot. I know, we heard the bang, and they didn't come back with him.

My cell was at the very end of the room, so I only had Bree to my right, but she told me that there was a boy called Toby in the cell next to hers. We were all from District 13, all under the age of 18. I know that there was a boy further down who was 18, and he seemed to be the oldest of all us. Bree is 12. I know that there's a boy who was even younger than that, but still I can’t help but think that that's a much too young an age to go through something like this.

They still hadn't told us much, but I knew that something big was happening.
